let the kids play and retool on the fly
I can see Detroit being interested but for a 2nd you'd need to retain a bit of his salary, maybe between $1.5M and $1M.

Points are everything anymore. Hedman was one of the worst defencemen defensively per the analytics this year</div></div>
Yeah I get that points aren't everything but it Ottawa had Stamkos you'd have to think they make the playoffs. That race was tight down to the end.

I was just saying he probably is as tuned in to Nashville's plans for the offseason. But <a href="/users/gmgb" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@gmgb</a> is the right guy to ask.

Yeah but Holl's buyout is $1.33M x 4. So it's not worth giving up a 3rd even if we are getting back 5th.

I'm a wings fan and Fabbro was someone I was hoping stevie would target this off season but after he signed his contract I figured he probably wasn't available. Do you think Trotz would still be willing to shop him?</div></div>
He's a Habs fan.

Detroit isn't paying a 3rd to move Fabbri. He put up 18g and 32 points in 68 games while averaging just under 13 minutes a game.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksnOilers</b></div><div>I don't think it makes sense for either side personally,
Bouchard is a better fit for Edmonton (Offensively based) + a better player right now (Which fits Edmonton's win- now situation)
Seider is a better fit for Detroit (Two-way based) + going to be better in the long-term (Which fits Detroits youth movement)
Overall the trade isn't bad value wise but both teams are better off with their own guys</div></div>
I agree!

Detroit can't afford that contract. So they obviously pass on Tavares and he'd have to waive.

Tavares and marner gone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNM_Dynasty</b></div><div>That's a fair point and up until recently I thought this way too. However, I think Tavares is a big part of the problem. He's our captain but he barely speaks, he doesn't hit much, he's below average as a defensive centre, and I've never seen him fight. Whether he retains his captaincy or not he sets the tone and is a big part of the culture problem. I think turning a corner starts with trading tavares and continuing focus on building a tough defensive team.</div></div>
This season was his 15th would he even want to play if it involves moving to a new city?
I get what you are saying, even if you could get him cheap how do you take away his C. I can only think of one way where everyone saves face but it's <strong><em>HIGHLY UNPROBABLE!!</em></strong> After next season if he waits a month or 2 into the season to deicide if he want to play. By that time the new Leafs captain has had time to settle in. But I don't see happening.

Tavares and marner gone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNM_Dynasty</b></div><div>I disagree. You tell a guy he's not resigning and you'll trade him to a choice destination and he'll leave. The alternative is he stays another year only to get destroyed by the media before finally leaving anyways. I don't get why it's so far-fetched to you.</div></div>
Do you remember when Toronto signed Tavaras and how everyone made a big deal about him coming home. The picture of him as a kid with his Maple Leaf bed sheets. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for him to waive. But it could end up working in the Leafs favor. If Toronto doesn't win the Cup this season or next season, I could see him taking a lot less to stay in Toronto and getting a couple more cracks at a Cup.
