The moves Chuck has been making seem to indicate that Philly still thinks they're a contender or at least a playoff team. I'm no expert, but man I really don't see if with this squad.

Rangers traded a distressed asset for more than his market value. Even if Nils turns out to be a decent NHL player, this is a landslide victory for them on this deal.

From what I remember (though I didn't pay that much attention that year) I thought Svech and Zadina (in that order) were the two European forwards expected to go after consensus Dahlin. Looking back I see both were listed as North American Players by central scouting as it appears they played junior in North America. So maybe I misremember, but I do remember being surprised he fell to 6, when I expected him to go 3 or 4.</div></div>
He damn well should have been. He played just down the road in Plymouth. Holland missing on that draft pick was inexcusable

Don't forget that BOTH the Lucic and Monahan deals are up after this year. So Calgary's cap situation really isn't all that bad considering the spending spree they've been on.

I don't think it'll happen, but who saw Ned getting traded for a 3rd, a hologram of Bernier, and a Tubby's original?

Don't sleep on Yzerman taking advantage of Vegas's situation. Ned is on an expiring deal and if he can flip him to Vegas for a 1st and a prospect, I bet he'd consider it since Vegas is so far up a creek.

Anaheim likely going to tell Vegas to pound sand regardless because of the Dadonov fiasco.
Khudobin is also recovering from hip surgery.
Price ain't leaving and Vegas doesn't have the cap space.
Reimer, Bernier, and Hill don't really move the needle.
Varlamov is a realistic option but Vegas may be on his no trade list.
Vegas really painted themselves into a corner here and have only themselves to blame for it.

Amazing what a difference a few years makes. Pretty recently the Wings blue line consisted of the corpses of Green/Daley, a broken DDK, and a traffic cone/turnover machine known as Jonathan Ericsson. Now they may actually be able to help Husso/Ned out a bit

(CGY/FLA) - Tkachuk for Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PointStamkosVasilevskiy219188</b></div><div>So, oversimplified, here's what happened:
The Flames were faced with Matthew Tkachuk walking away in a year for nothing. So they traded 8 years of Matthew Tkachuk (24 years old) at a $9.5 million AAV to the Panthers for 8 years of Jonathan Huberdeau (30 years old) at a $10.5 million AAV+1 year (for now) of MacKenzie Weegar at $3.25 million AAV+Schwindt+1st.
Yes, the Huberdeau deal is likely to not age well. But considering how dire things looked for the Flames 2 weeks ago, this is incredible. They get an elite winger coming off his best season to date, plus a top-pairing defenseman that they can still extend, plus a fairly decent prospect, plus a 1st. It's an incredible turnaround.</div></div>
If I'm a Flames fan I'm feeling pretty damn good today. Wasn't this also the team people were saying needed a shakeup for YEARS? Well, those folks got what they asked for. Let the Battle of Alberta rage on.

Calgary Flames signed Jonathan Huberdeau (8 Years / $10,500,000 AAV)
I feel like every time a big name player signs a big deal, this site freaks out. Its not 1995 anymore. These guys want to get paid. Is it possible that this deal looks rough in four or five years? Sure, but its also possible that you get struck by lighting tomorrow. Calgary had to make this deal and in the process they get *checks notes* a guy who's been a consistent point per game player over the last five seasons.
Also, FWIW, Calgary has decent cap space even after this deal kicks in. The Lucic and Monahan deals that expire next year free up nearly 12 million. So its not like they need to dump picks to move a bad contract like a lot of other teams who made big acquisitions.

Detroit Red Wings signed Ben Chiarot (4 Years / $4,750,000 AAV)
I still don't love this deal, but after having a couple days to marinate on it, I can live with it. Seider had to carry his pairing all last year with Leddy (who looked terrible in Detroit) or DDK (who looked like he was completely cooked) and still won the Calder. Is Chiarot great? No, but he's NHL level defenseman who can eat minutes and is an upgrade over what Detroit had on a depleted left side. I just wish the deal was a year shorter.
