Solidifying
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks33</b></div><div>If you want to retain on Myers further at the deadline your retention spot is only for this year, whereas for Rutta it would be for 2 years.
I don't think the number of teams that
- Would look to add before training camp
- Have a spot open on RD
- Have cap room
- Would add a 33 year old
Is very small, and even then they could just choose another target like Peeke instead.</div></div>
we would trade Rutta at next TDL. If we retain on Myers, then we can't retain on another big contract like Hoffman/Labanc

Best Case Scenario - Does Grier pull it off

He played with barkov and verhaege his whole tenure in Florida and San Jose can replicate that line for him.
He’s a 3rd option at best for any top 6 line</div></div>
yeah I wasn't really arguing the .75 ppg part but yeah, seems unlikely but possible.

I like Ferraro a lot (more than most) so I might not take it, but it's probably fair value. Really close for me.

(DET/MTL) - Lindström, 2025 4th (DET) for Petry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>It is a good pickup for Detroit. Although, I would be hesitant about the second year. The second year, and trade being late in the off season when most cap is spoken for is likely why Detroit got him for basically nothing.
Even if he ends up as a veteran #5 type D, 1.5M-2.5M is what that kind of player costs. Ottawa gave Hamonic 2M.</div></div>
I think he’s good enough for the 2nd pair, though, and at 35 it’s possible, but not that likely that he’ll fall off a cliff in year 2 imo

I would actually like to keep barabanov, but value wise I agree, this is an optimistic but potentially possible return for everyone.

wouldn’t call SJ a one line team. They don’t have any great line and the forward depth is actually pretty solid, just no stars.

I think Detroit wins. Petry at this retention for two years is very good and only a mid-round pick and a not great prospect.

doesn’t make sense to trade a guy w/ positive value for a guy that you have to retain 3 mil on to have positive value, especially when we only have 1 retention spot left.

yeah he's a great 6/7 defensive defenseman with great physicality at times, it's just we have so many 5/6/7 defenseman right now, many of whom are younger than Simek and probably slightly better. His injuries have really made it hard for him, feel bad for the guy. Maybe we can give him to a contender at the tdl.

Rutta has positive value, though. We could trade him right now for a pick and not have to take on a big aav contract.

I just think with the guys from the Karlsson trade there aren't enough roster spots to justify Smith being in the lineup. He does provide physicality that no one else does, which should earn him time at some point.
Yeah, Romanov and Warm in Wichita.

I would say more likely he's buried in the AHL tbh than a mainstay. Thrun is better and DQ likes him. Knyzhov and MacDonald might even be better as well.

I should know this, but even if they start the season in the AHL, they still have to clear waivers?

But I think this is pretty accurate, prior to training camp.</div></div>
I agree he finished the year very strong in SJ and I'd like him too, but I just don't know who you take out. That would mean Lindblom goes down to the AHL (which I'm fine with) but one of Kunin, Zetterlund, or Labanc comes out of the lineup. I think Peterson should have a strong year in the AHL and then we'll bring him at after the TDL and give him middle 6 minutes.
yeah hope Bystedt stays in NA too, just not sure what's going on now.
