Carolina Trade - Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SGB88</b></div><div>Like I said I was basing on another hawk fans comments.
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4679349
When a Hawks fan in this thread disagreed, I asked for their opinion. I'm here actually trying to figure out what you think, not trying to impose my opinion. If someone says something I disagree with or isn't backed up by objective facts like Garland isn't good defensively, then I'll explain why I think that's wrong and try to point to evidence. But I'm not going to shout that Chicago fans should just be happy that I would even deign to consider letting Garland play for their lowly team.
Incidentally, I'm a big Bedard fan and cheering for Chicago to do well this year. Chicago has had a great contingent of BC-born players in the modern NHL and was my second team for years. Seabrook grew up in my hometown.</div></div>
My bad. I took your other comments the wrong way. It's easy to get lost with the lack of tone/inflection while reading text. Also, that probably sounded more abrasive than I meant it, as well.
Even still, I don't think there is any reason for CHI to consider this. CHI would likely be looking for something in the ballpark of what VAN paid to dump Dickinson, at the very least. Futures are all that matter to CHI right now, and Garland is not a future. Although, KD could make the bet that he can flip him for a decent profit. But, we'd also have to have the roster space available. You'd probably have better luck with a team closer to contention that might be hoping for a bounce back/reclamation project candidate to come to their roster and be a difference maker or fill a role.

Kuzmenko for D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SGB88</b></div><div>Have you heard the tale of trader Jim?</div></div>
No.
But I know the Canucks GM isn’t willing to trade their best players like Kuzy, even though he’s trying his best to follow coach Rick’s teaching style.

what i would have done
You know Gudas was approached by TO, and EDM. He didn't want to sign in Canada, so he signed with Anaheim.
So you wouldn't have been able to sign him because he didn't want to sign.

CANUCKS ALL IN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>How much you want to bet the Habs would claim him in a heartbeat? He was a Kent Hughes client before he become GM, he's francophone, he's not a bad player at all, Habs could use another vet winger, Habs have tons of cap space.......do I need to continue?
They have no incentive to <strong>pay </strong>for players right now while they are rebuilding but getting a guy like that for free? Yeah they'd do it. no questions asked. Pearson and Monahan are both gone and they'll need some bodies.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SGB88</b></div><div>It would never get to, but Montreal 100% claim him because they're smart.
They claim retain 50% trade for a 3rd and thank the Canucks for the free assets. That being said I appreciate Montreal is not trading for him and certainly not at that price with no retention.</div></div>
Alright, I exaggerated the waiver claim part but you've both essentially noted that there is no reason for MTL to pay for rental wingers. I should've been more clear and less satirical but this was my point. Whether he's worth it to the open market or not, MTL wouldn't be the team offering up a draft pick for him.

Swapping problems
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SGB88</b></div><div>I get where you're coming from. If I were the flames I would be looking to rebuild and start competing again in 3-4 years. To do that, you've got to get Kadri and Huberdeau off the books by the time you're ready to compete again. As a Canucks Fan who's watched years of Petey, Hughes and Demko waisted by the horrible cap surrounding them I would do whatever it takes right now to get rid of them before it gets even harder. But the good news is we'll get to see if I'm wrong in 3-4 years.</div></div>
I feel bad for Huberdeau. He really is a gifted player but just has no confidence right now. He was one of my favorite players outside of Calgary before the trade happened. He has the skill he just needs to prove it again like Karlsson did

Cant believe Im saying this.. But no chance this team healthy scratches Myers right now, hes been a beast the last 6 games! I think if we can free up a bit of space with the Garland trade and sign Bear we are set on D.
Id be able to swallow the Roslovic trade purely for the freedom it gives the group next offseason even though I think its a downgrade.

Canucks decline. Savard has just as bad, if not a worse contract than Garland. I’d be hesitant to swap them straight up, definitely not adding a 1st to Garland.

Canucks should have claimed him. But, he probably would have stunk it up here pre-Tocchet. He'd be a solid add but I get why Montreal is happy to have him, especially at that $.

At the moment Kovacevic have a greater value for MTL then that 3rd pick. Mtl have a abondance of D prospect and also over 30 pick in the next 3 draft. Unless mtl get the player they are looking for or a offer then can absolutely not refuse they won’t simply gave him away. I would say that value wise that probably a good offer. Just not what Mtl are looking for right now.

He is nothing fancy, but he can stand is ground against NHLers. He is a good skater and defend well. On a shutdown bottom pairing he would be excellent. He doesn’t have much offense to is game but doesn’t all the ohter thing pretty well. Not sure why Winnipeg didn’t play him. Especially since they aren’t that deep on defense.

I'd rather keep Garland and the 1st. The team is playing well, why mortgage futures to get rid of a player Vancouver doesn't need to get rid of without addressing defensive depth?

Just because you (somehow) post 90 times per day on this site doesn’t mean you’re always right. I’m not sure that the Canucks would do this — they’re giving up the two more offensive players and, also, literally nobody wants Reaves.

3-Team Garland Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Korax</b></div><div>IDK, I just don't think that value wise you need the 2nd from COL in this trade. Mtl help by taking Garland, his value is more negative with 3years thand Armia's.
On the retain side, Monahan and Pearson are really cheap, at the TDL even without retaining, many team can afford their salary.
Mtl As too many undersized player, sure, but I can't imagine this would be Mtl only move of the season, and they are in transition so maybe they'll flip some again.
I do not totally agree with the value for Mtl if you give a 2nd, but if you adjust that I kinda like the idea of ths 3 way transaction.</div></div>
Garland’s value is not more negative than Armia. Garland is actually a good player who is at most 500k overpaid. Armia is an AHL level player who’s 2.5m overpaid, and is also owed 8.6M in real money over this season and next season
