Why you don't trust Tavy & Matthews as center.. every leafs friends are crucifying Marner from the playoff performance... time to move him out and make some room$$$
Petry @ 3M is a real bargain in there and would set your defense for big next season... with our 1st pick you will get a GREAT kid ready in 2 years to jump in your top6

I'd like to see them do a bridge deal. Gives DeBrusk a chance to potentially pot a few 30 goal seasons and that will mean a bigger payday. It also is around the time Boston has some big contracts coming off the books.

DeBrusk is top 20 among LW in goals since entering the league.

with a flat cap theyd be sitting at just shy of $29 million in space.
Krejci
Kase
Ritchie
Kuraly
Carlo
Chara
Rask
Halak
Chara at $1 million (if he doesnt retire)
Let Halak walk and go to Vladar (should be under $1 million)
That leaves $27 million for the remaining guy (roughly $4.5 mil per, but some would be more and some less). Its doable
I get it though its a preference thing. I was just playing with idea as something different and trying to maximize the laat fee years of the old core.

Hamilton has just one year left on his contract. Teams aren't giving up so much as Canes fans hope for. And really this post....somehow you have AHLer as 3rd line winger, Thornton coming to Leafs and iffy Barabanov as a 3rd line winger. Even with Hamilton the Leafs aren't better.

Fixed it for you. True fans have no problem, its the pink hats that are all upset. Funny enough they're the same ones that say you'll never win a Cup with Rask, so you'd think they'd be happy that he left....but nope they'll blame him for leaving if Boston doesn't win it all :tearsofjoy.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more signings like this over the next month or so. Trying to get cap arranged for next year. Maybe start to see some bigger extensions signed soon too so we can see who stays and who is a victim of the tight cap space.
Great signing for the leafs though. Rosen looked great in camp and ore season and has looked amazing for the marlies. Think he could be a great asset for moving the puck at 3 lhd next season.

I am also a big fan of Durzi and was pretty happy when we selected him this past draft, I think he has a lots of potential but will take a few years to develop. However, I'm not sure if Liljegren is ready for a top four role starting this season as I personally think it would be best for his development to stay with the Marlies one more year, Babcock has also proven to be a fan of "over-cooking" prospects in the minors so that they make immediate impact when they are called up (eg: Marner and Nylander). This upcoming season I expect Johnsson to be a regular and most likely Grundstrom as well if he can out play guys like Leivo and Ennis at Training Camp. On defense I am expecting the usually lineup of Rielly/Gardiner/Dermott and Hainsey/Zaitsev/Carrick to play out the season with the occasional sighting of guys like Rosen, Borgman, Ozhiganov, and Liljegren. The big change should come next season as I highly doubt Dubas is the kind of GM to resign an aging Hainsey and a defensively challenged Garinder (who would probably ask for to much anyway), meaning I could see Liljegren and Zaitsev with either one of Ozhiganov or Carrick making up the right side, while on the left Rielly will hold the top spot giving Dermott Gardiner's old spot and then calling up either Rosen or Borgman for the entire season.

Let's look at recent history. Two seasons ago, Trouba "held out" after his ELC, and then signed a his first RFA deal....2 years at 2.8m each. Then this year he went to arbitration, and after this year he still has one year of a RFA till he's a UFA. That's a total of four RFA years after his three years of his ELC.
Actually Nylander is a different position than Trouba. Trouba had 3 years of plus 40 games of his ELC, which makes him eligible to be a UFA after another four years of RFA.
Nylander has had only 2 season of 40 plus games as a ELC so he has 5 years of RFA seasons before being a UFA.

Sorry, I don't know why you think 22 or 23 year NHL can suddenly be UFAs. Actually drafted Europeans who remain in Europe and don't sign NHL contracts have their NHL right held by drafting team often till the age of 27.
The key is whether the the team has given the player a qualifying offer.
Nylander worth 8m? It always a question. Certainly no other team has put in an offer sheet. 8m would make him about the 4th highest paid RWer. Doubt if any team thinks he's worth that much

He doesn't deserve 8 mil are you whacked out of your mind? He had 20 goals last year and looked disinterested for long periods, and the biggest eye sore was when Matthews was injured for around 20 games he only put up around .5 ppg. He is a 6 mil player right now, same with Ehlers and Larkin his best comparables. Its a weird time in the hockey world when other teams fans are overvaluing the leafs players and not the other way around

That's not correct. Since Nylander was in fact qualified by the Leafs, he will remain under team contract until his service time indicates he can become a UFA. There are many examples of International players, specifically Russian, that will leave the NHL without a contract as an RFA only to return sometime afterwards. They are still under team RFA control because of the original qualifying offer made.

The same D core that gave up 5+ goals vs Boston in round 1 THREE times. In the playoffs. That's pretty alarming.</div></div>
I don't know why it's that alarming. they won three games against boston. so they did outscore boston in three games, so where was the bruins defence. the jets and there high priced defence allowed 16 less goals, Columbus allowed 4 less goal, Holty and the Caps , two goals difference. in the regular season. might be time to get off this scenario.

Could The Leafs Have the Leagues First Zone Applied D?
Pretty solid breakdown of the Leafs defense.
So many people call for a Nylander trade to bring in someone like Jacob Trouba or Colton Parayko or Matthew Dumba, when in reality if your D-men can adequately do the tasks that you outlined we don't need to waste a valuable forward asset like Nylander on another D-man. Our defense isn't flashy or elite like Nashville or Winnipeg but it can get the job done, and with the level of offence we have, and then the game stealing skill of Andersen, we'll be fine.
