St Loo fans what ya think
No need to waste assets to dump Dvo. He’s been good since his return. If he’s good enough next year, he will have a positive value at the TDL. If he can’t bounce back, he’ll just leave as a UFA.

Montreal Canadiens signed Lane Hutson (3 Years / $1,333,333 AAV)

It's Matheson's job to lose. And Hutson's position to earn. Period.

Don’t forget that he scored 16 goals in 55 games. That’s huge for a fourth liner. He is worth his contract as of now

Habs 2024-2025
I can't see St. Louis moving Juraj Slafkofsky off the first line -- his further development depends on ice time.
Josh Anderson is unproductive enough on his good side. That's the spot for Alex Newhook due to Kirby Dach's abysmal faceoff skills.
Your buy-out list is wrong, and that's not my opinion, it's indisputable fact. For example, because you've used the 2023-2024 skeleton, you've missed the fact that Tanner Pearson is a UFA and doesn't have to be accounted for going forward. Same with Chris Wideman. (I stopped checking there.) Similarly, Ylonen and Barron are RFAs, so you wouldn't have to buy them out, you could just not tender them their Qualifying Offers -- but why wouldn't you, since there's still some hope for Ylonen and Barron already seems to have shown enough to keep. Finally, buying out Jake Evans is a no-go: he's a perfectly good bottom-6 center.

What I Want To See
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>corson</b></div><div>I'm Assuming you are a Flames fan, just a few quick questions.
I'm just wondering is Andersson available?
Are the Flames going to rebuild their team this offseason or just do a retool?
I'm assuming that if the Flames are retooling then Andersson wouldn't be available.
Would Andersson's player comparable be Shea Theodore? If not what would you say his comparable would be?
If the Flames are rebuilding and a team offered Lane Hutson, Justin Baron, Winnipeg's 2024 1st and the Flames 2025 1st. Would that offer be more in the ballpark to get Andersson?</div></div>
So in order
1. No he's not available for anything less than a big overpayment (more than what Chychrun got). We only have 1 other legitimate top 4 defenseman signed for next season
2. A bit of both. LA/Dallas style rebuild. They won't tear it down to the ground because they can't. Guys like Coronato, Zary, Pelletier, and Wolf are NHL now. On top of that Kadri and Huberdeau are pretty much unmovable contracts and the team needs to at least try to compete before age makes them useless.
3. Theodore is a solid comparable, he's an offensive defenseman that is serviceable defensively. He hasn't had a great season though since apparently he's still recovering from the car crash last year.
4. Montreal is almost certainly getting the Florida 1st in 2025 so I'm really not sure that offer is better

I don't think Andersson is available, he seems to like it here and I think he will be our next captain. How ever if Montreal offered that I'd definitely take it.

If you use Debrincat as a comparable it would be more like the 2024 1st (top 10 pick) plus a 2nd and a 3rd. No need to include Barron.

semi-fair Crosby trade for delusional Habs fans
IF Sid the Kid gets traded it would be something like the LA Kings to Blues trade for Gretzky (The greatest of all time)
On Feb. 27, 1996, the Blues acquired Wayne Gretzky from the Los Angeles Kings. In the trade, the Blues sent a fifth-round pick in 1996, a first-round pick in 1997, Craig Johnson, Patrice Tardif and Roman Vopat to the Kings.
That equates to Jesse Ylonen, Joel Armia, Lias Andersson, 1st and 5th rd picks for Sid the Kid

He was on pace for 0.25 PPG last season. Based on what I saw in preseason, he's better this year than last year and also playing more minutes since he is picking his battles for when to fight. Expecting him to play a full season and to improve his output by 8 points is not crazy...

The Canadiens side of the deal makes a lot more sense with the news that they plan to market Petry with additional retention. Odds are, there was no market for him at his full salary, and Pittsburgh wasn't willing to retain enough to move him.

This is obviously not on Dubas, but rather on Hextall, but all the same: the two Petry trades are, taken together, a massive loss for Pittsburgh. Montreal got assets for Petry (+ a guy that Pittsburgh opted not to re-sign), then got paid to take him back with partial salary retention so that they can (probably) trade him again for more assets.

I'm not happy to see Petry back in Mtl.
I don't want him to play and take time away from others. Unless having him allows us to play Guhle on the Left side and other youngsters don't lose out, I think having him back is bad.

Some cap dump that could be interesting

I don't understand the reasoning beyond something about it giving the Habs more cap flexibility if he starts the season on the IR for x number of games and then slides over to LTIR after the start of the season.
If the Athletic is correct with this report then we won't have the ability to take on any cap dumps
However if Hughes feels taking on 1 of these cap dumps is better than cap flexibility than it could happen.
Hughes has a game plan and I just hope he makes the right choices</div></div>
I would prefer just to get another Monahan than get complicated

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>corson</b></div><div>At the trade deadline a retention spot is usually worth a 3rd so this means that the Habs traded Eddy for a 7th.
I think he is worth more than a 7th if he is recovered from his back injury.
So this is a loss for Montreal
But I understand why they did it --- they wanted to open a spot in the line-up for Xhekaj</div></div>
The difference being is that Mtl can move on with their new leadership group and didn’t need to pay to do it. I I saw a lot of ACGMs with a 4th or 5th to move on from Eddy which was also my argument that being a broker for said retained money was the same. A 3rd is best case scenario for salary retention. You take that and move on with a clean slate. There is no loss for Hughes and the Habs here. Eddy wasn’t this terrible hockey player because of his injury issues he was an unknown commodity and the Habs need to start moving bodies just like the Preds have done except Hughes actually got assets back here. Hoffman/Armia must be next.,

Michkov is the guy that will be there. He’s not Bedard, but he’s real good. Wonder if the Habs will pick him. They should. We’ll see Wednesday.
