<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>corson</b></div><div>5th OA will be Michkov or Smith.
The drop off after that is major.
So trading the 5th for the 14th pick would be equally as dumb as trading Bedard for the 5th OA pick.
Now that I explained it to you do you understand?</div></div>
Michkov is the guy that will be there. He’s not Bedard, but he’s real good. Wonder if the Habs will pick him. They should. We’ll see Wednesday.

17 points in 25 games is worth more than $2 million. Good deal for Montreal.

In some people's eyes yes. But this trade seems like an awfully big win for Montreal in my opinion. Moving down from 5 to 7?? Montreal is basically giving up a 2nd round pick for Carter Hart

Historical Draft Day
Forget about it, Xhekaj is off the table espically for moving up 9 spot.
Not even talking about market value but inside the organization he holds a role no one can replace and therefore is much more valuable than anything we can get for him trade wise.
The way this draft is projected, the différence between players we can get at 31 vs 22 is not worth it by a large margin.

Montreal Canadiens signed Cole Caufield (8 Years / $7,850,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Seems a little steep. Carolina can ice Svechnikov - Aho - Necas for 18 million for example and then role out Teravainen - <strong>Kotkaniemi</strong> - Jarvis which is an entire top six for not that much more. Combine that with of Dach playing out of position as a natural center, there's a lot of questions. It's a line that's fine going forward, but struggles defensively. It's also a line that has been inconsistent in its production. Committing 25% of the salary cap to it seems... rough</div></div>

Fair deal.
Both parties get good value in relation to the market. If Caufield can improve and become a true star I think MTL will be very happy down the road, with the market price only going up from here

They can roll that out for 1 more season. Then they will all be making significantly more.

Amazing deal.
Yes, there's more room for improvement in his game but I firmly believe you can afford to be a one dimensional player if that dimension is the most important in hockey and you're one of the best at it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>corson</b></div><div>Do you really think Montembeault, RHP, Roy, Beck and Matheson are "untouchables"?
I get the argument that maybe Baron might be considered untouchable because we are so thin at that position
But if in some bizarre world where a trade for Fox, Makar or some other game-breaking right shot defenseman depended on including Barron in the trade...
Hughes isn't saying "Sorry can't make the trade because Barron is untouchable", NOT HAPPENING
I would even suggest that Guhle would be available if the return makes sense
365 days ago I thought that maybe Romanov was somewhat untouchable and we all know how that went</div></div>
considering the current goalie situation, Monty is very unlikely involved in a trade anytime soon. RHP is here bc he'd also very unlikely be traded. Roy and Beck are the team's two best forward prospects, and Matheson is there bc of his past season. This is a list for this season, and I can see him traded in the future, just not right now. Anyway, the players you mentioned are on that list because I'd expect them not to be traded unless there's a as Kent likes to say "deal we cannot refuse".
Again, it's all semi realistic. I don't think the Habs are in position to buy on any big guys right now(although one can hope for a splash like you mentioned)

I can't complain. Decent 13th forward who understands his role well enough as he never complains for ice time. He's just happy to be there.

Because 21 of them are goals which are a hell of a lot harder to tally up than assists. Also size, speed and physicality are important aspects at the NHL level as well

There's a team that will...but it won't be Montreal. Chicago acquired Mrazek to make him the starter. Habs don't need Murray, at all. In fact, I'm not even sure Murray can start for anyone, which could impact his value compared to Mrazek.

Dubois Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Howie</b></div><div>Mesar would be more ideal for the jets imo. If Kidney is the offer and the jets counter with mesar instead are you really saying no with how close they are to each other?</div></div>
I wouldn't personally be opposed.
They are slightly different but comparable in value. Compromise may mean dropping the 4th, not a deal breaker.
The issue is Mesar being selected specifically for his ability to fit in with the direction and style Hughes envisions. He may not be as willing to part with some players as others.
So while not a deal breaker for me, it may be for Hughes.

Dubois Value
About Mesar/Kidney...
One thing to consider about Mesar is that he's Slafkovsky's close friend, since childhood. I know these things shouldn't really matter (especially to the Jets), but it kinda does when it comes to take care of your 1st pick overall from a year ago. If the Habs add another young center at #5, I expect Kidney to be a lot more available than Mesar for the Habs, eventough he performed better this year.

Dubois Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>Why does MTL need to have Dubois immediately?</div></div>
The argument is that when a player of that caliber is available, is young enough to be part of your group long-term, and has expressed interest in playing for your team, you might not want to risk not getting him at all.
And there's the other side of the debate where this team still isn't a playoff team with Dubois, so they should not deal futures for him and they should just wait to get a player of his caliber in the rebuilding process.
I understand both sides of the debate, but I still lean toward the former. It will be interesting to see how things turn out.
