Everything I saw said Fitzy offered Holtz for Markstrom with some retention.
No 1st round pick</div></div>
I thought that was said on the episode of 32 Thoughts right after Markstrom to NJ didn't happen. I shouldn't say Fitz offered it since I am not in the room with any of these guys, but that's what I thought the offer was. Not familiar with Devils prospects to know if they have other 1st prospect equivalents (obviously not Nemec, Hughes) but I would think Markstrom would demand more than a 1st (pick or Holtz) and closer to a 1st + 1st value. Devils may still not make the trade but this would be considering NJ thinks if they get a goalie they could make a playoff push and the Flames have a shot at the wildcard in the west even after they trade away all their top players but if they trade Markstrom they would have no shot. Given that I think they would value Markstrom more than Anaheim values Gibson for example which would lead NJ to "overpay" on Markstrom value.

Tom Fitzgerald offered the 1st so I think it is very much in play. The issue was salary retention which is why Vanecek was added here.

Wings
I don't think the wings would trade Kostin, he brings a physical element nobody else on the team really matches. Need those players if you have playoff aspirations. I like Duclair but he is only has 19 points so I'm not sure he is really an upgrade over Fabbri. I like Ferraro over Maatta tho

Wings have about $12 mil in deadline cap space and don't even have anyone on IR so they got space. Armia would go straight to Grand Rapids so you could bury some of his contract. I know Anderson is overpaid but he's a pretty good middle 6 for the playoffs. I don't think MTL would let him go personally

Wings Contract Extensions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>I doubt that they just run it all back.</div></div>
I agree, I'm just saying I think this is what Detroit should be resigning them for and if it's more you are probably looking to trade that player. Sprong might get more than $2.5M but he only plays 12 min a night and scores but hes not being used as a top 6 winger, idk Kane, Perron, amd Ghost have all had relatively big years and could get more on the open market than I would want them to resign for.

If they could resign Tanev as well that would be a good trade both ways. What do you think Tanev extension looks like?? Luke Schenn plus $1Mil?

Who to resign
I think Fabbri has some value now vs last year, 13 goals in 39 games. Retain 50% for $2m next year and I would guess he gets a decent return for a VGK, EDM, VAN, LA, COL, maybe even Tampa if you want to go East too? 2nd and mid prospect for Fabbri at $2M next year I think could be reasonable.

Decisions Looming
Agree with your value assessment in the description leading to who to trade. I think there would be huge value retaining half on Maatta and moving him with teams so tight to the cap a top 6 D at $1.5 next year, not sure if it's a comp but McCabe (50%) and Lafferty got a 1st plus with TOR. Veleno, Maatta (50%) could get a pretty nice yield??

I like it, Ithink with this offer you could get ANA to retain maybe Gibson from $6.4M down to $5.5. Lyon is the #1 right now and Gibson is better competition than Husso for the job.

Campbell to Red Wings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Or, Edmonton <strong>don't</strong> trade him, <strong>keep</strong> the two firsts, and buy him out in the summer.
When last I looked, they were doing pretty nicely as is -- oddsmakers have them favorites to get to the conference finals. I don't think that Campbell is the burden outsiders think that he is.</div></div>
I think you're right and the only way they have to move on from Campbell this trade deadline is if they have something else lined up involving money in and the only way to make it work is dropping Campbell's contract. Like if they also trading Broberg for Tanev + but Calgary wouldn't take extra money back or something like that.

DET has lots of cap space and should weaponize it a little to get some value out of having cap space. You send Campbell to the AHL (will go unclaimed) so you get about $1mil back. Then the assets give you some extra trade chips. Reimer is gone after the year. Lyon and Husso both only have 1 year left and that's the NHL tandem. Campbell could be a decent goalie again even if he never lives up to the contract.

Seems way too early to give up on Jiricek but he hasn't been able to crack the line up and they already have Werenski, Bean if he can stay healthy and Boqvist on the right for PP time. Seems way too early to part with Jiricek but they would prob only part with him for someone with a lot of RFA years left.

Agreed. I think VAN is looking to add a top 6 forward and looking to part with Kuzmenko or Garland or both. Both players are signed for big money and have term remaining.

Columbus wants to move on from Merzlikins so retaining $2M would still be cheaper than his buy out. My only knock on this trade is DeAngelo. I don't think any other team in the league would take him in their locker room, idk how he has worked this well for brind amour.

DET Compete Now and Get Assets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>erh1991</b></div><div>even if we do this do we really compete now?</div></div>
I think this would give them a top D for the next 5 years at least since Hanafin is like 26 so that would be an upgrade to what they have plus it has term attached. Same idea with Crouse being an upgrade over Rasmussen with term attached.

Matthews to Coyotes at Draft
So for context, trade only works if Matthews says he doesn't want to resign in TOR (Tkachuk type trade), if that is the case then TOR wants Crouse (from Ontario so prob would accept trade), then TOR would have to accept the 4 1st round assets plus cap space to sign someone else in Free Agency. I couldn't figure out how to add Simashev and But so take your pick could be the players or the #6 and #12 picks in the draft if the trade happened before since that's when Matthews would have to make his decision. If Matthews is going home to ARI then Knies has to go home to ARI as well.
