2022 Rangers and the possible Cap Hell

Hes NY born and bred, he may not be the mouthpiece of the team, leading them out on the ice, but he has bled blue since his first breathe and Im sure wants this team to win. So its possible he takes the discount.

Big Trade with TBL
Forget the value for Tampa part. It would be impossible to buyout Smith since no RFAs went to arbitration for the Lightning.

a young 20 year old defenseman who's metrics tanked relative to how he was used in Chicago once he was given more responsibility with minimal offensive upside. It isnt so much that he isnt worth Strome it's the fact that there are two first rounders AND DeAngelo in it too and you said that it didnt get Jokiharju

Cap dump comes at ya FAST
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheBeardOfBurns</b></div><div>You don't need to give up nearly as much in the NYR trade</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sothpaw1850</b></div><div>As a Ranger fan I would take the trade even without the 2 picks. You guys definitely get the better players in that trade but we need the cap space. It’s a win-win for both teams</div></div>
I would always rather overpay a little on here. I originally had just the 3rd and not the 5th. And then I felt like I might as well add at late-ish rounder in as the cherry on the top. I updated to just a 5th, no 3rd. I'd rather people say that's a little bit of an overpayment instead of making your trade request seem like your the biggest moron on this site.

Who goes Need to clear 5 million and open 2 spots
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shady58</b></div><div>The team is projected to have $27mil+ in cap space next season with no real "need to" RFA's/UFA's to qualify/re-sign & $56mil+ the following season. Buying out Smith , dealing Namestnikov and/or Strome this season & giving Kreider (who has a skill set they can't replace internally or externally) $7mil for 7 yrs, starting next season, isn't going to handicap the team that much. With potentially 8 or more players on entry level deals in the lineup this year, plus more next year & 16 draft picks for the next 2 drafts, they should have plenty of cap space & assets to continue to add to the roster as necessary.</div></div>
Watching what Gorton has been doing the last two years leads me to believe he has no intention of paying a 29 year old Kreider $7m for 7 years. Nothing against Kreider, I like him and would love to keep him, but being realistic about what Gorton is doing tells me he will be traded, before this season OR at the trade deadline.

Buy outs are more expensive than eating 50% salary for two years because they stay on the book for 4 years. They still have to pay Girardi for 4 more years. If they buy out Shatty, the cap hit in year 2 is over $6 million, so no way they do that. He is the most tradeable too. If they buy out anyone, it will be Smith. I personally would look to see what I could get for Kreider because let's face facts, there is no way they will pay him anywhere near what Boston gave Hayes, and that's what Kreider will want. If they can get a 1st round pick, and a good prospect, then I say pull the trigger. Moving him and buying out Smith solves all the cap issues, even with paying Trouba $7.5/year. Not an ideal thing, but better than costly buy outs or trading young kids in my opinion.

Well if starting with players some teams will want Kreider, Strome and Namestnikov are your best options.
However if you want to offload some of your scrubs then you gotta pay up. Moving Shatty, Staal or Smith aren't going to be cheap as they all have a couple of years left and cap space is scarce in many teams.

Yes... another 3 way EK65 trade
Just want to make sure I am adding this up right:
The Rangers would receive:
Callahan
Raddysh
Volkov
2nd (Ottawa)
and give up:
2nd (Tampa's)
3rd
Ryan Spooner
Raddysh and Volkov are 2nd round talents until they prove otherwise. Your also giving the Rangers more of what they already have (possible middle 6 wingers). In theory, the Rangers could draft these two players with Tampa's 2nd rounder and their own 3rd...so there's very little incentive here. You'd have to change the prospect(s), or lower the asking price.
Ryan Spooner is going to have a larger role with the Rangers than he did with Boston (evident from last season). If he isn't moved before the end of the off season, he will easily fetch a 2nd at the deadline this year on his own, so no need to spend a 3rd on top of this to get the 2nd from Ottawa.
So when you do the math, the Rangers could in theory get what they would receive in this deal on their own....so where is the Rangers incentive to take Callahan?
PS...I don't think that's enough to get EK either, and Ottawa would be dumb imo to ruin their bargaining power by including Ryan in the deal (Tampa couldn't afford it anyway).
