both pieces...Graves is too important to the Avs Dcore and Newhook is a stud prospect. Would you trade Caufield for a Tatar if you were in a playoff spot bc thats what this is suggesting.
For reference.
Caufield 30gp 18g 14a 32 pts
Newhook 28gp 16g 16a 32pts (and Newhook plays an solid 2way game)

This deal doesn't make sense for MTL whatsoever. I can trade Domi to cup contender and they'll over pay. Brodin should be traded to a cup contender cause any rebuilding team isn't gonna touch a top 4 pairing D (they're expensive) with 1 yr remaining before hitting free agency.</div></div>

The Inevitable
I just can't get behind a Brodin deal involving Domi. Flip the scripts, what would you have said if this was last year when Brodin was worth two 2nds as an option and Domi was considered untouchable? Has one year flipped everything? Brodin is 1 year away from free agency and having a good but not great season. Domi may be having a down year but he's an RFA that can be controlled for much longer and is bound to rebound next year...
If Im the Habs, adding a LHD now is too late. The time was this offseason. Now the Habs have Kulak and Chiarot signed long term. Mete will be resigned and Romanov coming over specifically to play in the NHL. Brodin all but ensures that Kulak is a 7th dman and Mete is traded. I just don't see it.

you've got a lot of extra cap space now, I'd definitely up the Petro/Krug contracts by a bit - probably 8-9 each

Not sure why they would want Gallagher. The only reason Kane or Crosby would be moved is for a full rebuild.

Crosby is 32 and likely isn't going to play much longer with his concussion history, while you might not like it, it's probably the best time for Pittsburgh to sell off and still get assets to continue winning.

3 first round picks and a 2nd for 31 YO making 10,5 Million until he's 35? I know Kane is good and all, but Chicago would be nuts to turn that down, on the otherside Montreal rejects.
But yes, Montreal rejects the 2nd trade.

Not to mention they probably won't enough have enough cap to give Kotkaniemi his big contract

Not the worst trades I’ve seen. If I was Calgary I’d have a hard time saying no. WPG also gets a 2nd line centre and a super solid top 4 dman + 1st round pick. If I was WPG I might do that too. Probably need to add another sweetener imo

Not a horrible trade with the flames but there's no chance they move Tkachuk with how valuable he's become.

Rantanen Tkachuk no Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Architect</b></div><div>The discussion ends soon as COL mentions any one of those prospects.</div></div>
This is my biggest problem with prospects, people overvalue the one's on their team WAY too much. Caulfield and Poehling are probably in the top 30-40 range as far is NHL affiliated prospects go. Rantanen is a top 10 winger in the entire NHL. It's very unlikely that Kotkaniemi, Caulfield or Poehling start their careers even near how great Rantanen started his, and he's only 22, so he has almost 10 years left in his prime. Giving up 2 of those guys for a player of that caliber is absolutely what it will take to get him.

fun looking roster but Avs would have 0 interest in that trade, 2 years of Gallagher and hope and prayers that you can land a guy close to as good as Rants with the 1st round picks.
You dont land one of the top young Wingers in the game on hopes and prayers, you need more solid young commodities to temp a team

New York Rangers are not known as a classy organization at all. They were the organization that waived both redden and their captain Drury to play in the minors to save cap.
People are want to play for NYR for the same reason that the Knicks are often a free agency destination despite them sucking: it's New York city! Playing on front of the bright lights in the mega world city.

Gorton is going to move Kreider to whoever offers the best return. However, Kreider has a modified no trade and not sure he would waive to go to Montreal. Either way, at this point I think they are waiting for a 1st round pick to trade him or will just hold off until the trade deadline.

Most teams might feel that way now. Main reason they want to hold onto him until the Deadline. Increase his trade value.
