<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>We thought we'd never see it again...

but "Mike Reilly for a 3rd" trades are <em><strong>BACK</strong></em>, baby!!

Isles accept, I would think. Aho or Bolduc can just get sheltered in that LD3 slot, or they can bring in another 6/7th type for a late round pick.

Ned at 3rd round value feels a little spicy - I don't think there are many legit contenders looking for goalie help (out of the teams currently in playoff position, I think maybe the Flyers, Kings or Leafs would be looking but that's it - in the east, Boston/Tampa/Florida/NYR/Canes are set, and the Wings probably wouldn't be itching to bring Ned back in; out west, Dallas/Winnipeg/Nashville/Vegas/Vancouver are set, &amp; Edmonton doesn't have the space) so you might be able to push down to a 4th here, maybe throw conditions on it that turn it into a 3rd if Ned plays 50.1% of the playoffs or something like that.</div></div>

It was surprisingly hard for me to find a good 3LD trade target besides Reilly. There are a lot of RDs reportedly available but on LD its pretty bare aside from the high end guys like Hanifin and Chychrun. Theres Edmundson but he has 0 skating ability

Ned for a 4th would be even better. PIT apparently wants prospects instead of picks for Guentzel so I wasnt sure if they would prefer the same for Ned. Id be ok with the 4th -&gt; conditional 3rd but they would have to wait until 2025 (or 2026 in this case if the 2025 pick is going to NYI). If they want a prospect instead thats fine too as long as its nothing crazy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>welcome to CF!

-Chicago probably takes a 4th for Beau with 50% retention; I think if you're bringing him back in I'd put him on a line with guys he knows and hope that jolts him back to being a useful forward again.

-Fair value for Reilly, IMO, destination can be anywhere. You'd also have enough room to eat some of his deal if you're moving him (based on the potential retention in your other deals) so I'd do that and open his market up a little more.

-I would want a lower price on Duclair - I like him as a player but I think you're bringing him based on his potential and not his current production, and I'd want the price to reflect that.

-Ottawa passes easily here. I think there's some mild interest in a JGP reunion, but they would -need- full retenion; Aho &amp; Wahlstrom probably have the same value as mid-round picks at this point in their career, and I'd argue that not including a single 1st round pick won't get you either Chychrun or Pinto, much less both.</div></div>

Fair enough! Granted this is all a dream scenario with some tinkering, but I want the Isles to get younger and faster. Though Beau and Duclair are almost 30 - they make this team quicker and could be had on the cheap. Pinto just makes for a good story - he's a good, young player, but would be the local kid coming to play on the Island. I honestly didn't even realize how young Chychrun is. I keep reading that Lou is interested in Tarasenko and I can't wrap my head around why. Either way, it was fun palying Armchair GM!! LGI!!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>I don't love being a "blame the coach" kinda guy but JGP and Wahlstrom's numbers have been done in by some seriously questionable coaching decisions, which is why I think if they moved to another team they would see a bump up in their production - provided the next team doesn't make the same mistakes Lane Lambert (and, to an extent, Barry Trotz) made with these guys.

Wahlstrom is an offense-first player, always has and always will be. The problem is, he spends just as much time playing on defensive-minded lines as he has on offensive-minded ones - since the beginning of 2021-22, his time spent skating with Mat Barzal and JG Pageau at 5v5 is almost identical (539:49 vs. 519:27 in 139 GP - and, predictably, he does better with Barzal. Skating with Barzal, his possession numbers are more or less even and the team gets 61.1% of the goals scored; with Pageau, he gets about 43% of the chances and GF% is 51.2. They've really tried to take his square peg and put it in a round hole over and over again and wonder why he hasn't panned out. I also throw a little of the blame on Barry Trotz, because in Trotz's last year the team was wellll out of it by the end of the season - perfect time to give a young kid some run and let him develop. But for some reason, after going 10-9-19 in 13:23 per night through the all-star break that year, he then spent the last 33 games of the year getting only 10:27 per night in the bottom 6 and going 3-2-5 in that time. He's a perfect change of scenery candidate.

Pageau, meanwhile, is suffering from his reputation as a strong faceoff guy and awful deployment. Under Trotz, he averaged about a 44/56 o-zone/d-zone start split and his possession numbers were not great but livable (usually 47% CF). The last 2 years under Lambert he's seen his d-zone starts jump 63% and now 71% this year - combined with the neverending parade of defense injuries behind him, and I'd say it's a miracle he still kept his CF around 47% last year and not at all a surprise that he's down to 38% this year. There's definitely some decline happening in there, sure - but I think with more judicious usage you'll see him actually looking more like his old self again.

I think the trade is an interesting value - Wahlstrom has more upside than Kastelic so i'd say he's marginally more valuable; I think Joseph is more valuable than JGP which is why I threw retention in. I also think the fits work well for both teams - moving Joseph and presumably one of Tarasenko/Kubalik gives you the roster spots to give ice time to the bevy of young wingers in Belleville (and Wahlstrom), and Kastelic is redundant if you bring JGP in. Personally, I don't mind adding a modest sweetener to the Islanders side, whether in the form of more retention or another asset, but I think it's a deal that can benefit both teams this year and next.</div></div>

I appreciate the thought in this post and a lot of your points are valid, however Joseph has been our most reliable forward this year and at $3M went from a cap dump to a contract steal. Ottawa looking to add players like Pageau for the bottom 6, but his price tag is just too high and moving a younger Joseph with cup experience for an older, more expensive and worse vet just doesn't align with what Ottawa is looking to do. They want to add vets, not downgrade on the few we have now.

Wahlstrom does have more upside than Kasty, but Katelic's style is much better suited for a 4th line role which is what both players will be for their careers. I will take the big strong right handed C over the skilled 4th line winger, respectfully.

I don't dislike the prospect of adding JGP back into the mix, I think he has some attributes that we need. For me it's simple; I would rather bank on the cheaper younger player continuing his strong play than I would bet on the older more expensive player regaining form. We need good wingers equally as much as we do a depth vet forward so it makes the choice between the 2 pretty easy for me.

Wahlstrom is probably better than Kastelic to be fair, but Kastelic sucks so I'm not too worried about the upgrade there. I would be interested in adding JGP to the mix in the offseason for something expendable, but MJ has been so good this year I wouldn't want to part with him unless its in a bigger move for a more impactful piece
