Tampa cap solution
TB will likely move Miller and Callahan (they will likely retain half his salary), which will free up over 8 million against the cap. I can make a post and tag you in it if you'd like to see how it'd work, but I would assume that is their plan. Callahan has a 16 team trade list, so I am sure TB will find a team.

Marleau Retires a Shark
Due to his signing his contract after he turned 35 and it being prorated, if he retires the cap hit would all be on Toronto's balance sheet. In reality if he retired it would be the worst thing for Toronto.

Cap dump and getting space for rental and sign Point next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jshherman</b></div><div>Callahan is not waiving for that trade. I could see Arizona making the trade after the playoffs knowing he is going to retire and take the cap hit for some package. But that would only be if the Lightning win the cup. I don't think the Lightning need to / should make any large trades this year unless another team seriously loads up. But the Lightning need Sergachev's low cap hit next year and can find a way to get him some money after Callahan's contract comes off.</div></div>
Exactly, barring injuries you keep the team together this year. I don't understand all these trades looking to add scoring power, we have 4 lines that can put the puck in the net
. We remain under the cap and after the season it is time to deal with that.

Resigning
Point is gonna cost 7 mill minimum and no way Myers takes 5 mill, any other GM would offer him 6.5 to 7.25
Gourde is an exceptional player and is gonna cost a pretty penny as well.

Lol, giving the rebuilding rangers two 33 year old players with large cap hits and a young guy who will demand a massive cap hit next year for their best player, a decent winger and a 2nd??
Good luck with that

Problem is the money they would have to move is point. (or kucherov lol) After what you would need to give up for karlsson and then need to shed to sign him it’s just not happening. I think sens would also be intent on getting a 2019 1st and Tampa doesn’t have one to give up.

What Ottawa should really try to do
I imagine the other teams would all be in favor of these deals. Nashville may have an issue extending Stone although they would have options. As far as the Sens, tho, they would be better suited in the AHL.

Leafs 19/20 free agency signings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jshherman</b></div><div>What, no Tavares?</div></div>
lol trying to be somewhat realistic, I just think he is too loyal to the Islanders plus adding Lou and Trotz along with a group of good/very good young players/prospects around him. Barzal, Beauvillier, drafting Wahlstrom, Dobson along with a few really good players who seem to be right in their prime like Eberle, Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Brock Nelson. Lou will have to work his magic and get them a goalie and solidify their D core but i think he can convince JT that he will be able to do that.

If Bolts want JT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jshherman</b></div><div>That would not be the worst thing in my book. I believe the Lightning have other items they need to focus on investing in to round out the team. I think we do need a playmaker, but would like to look at someone like Toews (not Toews actually as he is declining) to replace Kucherov (goal scorer, not playmaker) when it comes time.</div></div>
Yep Yzerman would definitely need to unload on Callahan and probably Killorn to be able to afford Tavares even if he took the Stamkos deal at $8.5 million per, Plus be able to resign Kucherov next summer or this up and coming summer if Yzerman so chooses can't see Yzerman landing Tavares at long term without unloading some pieces.

Maybe?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jshherman</b></div><div>Lightning could do 8 yrs if there was the sign and trade done. I would see 9 AAV being the number of a comparable 10 AAV in other states, but I don't think Yzerman would pay more for Tavares than Hedman.</div></div>
There has been a report out there that a sign and trade isn't an option for NYI/Lou. He's already said either he's returning to NY or he's going to walk somewhere else. See below:
<a href="https://www.tsn.ca/lamoriello-rules-out-tavares-sign-and-trade-1.1119779" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.tsn.ca/lamoriello-rules-out-tavares-sign-and-trade-1.1119779</a>
If the Lightning want JT, Yzerman will 100% need to pay more for him than Hedman. Hedman took a discount to stay where he was, to play where he loved playing, and to sign for 8 years. JT will not have any of those same things going for him. There's zero chance of Tavares taking less than both Stamkos and Hedman to sign a shorter, cheaper deal for a new team.

TBL TRADE FOR KESSEL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>yes the Penguins are going to give up a 90 point player who has done nothing but score goals and win in Pittsburgh for TJ Miller.</div></div>
1.) Kessel won’t break 90+ points again. This season was a statistical anamoly for him. Especially if this little feud with him and Mike Sullivan continues. He’d be a 75-85 point player in TB and supercharge their power play.
2.) J.T. Miller is younger, can play wing and center, all the while, grow into a 70ish point player on a reasonable long term contract.
3.) Cal Foote is a phenomenal defensive prospect who could easily make the team and make trading Letang easier and more palatable.
4.) All in all, we still get more cap space to resign key free agents for the 19-20 season (ie guentzel and ZAR)
