No, he’s not bad. He finished top 10 in Calder voting just a year ago (yes, as a 25 year old). He had a rough start this year but started looking better before getting hurt. It’s an exaggeration, but so is saying L'Heureux is a C+ prospect.

Signed until he’s 35, but yes, like I mentioned, Necas had a great year scoring 0.87 ppg. I don’t know if you know this or not, but Forsberg only played 50 games this year and scored at a 0.84 ppg rate. Over the past three seasons, Forsberg has been nearly a point per game player. Necas is right around 0.71. It’s great and all to look at one year, but that doesn’t begin to tell the story between the two players.
That doesn’t even get into the gap between Saros and Kochetkov. The gap between those two is much greater than a late first.

I think DET could get a later rd pick (4th or 5th) in the Murray deal as well - Love the concept of that deal
Garland I could see being extremely undervalued in the trade market like Bjorkstrand last offseason, Prob a deal like that where DET lands an amazing two way wing in Garland at a cheap price</div></div>
Fabbro was pretty bad to start this year, but I think he was playing the best hockey I’ve seen him play by the end of the year when Josi (and others) were out. I doubt Nashville would sell low on him to move him right now considering he signed a one year extension a few months ago. This will be a big year for him.

How is 28 the wrong side of 30? How is Forsberg a “BIG downgrade” from Necas? Necas had a great year, but hasn’t had production like Forsberg any season prior to this season. Easy no for Nashville

Tkachuk is better than Marner, and he also signed an extension for 8 years when the trade took place. Nashville would get two years out of Marner for a top 5 goalie and their best forward. No thanks

2007 Toskala (1 year) - 1st, 2nd, 4th (with Mark Bell)
2007 Vokoun (4 years) - 1st, 2nd, 2nd
2007 Toivonen (ELC) - Soderberg
2006 Raycroft (RFA) - for top goalie prospect
2006 Cloutier (1 year) - 2nd, 3rd
2006 Luongo (RFA) - Bertuzzi, Allen, Auld
....none were traded for a top-line forward as well.
There is just no applicable comp for this sort of trade.</div></div>
I'm not arguing that the trade is lopsided in Nashville's favor, but the Vezina trophy winner you're referring to that was traded was making $7 million per year on a cap strapped team and was in his late 30s. It's not really a fair comparison in my opinion.
Kuemper would be a better comparable, but he was older with one year remaining and probably had no interest in re-signing in Arizona.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>Well they may not want to trade him but here are four reasons why they will.
1.) They aren't good. They needed a heroic effort from Saros to be close to playoff teams
2.) Their prospect pool is middle of the pack. They have a few big names but could use more.
3.) Askarov looks like he could be very good and would be a foundation for a rebuild.
4.) Saros' value has never been higher.
Two 1sts would only work if they are low 1sts. A goalie has never been traded for more than a single A prospect or 1st round pick. If Nashville is looking for 2 1sts + they will not find a partner.</div></div>
I think that’s what he’s saying. There’s no reason to trade Saros right now. He’s young enough and cheap. NSH most likely would’ve been a playoff team had it not been for the injuries this year. Saros is the main reason for that. You can make an argument that Nashville would be better off in the future trading him now. I’m not going to argue one way or the other for that. But I highly doubt Nashville is going to trade one of their best players just for the heck of it though. There’s no reason to trade him unless it’s an offer that can’t be refused. He could easily have 6 or 7 more solid years ahead of him.
I’m not saying he won’t be traded, but I would be surprised if Trotz is prioritizing finding a trade partner for Saros. It would have to be a big offer.

Ekholm: traded
Fabbro: played
Forsberg: injured

Highest goals saved above expected, depending on what model you look at (top three in all). .919 save percentage behind half a team of players who started/spent the majority of the season in the AHL. Vezina trophy finalist one year ago and probably should have been this year.
Your save percentage comment looks at one season in which Samsonov was playing behind a top 3 NHL roster while Saros was playing behind a bottom 10 roster. Look at their career stats and it’s not close
Of Nashville’s 18 skaters on opening night, 12 of them were either traded or hurt by the end of the season. The only reason Nashville was competing for a playoff spot the last week of the season was Saros.

Forsberg has had 1 NHL season over a PPG — his contract year. He had 42 points and 19 goals this year.
He isn’t in the same stratosphere as Marner.</div></div>
You have to mention how many games Forsberg played if you’re going to throw stats out like that. Your comment makes it seem like Forsberg got paid and fell off, which isn’t the case at all. You can’t just throw stuff out that fits your narrative. Do I think Forsberg is Marner? No, but let Forsberg play with JT, Matthews, and Nylander, and I would be willing to bet his numbers would greatly improve.
As for the trade, gotta think Nashville easily passes.

Most recent trade comparable for a young d like Addison was a 1st and 3rd, according to the athletic . So it would be a haul to get him from Minnesota.</div></div>
I don’t understand the narrative that McDonagh has been bad. He’s +17 on a team that’s -2. I’ve been fairly happy with him, and I wasn’t happy with the trade when it took place.

If Nashville is asking for two 1st round picks for Ekholm (probably a bit high), the price tag is going to be through the roof for Jeannot and Ekholm with retention. The only thing of value to NSH here is a first round pick that is two drafts away. A top five goalie in the NHL on a great deal is gonna cost more than that. Not to mention there’s a real possibility Buffalo makes the playoffs next year and that pick is around 20.
