Looking towards an Igor-less future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Coachchippy</b></div><div>Maybe but it's factual</div></div>
Except for the big, glaring detail that when you demand a trade, you don't get to decide who you are traded to. Rangers would still have to be the highest bid to get him.
Why leave a team with serious cup ability for an extended window to go to NYR who is further away and has a lesser prospect system to keep the window open?

Besides, I don’t see Suter waiving his NMC to a rebuilding team like the Hawks, and with the way Jim Nill talks about Suter, for some dumb reason he probably values him higher than Murphy.</div></div>
Hawks not trading Murphy for any proposal that includes Suter.

Looking at them
Come on, that’s way too much for Tanev. Hanifin in your AGM is getting traded for a lot less.
If the Stars are to be interested in Tanev come deadline time (they should be), a 1st might be on the table. If so you’re retaining 50%, and paying another team a low pick to retain more money, close to the 25% mark.

The Stars Align
Solid forward group and great goaltending but that defense looks patchy, if Harley and Lundkvist take big steps this season they'll be fine but if not it looks like a defense that needs at least one upgrade in the top 4.

Opening Night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mvp13</b></div><div>I don't think the Bear signing is really needed. Hanley is "good enough" until Hakanpaa gets better. This would only complicate things for his eventual return. Let Nils play 2nd pair minutes in his absence to hopefully get him going.
Hopefully they can shove Stankoven somewhere as well early on in the season, in which case Marchment would need to play on the 4th line, unfortunately</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>I don’t disagree with any of this. Problem is if you stick Marchment on the fourth line that line is gonna get skated on badly. Duchene is also EXACTLY the type of player that Marchment needs on his line. I think being patient with Stank and Bourque makes a lot of sense (and I’m usually the opposite). I see Bear as a better right handed version of Hanley. Either are honestly upgrades on Jani in every possibly way other than size (which doesn’t matter if you can’t get to where your size is needed)</div></div>
Bear is out until Januray, so there is a lot of runway to figure all that out - although I think his contract will fall in the $3 million range (assuming you went as low as you did thinking proration?).
Even without Bear, I see the Stars being President Trophy candidates. Arguably the best top 9 in the NHL (if Johnston doesn't regress, I am not sure it much of an arguement), a 4th line thhat looks more like a 3rd line, and a more than functional blueline and in Oettinger, one of the top 5 tenders in the NHL.
The sheer fire power this team has offsets any defensive questions some may have. They are gonna score..... and a lot.
Bear is a pretty thought, but not sure he is remotely necessary.
Signed.... a Leafs fan

Retaining on Petry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan1234</b></div><div>😂 at Faksa being a solid player. Maybe 4-5 years ago. He’s absolutely the worst player in this trade and Petry is absolutely the best player in this trade. And while Petry at 6.25 million is overpaid, Petry at 4.5 million is definitely not, much less a cap dump 😂</div></div>
Agree to disagree. Faksa has fallen off a bit but still produces, and Petry is going to be 36 this year. You're still talking about trading two guys arguably in their prime for someone who might only have 1-2 years left in the league. And Petry brings offense which is not what Dallas needs on their back end right now.

Lol
Oh I didn't realize dadonov just got signed yeah that won't happen then, well I'll throw in Marchmont instead maybe 2 thirds because Dallas doesn't have much draft capital
I know hannifin wants to move to an American team but no way he ends up in Boston so Dallas looked like an option.

I would disagree bc guys like Gavrikov, Chiarot, Savard, etc get more year after year at TDL and they’re largely worse and older and are more expensive. A full year of Pesce should get a first and a high prospect imo. I’m def biased but historical comps..

I don't think Don is actually serious about acquiring EK for quite a few reasons... I think he is either
A. Driving the price up on Pittsburg
B. Using this as a smokescreen to deflect from other negotiations

That’s not much to give up from stars side. Pretty much a first to get pesce retained? I’d think more futures would need to be included in that 3 way from Dallas.

Ottawa would take back those cap if they’re getting a very valuable player on an ELC. But they’re not taking Marchment and Faksa just to get a late 1st

Competing More V2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>Last offseason a second is what I was figuring it would take. I think a lot of his issues have been system, usage, and line mates. He’s a big defensive center which does have value in the league. And he’s shown that if played with the right wingers he can be useful offensively. He’s over paid but still a valuable player imo. I’d like to see him in Buffalo. Or if there’s a way to keep him and Domi I’d be fine with him staying in Dallas</div></div>
Buffalo could use a guy like him for sure. I would like him in Detroit for his faceoffs and PK. I think he's like a mill over paid but we have the cap.
