New York Islanders signed Ilya Sorokin (1 Year / $2,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsFan9</b></div><div>Is this an ELC? Because he’s an RFA when it expires</div></div>
He signed a 1 year ELC that expires after this season, so this is pretty much a bridge contract. Makes the most sense to give him money right away as incentive to come over to North America.

2020 and future
It would be a tough decision for CHI, but I think they do it. They like Barret alot, but you're correct that getting a young goalie would help. Jarry could tandem with Crow for two more years until Jarry's ready to take over. The hardest part (which has nothing to do with value, but does have real life consequences) is that Barrett could have opted for his senior year and then picked his destination...now Bowman signs and trades him without 1 game in the system.
Do you think Barrett would fit in PITs system though?

I'm pretty sure Fedotov has signed an extension to stay in the KHL through the end of the 2022 season, so there is no bringing him over soon.
Looking at he trade, we own his rights indefinitely. I don't see the upside of trading those now for a late round pick.

Exactly what I was going to say. This is essentially saying "We have a cap problem, so lets move (probably somewhere around) $6 mil out, and take $5ish back in." Doesn't make sense for a team with the issues that the Isles are going to have. If Pulock is getting moved, it's gotta be for ELC's and/or picks.

Unfortunately from what I've read, he's ineligible to play this year.
The signing is more to be able to keep him around the team and practice w/ them.
Sucks to burn year 1 of his ELC, but during the pandemic it was the best decision to keep him around high level professional hockey

Johnson, Joseph for Nemeth
This doesn't help the Penguins. After stupidly gaining up Addison, Joseph is the only defense prospect worth a dang. Marino and Pettersson are young, but Letang isnt.
Throwing away Joseph to move Johnson is folly.
Plus, the coaches like Johnson. People need to accept that and move on. Sure, $3.25M for him is $1M too much, but you dont throw away your only D prospect to move that. It's simply not necessary (to move him).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I can't help but laugh at you when you are clutching onto Galchenyuk as "help"</div></div>
That's what you took away from everything I've said? Not that we need a top 6 C and will likely use Brodin or Dumba to make that happen? Not that we shouldn't be giving up assets for a player that doesn't really help us?
I can't blame you for your opinion on Galchenyuk, seems like you're a Pens fan and he looked horrendous in Pittsburgh. Once he was traded to the Wild he looked much better, and I think it was because he fit our system better. He's definitely not the top 6 center we need, but like I said before he will most likely be our last resort option if we can't land the top 6 C that we need in a trade instead of moving picks (even if they're late picks) for a bottom 6 C like Bjugstad. Not to mention he'll almost certainly be cheaper than Bjugstad, I can't imagine Galchenyuk gets more than $2M on a 1 year prove it deal.
Also, if Guerin really wanted Bjugstad, don't you think he would have pushed for him instead of Galchenyuk when we made the Zucker trade?

And if you see this happening at TDL it's not even a year.
The buyout cost is the same as playing him a year. so it's a wash.</div></div>
That's nearly $1mil of dead cap space for 4 years after the first season... I just don't understand why we would do that when we could take on contracts that only last one or two years, and just let them expire before we need to resign any major contracts.

Yea Carolina isnt trading an expansion exempt, soon to be better than RNH player in Necas, needless to say to a division rival.
On top of that we are supposed to send Cotton (who we had to sign his brother to get him to come here), our best RH forward, and a LHD for another depth LHD and a center that will be a UFA in 2 years. Awful just awful.

What is wrong with Hainsey? He is steady, cheap, eats minutes and kills penalties, which is all you need/want from a third pairing D-man. He was plus 12 on a team with a -50 goal differential last year and that is with a majority of defensive zone starts. Riikola is good in a sheltered role (which he would have) with good advanced stats and the top four would eat most of the minutes anyway.

Thing is at least there was more depth on the right side so it meant one stayed(JJ) while the other one was sent packing.</div></div>
He's taken three shots in his first period with the Ducks (playing on the #1 pair with Lindholm), levelled Gabriel Landeskog with a great check and goaded the Avs captain into taking a retaliatory penalty carrying over into the second, and been on the ice for both Anaheim goals. He's already earned his keep in my eyes.
