Montreal Canadiens in 2025-2026
I think by 2025-2026 one of Anderson and Gally will be gone. I think that they will make a shot at a big ufa. If Nylander becomes available Mtl should gave him is 10millions. Nylander have been a clutch players for the Leafs and always play extremely great at Bell center. By then Joshua Roy will be on the roster. Also if Montembeault get a hot start Mtl will try to sign him for 5 years. That will gave them a security before they found a another option.

if mtl wants to compete at that time, i expect gallagher is gone. most likely bought out. in 2 years i expect to have a bit more prospect up (hopefully roy at the very least). it really depend how fast the guys are developping.
its clear hughes doesnt want to rebuild for too long (with the dach and newhook trades), i bet we finish bottom 8 this year and try to make a push with one or 2 ufa signing the year after.

Soderstrom as a lot to prove
Lamoureux have 3rd pairing ceiling

last year the D was better than the O league wide (still not great but ranked higher) I think scoring will be much improved (losing kassian, obrien, fischer, ritchie for guenther, cooley, zucker, kerfoot they better be). on the blueline moser and valimaki it was boths first full year (expect to improve on some of the mistakes), durzi is still 24, sodestrum is 22 and this might be first full year, brown and stetcher are bottom pair vets. agree a top pair is needed but as is they should improve (chychrun didnt play 1/2 the season and ghost wasnt much on the D side).

Durzi has high end potential.
Soderstrom was 11th overall a few years ago
Vasllimaki was 16th overall from a few years ago
Moser had a decent year last year.
Simashev was 6th overall this year (I doubt we see him for a few years)
Lamoureux was their 1st round pick last year.
The D as currently constructed has a lot of question marks. If they all play to their potential, they will be a lot of fun. If not, this team crashes and burns and they get another good pick.
They just need to hit on 1-2 of those guys I listed, and this team starts shaping up nicely. Free ageency and trades are always an option to fill other slots. And they have a TON of currency to do so (hence Durzi trade).
I think Dumba adds to this group a lot.
If I am Arizona management, I am clearly focusing on acquiring more defensive pieces. But I am still very happy to run out this group to see what all these guys have. Can Durzi play 25 minutes a game? Or is he best suited at 16 minutes a game. None the less, this team should be very exciting to watch.

Because he needs more time to develop in the AHL. Nothing against him at all. The Canes just have older guys that have done what Fensore's done in juniors/college...and then also had some decent success in the AHL...so they'll likely get the NHL time where Fensore will play a few years in the AHL. That's all. Just a more realistic approach to his development timeline.

On the flip side, he’s still RFA status at the end of the deal and for a 6th rd draft pick out of Russia, the fact he’s even coming over and should be NHL matter, is found money to begin with

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRealisticGuy</b></div><div>It wasn’t that serious guys
But the chances they all became top 6 forwards & Lohrei top pairing minutes is unlikely</div></div>
Only guy I expect to be a top 6 forward is Lysell.
Poitras hoping for a middle six Center, has all the tools to be so, good on the draw, excellent skater and passer and is good both ways. Maybe he isn’t exactly a lines play driver but if he can compliment a play driver well I’d take it.
Lohrei id say could be a 3-4 dman, given his skill set he could fit along side either Carlo or Mcavoy. A lot of teams last year really wanted Lohrei in return for players bruins were asking prices on so that says something.
Merkulov I’m not to sure on he’s a skilled forward but I feel he would be a complimentary player on any line he is on but he has a good shot and did well in the AHL

Yeah I think the two you can flex with are Lehky and Val, I like the idea of a monster sized line of Val Moose and RyJo and then sliding the speed line of MacK Drouin and Lehky then the sandpaper line of Wood Colton and LOC giving teams 3 different types of lines.

As far as pick protection goes, no pick protection on the 24 first and top 10 on the 25 pick. Not both.

He is a way better goaltender than Bob IMO</div></div>
I mean, peak Bob was worth two Vezina’s; but, the point isn’t whether Helleybuck is better than Bob *right now*, because he is, even if Bob had a nice run in the playoffs (there is a reason why “goalie” has become a verb). The point is whether Helleybuck is going to be worth the $8M-$9M someone is going to pay him until he’s in his late thirties.
Goalies in the NHL are the new RB’s in the NFL. There are going to be a few diamonds, sure, but you’re better off building around a 1a/1b on mid-level contracts than you are investing big money into one guy to carry your team for 65+ games.
Even then, goalies are voodoo. <a href="https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1785263" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Absolute nobodies </a>show up and tear the league apart, then <a href="https://bleedinblue.com/2022/09/17/st-louis-blues-jordan-binnington-will-see-season/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">turn to pumpkins.</a> <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/sergei-bobrovsky-wins-vezina-trophy/c-290050070" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Proven stars</a> go from savior to <a href="https://thehockeywriters.com/every-nhl-teams-worst-contract/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">buy-out speculation.</a> Goalie just isn’t a position I’d want to invest high-end money into; I.e. the money Helleybuck is going to demand, and that someone is likely going to pay him.

Yes very solid. On the backend it's pretty likely due to the high quality prospects that some combination of Werenski, Severson, Jiricek, Mateychuk create a very solid top four.
Although Fantilli looks very promising to be a future one C and Johnson looks promising to be a good complimentary scorer, I think if two of
Johnson, Fantilli, Marchenko, Sillinger, Texier, and Chinakov turn out to be very effective second liners and 60 point guy's, this team could do some serious damage.

I think you’re close, don’t need garland. We have one of chinakhov or voronkov or dumais to take that top 9 spot.
If sillinger has a down year I could see us moving for another top 6 center.
Defense looks perfect, just as they are most likely projecting it.
Edit
Overall very solid

That's not what my concern was with the trade. What do the Penguins get out of this deal? They don't get a player that will make them better. They don't get under the salary cap. They give up draft capital.
The Pens still have several immediate problems that this trade does absolutely nothing to solve. Just buying Granlund out with DOC's arbitration would be much more beneficial than this.

While that is true about term, the penguins are clearly in absolute win now mode. So if they have to play one of the two i'd rather play the guy that's got a better chance to stay healthy and contribute vs. be focused on term remaining. Either pay to move Granlund to open cap, buy him out or play him over Hoffman.
