With MTL against the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Burnout</b></div><div>Is it? Montreal can make that contract work without making another move.
Even if you ignore the guys that are likely headed to LTIR, they still show Drouin on IR, but he should be healthy to start the season. Signing Dach to that contract lets Montreal move contracts down to make the cap work. Montreal played this game all of last year even accounting for Weber, this isn't new territory for them.
That also doesn't get into how... unadvisable... it would be for a team in Minnesota's specific position to invite retaliatory offersheets.</div></div>
Yeah - the retaliatory offer sheets would be, well, not ideal, unless they were to have an extension in place for Boldy prior to doing so.

With MTL against the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Montreal can match anything under 3.6 mil. We currently have 200k cap space and Byron's 3.4 mil will go on LTIR to start the season since he is expected to miss half the season. Therefore if you want Dach you are going to have to go over at least 3.75 mil. Also if you did and we really wanted to keep him we could waive pitlick and send him to Laval, if he gets claimed not a huge loss if not we open another 1.25 mil so you might have to go as high as 5 mil and that is without any trades.</div></div>
Which for the Wild, would not make sense, as they cannot afford him at $5M per after this year unless they unload another expensive player next year, would also open them up to offer sheet retaliation with Boldy and Rossi over the coming years.

Yeah, obviously very unrealistic, but if a GM wanted to get MTL moving on their cap situation, this is a way to do it.

Wasnt sure of exact value on zuccarello, based off his play style, I would think that this is sustainable at least 2 more years. If age weren't a consideration, just point production, his price tag is 2-3x this imo

If the first rounder for caufield would be top 10 protected, I feel as though theres a lot of teams that would give a first no protection and a 2nd in 23 for him.

Chytil
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>This was all debunked. The cap does not rise by his cap hit. Give this a read: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/32-thoughts-taking-a-look-around-the-nhl-trade-market/</div></div>
So basically what that says is if someone gets hurt, and you put them on IR you dont get the relief of it accruing forward, however you do get the ability to have a cap hit increase. So its a gamble, and they do have the space to activate him THIS year, I don't think they would next. With the allowable 10% over the cap in the off-season, they would be able to hold him. Its all just a risk, especially with dumba, who makes $6M and is hurt all the time.

Chytil
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>Absolutely not arguing that Chytil isn't worth his contract. My point is just that using futures to acquire him makes our cap issues a lot more difficult to overcome.
Never understood the Weber thing, acquiring him does not give us more cap flexibility. If anyone trades for him, it will be a team looking to hit the cap floor and pay less real $ to get there (like Arizona).</div></div>
If you aquire him, the upper cap limit increases by his cap hit, I believe, Russo wrote an article related to it less than a month ago, dont remember exactly when, might have been the fiala article. I do not fully understand it, and it might not be $ for $ that you get back, maybe the difference between cap hit and actual cash you get back on the upper limit?
This article does a good job explaining how it works, https://couchguysports.com/the-nhl-ltir-explained/

$2.3M for a C that could be *very very* good, or at the bare minimum is better than what is currently there isnt terrible, but yes, all depends on what the further moves are, do they trade dumba/talbot/fiala, do they make a move for LTIR $ (shea weber), will be interesting to see where things go.

Now here is a horrid hot take. If Guerin were to run a team like that, he would not be in the place he is in. Giving away a player with value for free is one of the worst asset management hypotheticals I have ever heard of.
