<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brolekb2b</b></div><div>A 3x5 for Stamkos would be really ideal and open up room for some more off-season spending. Sheary would need to sustain his performance to have any semblance of positive value, and Perbix could maybe fetch a late 3rd, much more ideal than a 4th. Duclair has looked great here, so I wouldn't be opposed to resigning him for a good rate, especially since we gave up a 3rd and one of our best RD prospects.</div></div>

I would think based on how they have played so far, Duclair and Dumba re-signing would be more likely than Tarasenko and Tanev. Both want to play together, seem to gel with team so far, time living in/ enjoying Tampa Bay area might get them to some home town discount. Would also be better for JBB to sign them knowing how they play here, reduce risk of outside free agents not fitting in (like Sheary).

Wheeler is playing well with his low contract this year, so I suspect he can try to find a team to overpay him a bit more. Would like him here at that price but hard to see it.

Sheary has no value and likely would have to send a pick away to have someone take him. He also can make trader harder with partial no trade clause. I suspect more likely buyout unless he proves his worth the next 15 games and playoffs.

Stammer at 3X5 would be great and closer to what is needed for JBB to re-sign. Great value but the cap is our enemy.

Perbix should draw a 3rd and I would think odd man out based on other D we have and them having

I do agree at times it seems JBB over pays for players however I do not think most of what you listed are as drastic. Other GM's know our first round picks will be late in round and do not always hold a lot of value and all depends on how deep they rank draft.

Trade negotiating between real GM's is far different than playing the NHL video games. You do not get the chance to make unlimited offers over and over again, starting out small and then just adding a small piece each time until the other GM says ok. Many of the player JBB went for with a reason and sometimes you have to overpay a bit more. There are many times of negotiation tactics and rules that would have applied to each deal and the results of not doing them results in paying more or loosing the player you wanted.

Example: Jeannott was rumored to be a key part of Nashville's future and the GM new JBB wanted him. The offer JBB made might have been made so that Nashville did not openly shop him, which could have raised the asking price if other teams showed more interest (maybe wouldn't happen but a risk). This could have applied to Coleman as well whom JBB got a days before the deadline, likely paying a premium at the time to prevent other teams from upping their offer. Maybe the asking price for Coleman would have been more than Foote and a 1st by the time the deadline. Coleman and Goodrow were keys in "BACK TO BACK" cups. All the NHL talked about our third line in those two playoffs.

Hagel has potential to stay here long term with the cap projected for $88m the following season and be a valued long term asset while adding talent at a low cap hit at first. I know Raddysh showed well in Chicago (getting top 6 time because they suck), but Katchouk hasn't shown much of anything since juniors and did not produce with the Hawks. I would call this a good trade for winning now and the future if he can sign Hagel long term.

Most of the points you make on the prospects can apply to every GM that ever existed. All the time "promising" players don't get signed or get moved before they show their "potential". So many prospects get shuffled around or have different journey's. How many teams signed or gave tryouts to Marty St. Louie before getting to the Bolts?

Nick Paul signed long term and will be a great middle 6 forward.
Darren Raddysh really looked good at the end for us and can be a huge success of late bloomer.

The two Stanley Cups prove he brought in good players and reaching the finals a third year. We have seen a lot of flashy trade deadline deals for teams that don't pan out (Rangers added Kane and Teresenko, etc) but the ones JBB has done made a difference. Stevie-Y may not have made similar trades, refusing to "overpay" for players like Coleman, Goodrow, and Hagel which all results in Stanley Cup wins or reaching the finals.
