Tampa gets a decent middle six winger.

San Jose gets a disbarred lawyer will who sue video game developers.

Even trade.

Grier didn't get fleeced! Its a fair deal for both sides, Duclair will be excellent with Kucherov

What are the Lighting doing buying when the can’t beat the scraps left on Calgary. And to give up their best D prospect makes it that much worse. JBB is lost.

God awful!! Sometimes the trade you don't make is the best one. This would be a perfect example of that.

San Jose basically turned Lorentz + a 2025 5th + a 2025 7th into Thompson + a 2024 3rd.

And if Tampa doesn't make the playoffs, then this trade will turn out to be a pointless endeavour because Duclair will sign an extension elsewhere.

San Jose wins.

No retention makes this a tidy bit of business by Grier.

And Duclairs vocal about the option of returning to SJ in the offseason as a UFA after being traded if he doesn’t find a deal with his “new team”.

Great work by MG.

Nothing against Duclair...but Tampas defense is what needs help, especially with Sergachev out. No salary retention? is surprising. SJ gets a good defensive prospect and a pick, pretty good haul.

They absolutely do. He's been great in the locker room, good in the community, and good on the ice. He had a couple of games where he was rightfully scratched for low effort, but I imagine it can be tough losing night in and night out.

I do question if he'll actually re-sign here in the offseason, but mostly because players are often complimentary on their way out but rarely re-sign.

There are literally no downsides to Duclair returning if his term is below 5 years and his aav is below 4.5

That’s a very good return for SJS, especially with no retention

he's been benched in multiple teams all for the same reason. It's not because it's "hard to lose" it's because it's all about him. No defense, drift around the blue line.... give me the break out pass, i just want to be the hero and pad my stats......

He has no business on an NHL because that's really who he is. SJS shouldn't bring him back.

Tampa Bay still had a draft pick?

I think I like this for both teams. Tampa Bay doesn't have the forward depth they were famous for in their cup years, and it's a great return for San Jose without using their final retention slot, in case they need to use it in another deal tomorrow.

I cant wait for the JBB presser where he talks about "how much harder we are going to be to play against now". Like actually **** off, you threw in our best d prospect just because you felt like it

You sound like Jack Thompson burner account.

Never has anyone been so outraged to loose a 3rd rounder.

the round a player was drafted in only means something until they play their first game after the draft. Here is an article that was written about him over the AHL ASG: https://theahl.com/crunch-pleased-with-all-star-thompsons-progress

he was going to develop into a very good Top 4 RD and we gave him away for nothing

"His skating is just OK, though, and given that he's average-sized, whether he can defend at the NHL level is a question mark. He has a chance to play in the NHL but is no sure thing." The Athetic, an hour ago.

when was the report written? Also I could care less what one scout thinks. The big thing scouts said about brayden point was they didnt think his skating would be good enough to make it to the NHL too
