Devils realistic 2020 roster
Just going to point some things out for you. Gustav Nyquist had a career year this year with 60 points in 81 games. His current cap hit is 4.75 mil with Detroit retaining 1.425 mil; leaving the sharks with a 3.325 mil cap hit. His total salary is 5.5 mil this year. With all that I would expect his contract to be 6 mil for 6 years as a starting point. I'm not trying to poke fun just trying to share useful knowledge to a fellow ACGM. With all that said I do like that you chose not to sign any of the big UFAs, I feel any team that signs them will likely regret it down the road. I would go for the 6 to 7 mil players though like Gustav.

4th is closer. Yes Nylander had a down year but Neal has a worse one. And Nylander has a better shot at bouncing back and being better long term. There's enough reason to believe that Neal is regressing due to age. Nylander was rough this year because of all the time he missed

Let the objections begin Avs and Devs Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drew1871</b></div><div>No desire for EK, he is not good defensively and his contract will blow in the back half. You aren't wrong about the blueline on the Devils, but trading Hall for the 4th pick is not solving the blue line issue. If I am Shero, I am on the phone with the Jets about Trouba and any team in Cap hell.</div></div>
4th pick gets you Byram. He's not ready year 1, but he could/ should be a D1, at least a strong D2, with PP / special team skills ... but sure, there would need to be more, like a 3rd rounder + maybe a roster guy or a prospect.
And I agree with you on EK. Not my cup of tea for the $$$, but I based that comment on the previous post on the direction they could go in. To stand pat with Hall, someone suggested spending money to upgrade the roster & from what I see, outside of EK, there are few FA options out there that (I believe) would upgrade the D & mean the Devs go for it with the current group. If they get EK (for better or worse), that may give them shot at signing Hall, otherwise, I dont see him staying.

Would New Jersey accept something like this

Zacha is a bust, Carrick is worse than Holl and Santini is barely upgrade over Zaitsev. Just scrap the NHL then, everybody is a problem..
Kadri is worth more than that package alone.

However, this team is ready to turn the corner with the lotto hit again. Shero already indicated it's about time to spend money.</div></div>
Defense is terrible and outside of Ty Smith, the D prospect pool is limited to 3rd pair options. Unless they get Karlsson (unlikely), there is no where to spend their way out of the core problem (pls dont say Myers). Sure, they can turn the corner with Hughes et al, but they cant compete with the depth of the top teams. Mid tier hell awaits ... but if they get Karlsson, sure, keeping Hall makes sense. However, I agree with you, doubt Devs make this move, but trading Hall at deadline wont get the same return, as no 2020 high pick team has the same desire/need to make that trade, so in the end, Devs will get less or lose him. This trade would take ownership support, conviction for rebuild and rather large stones.

Money is probably fine but the term is bad and he doesnt fit.. he is insanely good player but healthwise barely holds together now. And the way he plays game he doesnt fit. NJ already has number of defensively unreliable defencemen, EK is one of them. I would not be touching him in summer if I was NJ.

Pettersson, Horvat and a 1st is a huge overpayment for acquiring Jack Hughes. However now that I think about it, you really need to <strong>hardcore overpay</strong> to get 1st overall pick in Jack Hughes. I remembered the Flyers had to overpay to get Eric Lindros. Philly gave up....
1. <strong>Peter Forsberg</strong>
2. Ron Hextall
3. $15,000,000 CASH
4. Two 1st round picks
5. Couple established players
Also, some of those assets were used by Avalanche/Nordiques as key assets in the <strong>Patrick Roy trade</strong>
I'm not saying Jack Hughes is Eric Lindros 2.0. An additional note is the Quebec/Colorado got all these assets for a <strong>player that publicly expressed in disinterest in playing for Nordiques/Avalanche</strong>

Rangers are fine at #2. Leave the pressure on the Devils to make the 1st pick. Whichever way they go, the Rangers will be more than happy with the other selection. No reason to lose our other 1st Rounder when we are already set to get one of the 2 best players available.

Think Jack Hughes will be turning 18 in may, Stammer just turned 29.. that's 11 years difference, and NJ's time to compete isn't for a few years.. stamkos will be over 30 by then and Hughes will be maybe 22.. possibly younger.. Not worth the 11 year difference even with Stamkos being the proven player.

So if Kadri gets 5 or more
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>It's going to be at least 5 since he was offered an in person hearing for it. That's how the league works. It was dirty yes. But if the league says that "1 player game equals 2 regular season games" then 5 is extremely harsh, even for a repeat offender. That means in the season, it's a 10 game suspension? The league is a joke and works like that. It should be 3 (or 6 "regular season games") but since he got 3 last years playoffs and a repeat offender is within 18 months, it's going to be more. It's terrible when the entire situation coulda been avoided.
Let's get this out of the way. The Bruins were the better team in the first period and skated all over the Leafs and that's where they won the game. But that officiating is the worst I've ever seen. Debrusk was running around being a goon all game and if they woulda called something on him (interference on Hyman within a couple minutes of the start, the extra rough on Kadri when they both got minors, the knee on knee which shouldn't be suspendable but is still worth a 2 minute minor, the elbow to Dermott's face) then none of this woulda happened cause the Leafs woulda been happy with Debrusk going to the box and getting the PP. The refs let this game get outta hand. They didn't call things both ways. Tavares shoulda had a clear goalie interference on Rask, wasn't called. It's a joke. The league is a joke. Kadri made his mistake and he'll get disciplined for it and have to answer for it. But will the refs? Will they have to talk to the media about it? Will they have to have someone fight them when they return to "stand up for what they did"? Will they get disciplined by the league for it? No. & that's where the problem is. The fact that the playoff rules are COMPLETLEY different from the regular season is a joke. The NHL is a joke league.</div></div>
I agree with all of this. And would only add that George Parros being in charge of Player Safety, an ex goon and a knuckle dragger who owns a line of hockey clothing called Violent Gentlemen that uses a branding line of "Make Hockey Violent Again," only confirms what a joke the league has become.

Boneheaded play by Kadri. He'll get dinged for a few and he should. Drop the gloves if you feel the need, the NHL allows that.... but a crosscheck to the face?
That said, the refs better find their whistles again and do their job or this series could quickly get out of hand.
