Couldn't they not even call someone up a few weeks ago because they were so up against the cap? a 4M cap hit to play in the AHL is a massive hit for a team with Stanley Cup hopes + 2 super stars in their prime.

I like to think so but oilers are scrambling right now so that pick may end up being in the 11- 20 range + Holloway is a really nice piece. Habs can buyout Campbell with the worst of it coming in at 2.6M hit for the next few years. There's also a limit as to how much a gm can pay to dump a contract he himself signed without getting himself fired and that package seems close to the ceiling.

Yeah fair enough. might have to be upped a tad but i think two fourths and a throw in should get it done.

Nothing but a first round pick in a draft thats suppose to be as deep as 2015s, a flippable roster player who could fetch you at worst a Lars Eller return of a 2nd round pick at deadline and a B+ prospect who was a 3rd round pick last year.
Keep dreaming.

I meant to send Barron down to laval to see what could come of him. I like barron and its easy to forget hes still 21 years old until november. I dont think the habs are ready to move off baron yet and we know the massive premium that PMRHD have. i dont see the habs trading two B (+) prospects. Theyd just wait and let him walk in that case.
I havent seen the reports that winni doesnt want dvorak but if they go into a retool/rebuild and have him playing towards the top of the lineup he could have a more offensive season, with his defensive game he could be flipped at deadline for a decent dime.

Dubois to MTL is inevitable
Friends, take it ez.
To comment, Dubois is not a superstar no, superstars make a lot more dollars but you can ice a very competitive team without a "superstar".
Caufield might score 45 and still not be a "Superstar". Look at the Hurricanes, is Aho a "superstar"? i dont think so.
And the fact that he's not better than suzuki might be correct but he is better than Dach which is what makes bringing him to montreal so good imo. It gives you the liberty to play Dach top line with suzuki and caufield or move Dubois to the wing if necessary and play that role. Obviously not the same or close but its like how Edmonton has McDavid, Draisaitl RNH and can move those three around and make powerlines and all sorts of fun stuff.
The habs are not trading Beck so whoever is screaming for that to happen please stop.
The jets do have leverage because they can sign him to a 1yr and send him to a contender and have him there as a rental and possibly get a similar or slightly better return but the habs could also improve the offer to include Kidney over Norlinder or strubble or engstrom or a number of other prospects.
With a dubois to MTL, i can see the lines looking something like
Caufield Suzuki Dach
Slaf Dubois Andy
i like that top 6 with the potential to move some pieces around.

Barron and a 1st is too much spent on a guy you can get for free in 2 years anyways.
There's no rush to acquire Dubois now other than the hype of people saying he's trying to force himself to Montreal and if that was the case, his trade value has fallen far bellow a top prospect and a 1st round pick in a very very deep draft next year.

Habs aint paying that for a dude who will come over in 2 years for free. If habs wanted to trade for dubois that bad they would have dealt Winni the 13th pick they got from trading Romanov and some other piece(s) instead of getting Dach.

Barrie for Hoffman is interesting from a Habs point of view but i dont think EDM is in too much of a rush to move on Barries now that they got Keith and Smith off the books. I also dont know how willing they are to commit 4.5M for 2 more years to an aging winger who would very likely play outside the top 6 and have a very hard time making their top PP with Draisaitl standing on the right dot. Still interesting to think about however

He should command around 5 mil. Petry also was not on pace for a 10 goal 40 point season last season. Don’t say he gets the “worst team in the league pass”. That doesn’t exist. 2018 jack eichel is the example. Sabres we’re far and away the worst team in the league. Eichel was still PPG. Petry is beginning to fall off and it is league wide knowledge. Petry playing 26 minutes a night doesn’t help his case for falling off offensively. He had his worst offensive season in years while playing 26 minutes a night? Does that show signs of play decay? He’s just going to get worse and don’t be surprised if he is not moved before the start of the season his value goes down. Petry is not worth what you say he is and the stats show it.</div></div>

We really comparing 34 year old petry to 24 year old Eichel?
Yikes.
The only way deangelo sign for 5M is if his contract is for 1 year then hes a UFA. No one is trading a 1st for that.

Mcmichael isn’t a prospect anymore, he played 68 games last season. Ferharvary also isn’t a prospect, he played 79 games. Tbh there is no need for Washington to make this trade where they lose their top forward prospect and top defensive prospect to get “center stability” when it can easily be found in free agency. They have been linked to trocheck who is probably the best fix right now. There’s malkin, giroux, Bergeron, trocheck, strome, and kadri all as center options this free agency class. They don’t even really need to sign any of them because the player you view as their top prospect (Connor mcmichael). Plays center and going into his sophomore season he will be getting an elevated role. Ideally he slides into the 2C while backstrom is injured and moved to 3C when he gets better as opposed to signing a player or trading for one and having him slide to 4C when backstrom is healthy. He was drafted as a center and forced to play wing but he should be developed as a center. It simply does not make sense for the caps to do this trade in any manner</div></div>

Except none of those options are realistic contracts you can slide on the wing for when backstrom returns? Trochek is gonna sign for 6.5-6M +, malkin is un-reliable with injuries, bergeron isnt leaving boston, kadri too expensive. If you have eller or Mcmichael playing 2C that is automatically one of the worst center groups in the league and you dont even know how long or if on backstrom. If he ends up coming back around christmas or january lets say then you have a 4.3M 200 foot guy on your wing just like Colorado just payed what came out to be basically a 1st and 2nd in being Lehkonen and he couldnt even play center.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hurricanes73</b></div><div>A more realistic option that Dallas would pay a first for is TDA. He’s younger and better. Difference is is that petry isn’t a racist.</div></div>
TDA to me is a very different player than Petry. Petry can eat up 26 minutes a night and play a reasonably defensively sound game as a smooth skating point getting, 6'3 dman. DeAngelo averages closer to 20 minutes a night as an undersized Dman who had 20 of his 51 points coming from the powerplay. His off ice issues aside, DeAngelo will command atleast as much if not more money than Petry as this league seems to throw whatever money at RHD. Aditionally, his trade would probably have to be a sign and trade with Carolina that will most likely cost you more than just a 1st. Sooner than later people are going to realize that 6.5 million for Petry who although 34 had 4 straight 10+ goals 40+ point seasons + his size + his ability to play massive minutes is not as bad as a contract as its made out to be.
