PP2 and Trouba, I would not mind an open competition. Trouba did run the Jets PP, so after pairing with Lindgren looking for a resurgence on his O side. ;)
Gus's connection to Laviolette is another factor but Jones should get a shot after his strong play in the AHL

For three years I would not think a raise, more like 3@1.25. The comments by Motte at the end of the season and the beat writers' comments as well make me think they already have a deal done but are pulling a Lou and not announcing until the last moment. If that is so then probably on the lower end too.

The 7.5% is the amount of potential obligation a team is allowed to have before it starts counting against the cap in the current year. In 22-23, if a team had more than $6,187,500 (82.5M *7.5%) in potential performance bonuses written into contracts then it would immediately start counting against the cap thereby affecting the TDL. Some teams have run into this problem because they could not bring up a prospect with a potentially large $$ obligation in performance bonuses because it would affect the cap. Any amount that is paid at the end of the year above the cap will carry over to next year's cap

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>Possibly. The Sabres need to be more difficult to play against, in my opinion, but our gm doesn't seem to be too focused on adding size. The Sabres have 4 first round pick forwards coming soon, all on the small side. I guess it's a philosophical thing, I don't see the Sabres front office moving a first round pick for a winger with size, unless it's a Timo meier type trade.</div></div>
Cuylle will be a black ace this year and is on the fast track to making the NYR next year, good chance on the 3L, but it could be a crazy off-season. He could fit in on the other side of Greenway for a physical line that is more playoff oriented, it seems like it could be a good move to burn some draft/prospect capital to bring in an NHL-ready prospect to mature with the rest of the team especially given the depth of the Sabres farm system.

Goody has done a fantastic job in his role and is more or less considered invaluable by GG, and Drury would be loathed to move him. It comes down to $$ and movement clauses, and he makes enough that if he is traded it could make an impact on the cap, also he doesn't have a NMC but a 15 no-trade list. The more likely scenario he would be traded is if the cap goes up by $3.5M and the NYR figure out a way to keep the current group together, otherwise youth is on the way to fill in the gaps and Goody will be retained for his leadership.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>If Othmann is ready for the NHL out of the gate next year- that’s great…but I wouldn’t plan for that. More likely a mid season call up. Last thing they should do is rush him to the NHL. When he’s ready, hopefully he’s brought up and can take off like Wyatt Johnson.</div></div>
Othmann says he can play either wing comfortably, fingers crossed. He could be given more dev time if we could balance out the wingers on both sides. A skating coach to teach play on both wings? It should be expected in the NHL today that a higher percentage of forwards can play either wing or at least teams should be able to figure out what a player needs without having to go to the extent of playing O on one wing and D on another wing as has been done in the NHL. Laffy has said that his discomfort with RW is on D and when I watch Kreider the same issue, plays fine in the O zone but on D he seems a little awkward. Really just need one player to convert, so give the reps needed to work it out. Kreider or Laffy are the logical candidates One other alternative is to move Trocheck to 2RW and Chytil to 2C, but then no 3C. McConnell-Barker is looking like the heir apparent at 3C but not yet and Grubbe or Korczak are not ready to start the year there :grimace and the promising Rydahl experiment is over. There is always Goodrow but that 4L is one of the best as is.

Does Foegele play Center and PK? Goodrow has played the floater role with adeptness, fits in on any line and in any position when needed, and provides leadership in the B6. He is a GG favorite and Drury does not want to lose him (of course due to the Cap he might have to, but I tend to think this won't happen). If Foegele is thought of in the same light by the Oilers then they have a keeper. My impression was that his play hasn't been as effective since the Oilers acquired him.

Yes!, consistent lines for the final push. Despite all the shuffling, in the end, GG is stuck on certain duos KZ, PT, and to a lesser extent CK, others fit in around them and Laffy exhibits his playmaking skills on the kid line. There are only two positions to decide on, Kane and Tarasenko. On the surface, it seems like Kane is the playmaker needed for KZ, but chemistry is more important. Kane mentioned in his intro interview that Panarin was for a short time and he would be happy to play with other top forwards, so we will have to see how it shakes out. Interesting comment about Tarasenko not liking players screening for his shots as much as others because he likes to read the weight distribution of the goalie, which seems would work better on the PT line. GG also said he likes Vesey at LW.

How theyll make it work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>The debate the other guy and I are having is the fact that as of the comments coming from Brison (Kane's agent), Kane himself, and the Hawks GM as of yesterday....they all have confirmed a waiver list has not been submitted to Hawks.
Now, seeing the reports this morning, it sure points to that Kane (or his agent) have told Davidson to work a deal with the Rangers, but the other guy is saying Kane waived for the Rangers a week or two ago which factually is not true and confirmed by numerous interviews with Kane, Brison and Davidson that hasn't happened yet at least up until yesterday.
People (both fans and blowhard journalists) took the below interview with Kane and made a giant leap assuming Kane already submitted the Rangers (later also the Leafs) to the Hawks when all 3 parties clearly said this week that hasn't happened.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heHSQXdPK7w
Even the attached article is still speculation. There some evidence of what is going on, but "One person with knowledge of the situation told lohud.com, part of the USA TODAY Network" does not substantiate fact. We can only go on what Kane, Davidson and Bison have said until fact presents itself; otherwise it's just speculation.
For Kane's sake, on a personal note, I hope he gets to go to The Rangers as it's a fun team to watch, but let's also be honest....the Hawks aren't going to just accept a 5th rounder for him either. There is a line in the sand where keeping Kane to continue to put warm bodies in the seats at the United center is more important then a just accepting any old return...who knows what that return is if this happens but promise it's not a 4th or 5th rounder.</div></div>
Not trying to quibble, but the "waiver list" comment screams double speak. Lots of the time a waiver list is never submitted, the team will ask about a specific team or is told a specific team which technically is not a list. Similar comments were made about Giroux last year in that he never submitted a list, but everyone knew the reality of the situation. Definitely not just a 4th or 5th rounder for sure.

You should get a subscription to The Athletic if you don't already have one. They are the most reliable source of information in a lot of people's opinions versus a bunch of the blowhard amateur journalists and podcasters trying to stir the pot to get views</div></div>
There are lots of conflicting reports including podcasts from the Athletic. Here is an excerpt from a professional beat writer with credentials to get in the locker room. No reason I picked this one except I just read it. https://www.lohud.com/story/sports/nhl/rangers/2023/02/24/rangers-cant-block-out-noise-with-patrick-kane-trade-wheels-in-motion/69940199007/
And what will Chicago's compensation be? That remains up in the air, but there are reasons to believe it's a lower asking price than it was just a few weeks ago.
How we got here
One person with knowledge of the situation told lohud.com, part of the USA TODAY Network, that Kane has wielded the power of his no-movement clause to insist on New York as his deadline destination. That's changed everything for the Rangers in a matter of days.
Initially, they budgeted to acquire one star right winger. Drury narrowed in on Kane and St. Louis' Vladimir Tarasenko as his two primary targets before deciding that the latter was the preferred choice for a variety of reasons on Feb. 9.
At that point, the Rangers were prepared to move on. They allowed other opportunities to accrue cap space to pass by without much urgency because they were comfortable with where they stood. But this week, it became abundantly clear that Kane was thinking Broadway or bust.
Drury was faced with a decision: If Kane is trying to force his way here and leaves the Blackhawks with little option but to lower their demands, is it worth recalibrating his plans?
Ultimately, it seems, the prospect of adding the future Hall of Famer at a discounted rate was too good to pass up.
There are still several hurdles to clear before they can make that deal happen, but the expectation is that it will no longer require the Rangers to part with their remaining 2023 first-round pick, any core members of the active roster or top prospect Brennan Othmann.

If Kane's wish is going to the Rangers, then he's going to the Rangers. It's just the nature of a unique situation. Keeping him to fall further away from last in the league and worse Bedard odds is a worse outcome than trading him for peanuts. This team needs to suck to get Bedard, if they only get a 2nd, they only get a 2nd.</div></div>
As you noted the ACGM calculator is off some. One way to get the cap is If Leschyshyn is waived by 2/25 then the cap space at the tdl will be around 1.75M (a nominal amount higher) and this plus kravy's 875k brings you to Kane 75% retained. There is a lot starting to seep out and who knows exactly what details are accurate, but it seems the Hawks have known for some time that it was NYR only, and tried to play it hard but were rejected. Now the expectation from local pundits is something along the line of your package. My thought is that the deal is already done, but it can't go through till the last day of the tdl to make the cap work. The first trigger will be if Leschyshyn gets waived/traded.

If Kravtsov is doing the same and there's no issues with Holloway, it doesn't make any sense.</div></div>
Yes, if Holland is that high on him. The reasons would be due to the Oiler's cap heck, Holloway's injury, and maybe being able to fit in an extra player for the stretch run. Kravy could be a great style fit. There might be something there that could make it work but less likely given Holland.

Similar stats in the same amount of games. If things were reversed then Holloway would be considered failing and Kravy would be the valuable prospect who plays well with, fill in a name, and whose upside is higher. Kravy's recent trade report was if you are not committed to playing me then trade me; reasonable. He has played well enough to be in the top 9. GG has stated he is not here to develop and Kravy is still an NHL-ready prospect whose style doesn't mesh well enough with GG to play as he learns. It would be nice if GG reevaluated his outlook on this as cheap depth is needed next year.
