Either way hes under the Leafs NHL control for 5 years.</div></div>

Seems in the realm of possibilities not sure if we get him for 7 at that price but I would imagine the scale would be 6-7m for 5-6yrs as most likely. Certainly not an unfair contract.

Well that would be a OK record in the "original six."

Maple Leafs Reasonable Offseason - Armchair GM series
Leafs wouldn’t sign bozie for 5.3millon. They probably will try since the centre depth is in question as the young centres they have haven’t proved anything yet. Also green for 6 millon? They need a RHD who is good a Defensive ability’s not offensive minded.

Maple Leafs Reasonable Offseason - Armchair GM series
Not sure why the Leafs would trade McBackup for nothing. Sparks and Pickard are not sure things. Moore didn't play much late in the season even at # 4, he won't be back. Why does Floirda give a player for basically meaningless rights? And what's the benefit for JVR? And what Logan above said.

Realistic Leafs 2019-20 (venting)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SirCharles</b></div><div>losing his mind because people think William Nylander will get approx. 6 mil per season...
here is where it started
<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/133186&post_id=444015">https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/133186&post_id=444015</a></div></div>
Oh ok got it.
Well <a href="/users/Britishbulldog" target="_blank">@Britishbulldog</a> , I think looking at the right comparables, is the way to go.
Nylander:
Ehlers, Pastrnak, Forsberg, Huberdeau, Drouin, etc.
This is more or less his range whether you agree with it or not.
Marner:
Identical to Nylander's pretty much. Maybe slightly higher fi he ahs another big year next year.
Matthews:
Draisaitl, Eichel, McDavid all comparables.
Obviously that is a big variance. He won't get McDavid money but he'll get more than Draisaitl money. Eichel pretty much set the contract up for Matthews.
Contracts have nothing to do with what you feel somebody is worth. A lot more politics goes into it than you think. For some players you simply negotiate the term but the cap hit is there whether its valid or not. Eichel is not worth 10M a year but telling your star player what's he's actually worth is a slippery slope.
Matthews @ ~10
Nylander @ ~6.5
Marner @ ~6.5
Are all very plausible.

Maple Leafs D-Shakeup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SirCharles</b></div><div>good lord you can't make that trade. Scheifele is a great Bargain and the jets signed him after his first good season and lucked out, he is also a top line center, Nylander is not you can't compare the two.
So with your logic Ryan Ellis at 2.5 mil per year, did we over pay Reilly??? with your logic Top 4 Dmen are worth 2.5 mil????
Crosby make 8.7 million
where would that put Eichel???
where will Matthews land?? 8.7... he will be 10+ all day long
players get paid dollar amounts based on what comparable players get in regards to Cap %
which means that if the cap goes up the player will likely get a higher dollar amount even though its the same or less Cap %
Crosby got paid 14.5% in 2012 which equaled 8.7 mil
Malkin got paid 14.77% in 2013 which equaled 9.5 mil
Eichel got paid 13.3% in 2017 which equaled 10 mil
Crosby actually was paid more then Eichel based on Cap %
If I were to find comparable for Nylander and what cap % they were paid I would look at
Hoffman 7.11% 5.2mil
Eberle 10% 6 mil
Huberdeau 8.08% 5.9mil
So, Willy should likely land around 7%-8%. Considering the Cap is likely to go up to 80 million this offseason and you can bet his agent will not sign before that which means based off a 80 mil Cap Willy would get 5.6-6.4 million per season. Granted, this is a small sample size but this is the way it works.
Somebody better like this ****.... Math Hurts my Brain!</div></div>

Maple Leafs D-Shakeup
Nylander has shown way more promise in his first 3 seasons than Kadri did over his first 6 before signing his most recent deal. His career was headed in the wrong direction, suspended by the team, no consistency...the Leafs were actually taking a sizeable gamble on him when they signed him for 6yrs but he's turned around and has way-outplayed his current contract. So can't compare the two players in the least.
I think there's a decent chance he does a bridge deal...but that number will likely be at least 5m

For Columbus I’d love to see what Filppula could do as our third line center with his connection to Jarmo he’d be easy to convince to come. My guess is 2.5 for one year. Depending on the goalie situation I’d go after Ward for 1 year at 2.5-3

I'd love to see JT in LaLaLand but there's no chance we can afford him. I'm thinking we might take shots at Carlson, Kane or JVR (given they all hit the open market), all three guys I can see at 4-7 years at 6-8 mill about.

Claesson4Norris Trade Proposal (TOR Perspective)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SirCharles</b></div><div>HaHa I'm very relaxed! Again, I don't see how I gave you the impression of being emotional... Not sure what I can do to convey how I'm feeling, maybe emoji's ? :rockon Yea, I seen him a couple times earlier in the season and you could tell he was a bit green but talented and real fast. He seems to play with more poise now and seems not to second guess himself. He stands out. That said I think he needs to get stronger and have a big summer. I actually would expect to see him called up for maybe a game or two next season, if all goes well, but I guess that'll depend on what the Leafs do to address their woes in the off season. Even though the Leafs had a good season the D-group looked like it had holes in 70% of the games... They can't break the cycle down low and are not strong enough to fight off forecheckers to win the possession battles. God only knows why or when it became cool to try to clear the puck through the middle of the ice... maybe because they are too weak to force it out on the boards... In anycase they need a couple of guys that can be a bit tougher.
All my time in hockey we were always taught when defending to use our body on the opposition to separate man from puck... All the leafs beside Reilly, Hainsey and Polak jab at the puck... I suspect even though fans don't like Polak that's way Babcock does. If they jab at the puck and miss they are screwed position wise. Hense, why Gardiner gets beat so often. I'm not saying you need to destroy players with big hits, just get in their way and slow them down, stay between them and the net. The Leafs need more of that. Hjalmarsson, Boumeester, McNabb either one of these guys would make a huge difference. May have an effect like Hainsey does for Reilly, Everything seems much more stable when he is on the ice.</div></div>
Honestly, I am not the biggest Babcock Fan. I mean, I know he has is awesome CV but he seems extremely stubborn and throughout the season, he'll pick up favourites that he'll go to, night in and night out, regardless of how well they're playing (usually grizzled vets). Can't see him trusting and playing a 1999 Defensemen on the backend for at least another maybe 2 / probably 3 years regardless how good he is in the Jungle.

33 points for a defenseman under the age of 25 is impressive. Combined with being in the top 4 consistently and in important roles, he's due for more than that.
