Kane Trade Proposal

Agreed.... but DeBoer has already pretty much assured Seguin of that spot. It's been all in the media covering the team this offseason. 2C is Seggy's this year.

They need a backup Goalie behind Velj and they also need much more depth at Center. This fits both of those needs for them.

I honestly don't think the Stars trade Seguin. He also has a NMC and would have to agree to that, and I don't see him leaving Dallas to go to a rebuild in Chicago in his later playing years.

I think the deal for Robo is WAY too low. I think he gets around $8M/yr.

This year team
Dallas has Oettinger and Wedgewood as their two NHL goalies. They also still have Khudobin, who they are likely trying to move. Not sure why they would agree to acquire Jake Allen.

Yeah... I just like playing hypothetical and seeing what our lineup could look like. Three years from now, Dallas will be an incredibly strong team.

Oh, I agree. I just know that Seguin will be the 2C this season. And Benn is likely the 3C this season. Until they are both gone, our kick*** prospects will be lower in the lineup...Unless they move to wing.

Klingberg returns in a shorter deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>noahs21</b></div><div>If they do your proposed "bridge" deal with Klinger and he regains some of his form, why would you then sign him to a longer deal with a higher AAV? He'll be 33 years old by then, wouldn't it be better to just let him walk/trade him after the 3 years than to cap strap yourself again by giving him another raise? Harley will be more developed then, as will Bischel and hopefully Kyrou and/or Fegaras, so Klingberg would be a bottom 3 defenseman on this team when that new contract would kick in</div></div>
I think that's why you sign him to a shorter deal (I.E. 3 years). You hope he can regain his former play under DeBoer for those three years through the 24-25 season. If he doesn't, you're not locked in to him long-term and you haven't broken the bank.
If he DOES regain his great form and play, you're getting another 3 years of great play at a bargain price. And in three years when Klinger's deal is over, you hope that the prospects you mentioned like Harley, Bischel, Kyrou, Fegaras, etc. are developed enough for at least one of them to step in and take over for Klinger. Then, you can then either let Klinger walk or you'll have enough cap money to sign him to another larger deal (Benn, Faksa, Suter and Lindell will all be off the books after 24-25 which gives you over $22M in cap room).

I'm not sure why Anaheim agrees to that deal?
I also think those bridge deals are still under valued, even for bridge deals. I understand the comparisons, but those were both several years ago. I think Robo gets around $7M per and Oetter gets $5M per.
On Klinger... I wouldn't consider 5 years a shorter deal. I would offer 3. Almost like a bridge deal for Klinger. See if he can regain his former self and then sign him to a multi-year, higher paid extension (4 or 5 year extension at $8M per). Then he gets his long-term deal and high dollars.

TML - v20
While I'd LIKE to see this trade as a Stars fan, the Stars are out of cap space and wouldn't be able to add the difference in salary that trade proposal makes. We have two big RFAs left to sign (Robertson and Oettinger) who will take up all of our remaining cap space.

Yeah.... Dallas isn't trading any prospects or picks for Petry. Their cap situation would require Montreal take a contract or two plus retaining some salary. I doubt Dallas makes any more moves on Defense.

As a Stars fan, would love to have another Forward in Kerfoot. But we no longer have the cap space to acquire another player without moving another contract. We already have to move a contract to have enough cap room for our extensions with Robertson and Oettinger.

I also think those contracts are a little right for Oetter and Robo... both terms and money. I think Oetter is more likely around the $4M mark and Robo around the $6.5-7M mark.

Sweet - thanks! I thought about giving Robo more dollars... but realized he's only 22. Even with a 5-year deal, he'll be signing a new one when he's 27 and coming into his prime years. I think at that point is when he could sign his super mega deal.

I just don't see the Stars adding a 1st on top of that existing offer... Petry's numbers were not super great last year. Could deal with removing the retention though.
