Semi-reasonable prediction to replace Barbashev

Maybe he can, we shall see, but it's no given. And I'm not against acquiring Johnson. I'm just against overpaying by two assets for him.

It makes sense, although I would hate to see him go, as he’s probably the best all-around forward on the team. Doubtful Buchnevich is super happy with what has transpired - I’m sure he was expecting contention. As you mentioned, no matter what happens, it doesn’t seem likely that he signs 4-5 more years at 30 with STL in a few years.

I agree but id rather move faulk for this. trading parayko with no real replacement would be a very unwise thing to do imo.

I'd do that probably. It would be tough to stay cap compliant next year but Parayko is a guy you make room for.

Honestly, if I'm the Pens I would give you Blueger and a 2nd, plus a prospect (probably not Pickering, maybe Hallander?) If it's Blueger and a first then no prospect. Also, I don't think we need Bortuzzo.

Price is a tad high TBH, Kapanen although he doesn't have much value, there is still a bit of potential there that a rebuilding team could take a flyer on him and he only has 1 year left after this year, I don't believe it's worth a 2nd to me

It matters not, because we're going to win the 2nd pick in the lottery. So we'll just take Fantilli. :cool

And I'm sorry, did a Leafs fan just say "they'll continue being a mediocre team for the foreseeable future"? Yikes.</div></div>
Well they have a bad defense locked in for term, bad goaltending locked in for term, are losing 1 or 2 of their top 6 forwards, probably their best non-top 6 forward, they don't have internal options to reasonably replace them and most of the cap space created is going to new deals already in place. Is there any reasonable expectation this team is going to be better next season than this season which they are going to miss the playoffs in? Nope. You can cope all you want about it but thats the fair outlook for the Blues.

Why are the Blues adding salary, adding a contract slot, and taking back a much worse player for a puck that’s most likely 60-64 overall in a draft 2 and a half years away?

As nice as it would be to have ROR up the middle I just don't see this deal getting done. BG has been unwilling to part with his 1st round picks for rentals, plus to a division rival....Personally I don't think the Wild are ROR away from a cup run, but it would be nice to have him even though I think Eriksson Ek is our version of ROR.

Give them the right partners and this team has an entirely different season. Krug was so-so his first season here and decent enough last season. Dude is probably D+ this season. Leddy is just all wrong for Colt, all wrong for top matchups, all wrong for PK. Give those RDs a couple of J Bo's and it's a whole other outlook.

Over his length with the Blues, he’s been pretty reliable defensively. I know he’s not getting the majority of the shutdown minutes like Parayko, but he’s been a very good player for us and I certainly don’t see him as a guy who needs replaced. I think both him and Parayko could really benefit from having a better partner. But another issue is they’re stuck in a 1A/1B situation since Pietrangelo left

I would sell ROR, VT91, Barbie, Accarri and Mikkola. If someone wants Leivo, Greiss or Pitlick move them too. Retain on 3 of those contracts and I feel Army could set up this franchise for success for many years to come.</div></div>
Just trading UFAs and 4th liners isn't enough. One of Krug or Leddy has to go. Both is better.

Since everyone thinks CAR needs a 2C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>"misfit toys"
It's not fantastic value and it's way less than I would have offered at the beginning of the season. However, ROR is out for the next 3 weeks still minimum. He's not having a great season to begin with. A former 1st round pick (admittedly, one who has struggled greatly with health problems), a 2nd that is basically a late 1st, and a 3rd that is basically a late 2nd doesn't seem awful to me like you suggest.</div></div>
Nah, it's <strong>brutal</strong>. The 2nd is in 24, Suzuki can barely stay in one piece and hasn't progressed when he does so the fact that he was taken 28th OA 3 1/2 years ago means exactly nothing and Fensore is one of the smallest midget Dmen in history. And as always, retention ain't free... funny how folks constantly gloss over that part. This is the type of offer that makes sure Carolina calls don;t get answered in the future.

If we manage to obtain 2 other 2023 1sts by trading ROR and VT, I would love to take Reinbacher with one of the later 2 picks and an impact forward with the highest ranked pick.

The top 10 worst defensive results among forwards
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>STLBlues17</b></div><div>I think pretty much all of the actual worst defensive forwards are superstars. Some combo of Kane, Ovechkin, Wheeler, Tarasenko, Connor, Kessel, Kucherov, Laine. I’d also throw Ivan Barbashev in there even if he’s been better this year.</div></div>
Panarin is absolutely awful defensively. I’d throw him into that list as well.
