There's already been some small signs from WSH insiders over the year, sounds like Gibson may try for a team with a clearer path to the NHL, as opposed to battling Clay Stevenson to be the starter 5 years down the line when Kuemper's gone or garbage.

Kulikov isn't great but knowing NHL GMs, he'd still fetch a low 3rd. And a mid-to-low 2nd + a player that probably won't have a large impact + a good young player in Ruzicka isn't quite the value the Ducks will want for Henrique + 50% retention. It <em>should</em> start with a (low) 1st.</div></div>
Plus the fact the Ducks would be hesitant to trade to a Division rival.

No need to retain on a cap dump. We're perfectly willing to take Zaitsev at fill load with the later of your two 2024 seconds in return for our 2024 seventh.
Since the Senators are already retaining on Matt Murray this season (and next), they can only retain on two more transactions.

The Ducks aren't paying a 3rd rounder for retention that they don't need.
>> anehiem be hard pressed to hit salary floor if they are sellers at deadline
Every cap strapped team with a contract to dump said the same exact thing last summer and zero teams had any trouble hitting the floor, including the Ducks. Nothing is easier in the NHL than spending money.

He can play anywhere up and down the lineup at C and LW, PK, PP, leadership, proven winner at multiple levels (OHL, Mem Cup, WJC Silver, WHC Gold), stanley cup final experience.
Henrique without half a season of retention is the definition of a player that gets a 1st at the deadline, now add on a year and a half retention and Kulikov to that.
Kylington doesnt have any value, who knows when hes gonna play again. Ruzicka is a nice piece that might interest Verbeek but he isnt a main piece for Rico
Rico for the 2023 1st and Ruzicka gets it done, then a 2nd or 3rd (depending on demand) for Kulikov. And those prices might go up if Verbeek wants to put an in-division tax on top</div></div>
I'm all over Ruzicka + a 2nd and 3rd, Calgary should be holding onto that 2023 1st round pick for dear life though at this point. Henrique could be a perfect acquisition for a ton of teams out there, similar to the Coleman/Goodrow trades that Tampa made before their cup. Kulikov was a bit of a luxury add in this deal, to get Henrique I would take him out and look at other 3rd pairing options if need be.
Kylington was more or less to make the cap work next season, value is low but could be a good low cost acquisition for a team out there if he plays next season, waaaayyy too many unknowns to move at the deadline I think. Just spitballing here!

We'd retain the full 50% ($2,912,500) on Adam Henrique, which is a full roster spot and therefore significant.
I would accept that offer as the Anaheim GM, and I'd play Kapanen at RW because that's where he belongs and that's where we're weak.
I don't see the point of the San Jose trade. Left-handed forwards we've got tons of.

Lost in all the noise about Jakob Chychrun to Los Angeles with or without Brandt Clarke yesterday was that Eakins scratched Comtois again last night. At least no one can blame him for the third-period debacle.

I would of course accept that offer as the Anaheim GM, but you should know that several of us Ducks adherents have agreed to accept the later of Ottawa's two 2024 seconds for Zaitsev, with the Anaheim 2024 sixth going back.

Assuming Toews and McCabe will both waive for Toronto, this offer is pretty close. Hawks would have little interest in the injury prone Robertson or the career AHL'er McMann, so replace those two with a F prospect the Hawks would want like Moldenhauser and Hawks probably accept

Ducks so very easily decline, Henrique is scoring at the same pace 5v5 as Horvat over the past 3 years (18.1G per 82 GP)
He can play anywhere up and down the lineup at C and LW, PK, PP, leadership, proven winner at multiple levels, stanley cup final experience.
Henrique with half a season of retention is the definition of a player that gets a 1st at the deadline, now add on another year to and you can see where Im going
And before you say you didnt put retention, Rico is the Ducks most valuable trade chip, we have an abundance of cap space and have no other place to use it. The Ducks are going to retain and get a 1st+, it would be poor asset management to do anything else
none of those player have positive value to us outside of Steen and even he barely has value. Smith and Reilly are cap dumps in this scenario, Frederic is a 4th liner. Having to "flip" players isnt a positive either, its a firm negative as we assume risk of injury, decline in play, lack of market. If its so easy to trade those pieces the Bruins can do it.
This is a pretty insulting offer tbh, this doesnt even get Verbeek on the phone

You have to remember, Henrique has another season left under contract, meaning that we would be retaining for 1.5 seasons. It also means, we are under no pressure to move him, as we don't have an internal replacement at 1LW, and the UFA market for LW this season sucks. You need to make us an offer we can't refuse, and this isn't it. We want premium assets, which is either your 23 1st, or a 23 2nd and a blue chip prospect at a position of need.

Henrique for the first is fair, especially since Foligno expires and you may lose Krejci, and because we're sports, we'll take the two cap dumps off your hands, but why are we paying for them?

What does 26th overall have to do with anything? No one mentioned it prior to your last comment. The subject is what to do with the 12th overall pick, which is where Florida is now and is likely to stay, when the choice will be between the ninth- or tenth-rated forward and the first- or second-rated defenseman.
Gulyayev is rated 8th among European skaters by Central Scouting in their preliminary listing; Sandin Pellikka third.

like lets say the florida pick ends up in the 11-13 range, take the bpa, could be a 1st liner instead of reaching on what could be a 2nd pair dman most likely.
u then trade said 1st liner and whatever the team needs for a number 1 RD. dmen takes longer to develop so theres that too.</div></div>
I think I'll stick with the approach I've developed over the more than 40 years of experience I've had in the matter. There are too many "could's" in your advice, and I don't understand the two-step process of drafting a trade chip to acquire a need when you could just address the need directly. And the fact that defensemen take longer to develop is, in my experience, exactly why you want to draft exceptional ones earlier than later.
