Only way leafs could afford Chychrun which makes trade unlikely

Because why not? Everbody knows Toronto cant afford Chychrun. Even when you put the best pieces together to trade to make the trade anywhere remotely “fair”, the leafs will be left without a pot to piss in.
Ideally, Arizona is gonna want a) a player who can play NOW. b) a prospect who can play NOW or by next year, and c) high draft picks.
So lets put that together shall we...
Justin Holl, most likely to be in the trade. Playing like trash and needs to go. Nick Ritchie, big.. but thats it. Nick Robertson. Kid got amazing talent and potential, would immediately get a top 6 role next season. 1st round draft or 2nd round draft pick goes to ARI as well, cause they need picks and thats their ask.
Now... do the calculating and tell me if the leafs afford it.

ANY trade the leafs offer to Arizona will be complete hot garbage. They cant afford it.

No hes not. What he means by “Eichel Package” is the amount of assests returning. In the Eichel deal, there was 4 assests, which included a player that could slot into the lineup now, a prospect would could slot into the lineup now or the following season, and 2 high round draft picks, ideally a 1st round and 2nd round pick. A lot of hickey insiders have reported that if a Chychrun trade were to happen, that a trade structured like the Eichel trade would be the most likely scenario

Kempe and Mayfield
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>The value in the LA trade is fine, but aside from the 1st there's not much there that LA wants.
A first round pick is nice, but the Kings are coming out of their rebuild and are looking to compete sooner rather than later. A late 1st round pick isn't going to be NHL ready until 2024-25 at the absolute earliest. I can't see them targeting that pick as the main return for Kempe.
LA needs top six wingers and quality LHD that can help them sooner rather than later. The Kings have 0 interest in Holl (RHD is arguably the Kings' deepest position), and SDA doesn't do much for them, as they're already overloaded with bottom six forwards (especially centers). Abramov could potentially turn into a nice piece, but he's likely going to need several years of AHL development before he's NHL ready.
Kempe, on the other hand, is currently filling in at top line winger because of LA's shortage of NHL ready wings. The other area of need is LHD. I could see a trade built around a return of Robertson or Sandin, but aside from that, I don't see any situation where LA would be willing to trade Kempe to Toronto this year.</div></div>
Hmmm, I thought someone told me that RD was LA's problem, hence why I put Holl in the trade

Kempe and Mayfield
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Not bad,
the NASH trade is interesting and could work.
the LA trade is at least value from TOR, a high prospect, a 1st, a midlevel prospect, a quality 3rd pairing RD maybe a tad too much? But at least its too much from TOR for a change
I doubt DET wants UFA to be Engvall and certainly not for a 5th. Engvall is an good 4th liner, but hes going to be a 27 yr old UFA, looking for 1.25mil or more, I just dont think to a non playoff team he has value
Mayfield is a cheap RD signed for peanuts for 2 years and I think he has more value (Biega has none, a 6th rounder a yr away adds nothing and I think its a higher prospect or a 3rd rounder)</div></div>
I wasn't too sure on what would be the best swap for Kempe, but I knew that LA has been on the lookout for a RD, and Holl can be expendable(ish). Maybe take away one of the prospects (Abramov most likely bc SDA got way more value than Abramov) and the deal would be just right?
As for engvall, I only got DET in there because they have cap. I don't necessarily think TOR will trade Engvall to a team within their division, especially when they're on the bubble for making the playoffs. Just wasn't sure which team would be the best fit. Either way, worst comes to worst, you can just send Engvall to the minors, and hope he doesn't get claimed. But, I'd rather trade him if you plan on taking him out of the lineup because if someone does claim him, we then lose him for nothing.
On Mayfield, well... he's reliable, something Justin Holl isn't. Lily has looked good with Muzzin, which has made Muzzin more confident when out there on the ice. Muzzin seemed to be doing most of the work when playing with Holl, which probably explains Muzzins lack of performance as he's pretty much burnt out. Lily allows Muzzin to relax a little, which I think creates a perfect 2nd pair behind Rielly and Brodie. With Mayfield though, he's a very good shutdown guy, and maybe having him paired with Sandin would benefit Sandin's game. From what I seen, Sandin is smart, and loves moving the puck, and both him and Lily on the 3rd pair are terrific together. Having Mayfield in the lineup can give you much-needed flexibility on how to create your lineup, as you can make your 2nd pair a strict shutdown pair with Muzz and Mayfield, or balance all three lines, like this:
Idea 1 - 2nd Pair Shutdown
Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Mayfield
Sandin - Liljegren
Dermott
Idea 2 - Balanced
Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Liljegren
Sandin - Mayfield
Dermott

Lafreniere Has Not Taken Enough Initiative Since Arriving
I think Laf needs to be in a top 6 role. Not because he's this highly touted prospect, but because he has a scoring touch to his game that made him a sought-after 1st overall draft choice. Hes a big strong frame, and I can bet you my entire life savings that in 5 years time, he'd become the scariest player to ever go up against because you know that not only is he going to score, but he's gonna run you over in the process. The Coaches are not realizing his offensive upside, but rather seeing him as a shutdown-only player.
And here's where I may stir some controversy, but I think Laf is not a fit in NYR. NYR was pretty lucky to receive the 1st overall pick back in 2020 after the pause and play-in playoffs, but in reality, they didn't need a player like Laf when you already got Kreider and Panarin on the LW, and now Goodrow (Goodrow is fully capable of playing the 3rd line, he did it in Tampa with Gourde and Coleman).
If things don't turn around soon, then expect NYR to make a splash. He has a lot of value, and just about every team in the league will be knocking at the door to inquire Laf. The Rangers have a good group up front. IMO if there's a way that NYR can bring in a top 2/top 4 defender (yes, I do know that K'andre Miller is on the team), ideally to play with Fox, then NYR will be contending for a LONG time.

WHADDYA AT BYYYY? lol
But no seriously, you are right. With players like Robertson, Ritchie, Ho-Sang, Bunting, Kampf and Kase.. there isn't much need with adding a top 6 guy to the group as a rental. If (and I hope he stays for the appropriate price) Rielly leaves this offseason, then the leafs need to focus not on finding a replacement for Rielly, but rather find very good 3rd pairing defenceman. The way I see it, Sandin and Lily will make the jump into the top 4 along with Muzzin and Brodie, and then you use the $5M from Riellys contract, trade Holls $2M and Dermott's $1.5M (leaves you with 8.5 in cap space) and find two very good dependable and reliable shut down defenceman that play on your 3rd pair. That way, there is less pressure on Muzzin and Brodie, and you get a wide variety of options. Heres what I'd like to see in 2022-23 if there's no Rielly:
Sandin - Brodie
Muzzin - Lilijegren
Ian Cole - Jan Rutta

Yeah, as a leafs fan, I would have to say the price for Rust is gonna be fairly high. Also, you got to factor in that PIT could still be a playoff team, despite not having Crosby and Malkin in the lineup to begin the season, so PIT might want to hold onto Rust. If anything, TOR should focus on upgrading their bottom pairing defense group. Lily is pushing for Holl's spot on the 2nd pair with Muzzin and he ain't good elsewhere in the lineup, and Dermott's development has been somewhat "spotty" if you could say.

If another team is going to give you a cheap 2nd pair RHD for basically free, you take it and worry about the cap situation when it arises. Teams do it ALL THE TIME. Honestly, dude, I'd prefer a Heinen or ED over Engvall any day of the week. I wouldn't trade/send those guys down to make room for Engvall. And this coming from a Le\fs fan himself. Yall good or what? Lol. I made the trade to PIT for Engvall bc of PIT center situation (Crosby/Malkin out with injuries) so that was my thought process. Gardoki has a point with the LTIR, there is only so much space that the Pens get from Malkins contract. With that being said, Engvall’s contract is burialable, but if PIT has 121k in cap with Malkin OFF LTIR, then sending down Engvall still wouldnt work as 125k is still tacked on to the cap, meaning that PIT would be 4k over salary cap. So in this case, PIT cant do it. Arizona could be a destination, but i dont with their plan of stick piling picks, idk if they wabt to give up anything, even though they got like every teams second round pick in this tears upcoming draft LOL
