I have to think another team would be willing to trade a low round pick for him, or maybe another prospect with a need for a change of scenery. The Isles have wasted his talent and Lou has no patience for kids like Ho-Sang

A team like the Devils can afford this gamble. If he plays well and elevates the team, it could be another incentive for Hall to stay

You always need good goaltending, but these types of goalie contracts rarely workout in the 2nd half. The good thing here though is that Vasi is only 25. Most of the top goalies getting these deals were in their very late 20's when they got their contracts

Finishing an Incredible Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rayjb159</b></div><div>Problem with Lias/Howden/Chytil is that they all need a season of solid minutes at center to see their potential but you can't see what they can really do if they are on the 4th line. Only two of them will get solid 2C/3C minutes which is why I figured you package one with a 2nd for Gusev who could be a scoring machine.
Same mentality with Lindgren as he will be buried on the depth chart unless a few people get hurt. So if losing him clears all of Smith's contract for the next two years, it might be worth it</div></div>
I agree on both points. Not that I would necessarily make the same trade, but if I had to trade 1 of our 3 young centers at this point, it would be Andersson.
As for Lindgren, with Skjei figuring to be here long term and assuming Miller reaches top-4 level, we have 1 spot on the left side undecided. Kids fighting for that job will be Lindgren/Hajek/Rykov/Reunanen/Robertson/etc. I can see Skjei being traded down the line if the kids start to outplay him, but that's still just 2 spots open on LD for all these promising kids. If I had to choose 1 young LD to be included in a trade, it'd be Lindgren.

As ridiculous as this is, I just need to point out all the draft picks you're giving up. 4 picks in rounds 1-3 over the next 3 years is a horrible position to be in for a rebuilding team...

I wouldn't want him. I don't think the Rangers would sign him either. He's a good vet, great leader, but doesn't fit our timeline. I'd rather use the cap space as a trade chip

I think in this situation they re-sign him. They miss out on Panarin and you can't bank on Hall next year. The Rangers will still need some veterans while the kids develop

Carolina got a 1st and 7th for taking on 1 year of Marleau at 6.25M, while giving up a 6th rounder.
In the proposed deal, the Rangers take on over 9M in year 1 and 6.5M in year 2. Instead of pennies, you're getting 2 future NHL regulars and a 3rd.
Gusev might be more of a sure thing than a 1st round pick, but we've seen Russians play well in the KHL and be busts in the NHL. I think this deal is pretty good for VGK

For taking on Reaves and 2 years of Stasny, I think the Rangers could give less. Maybe remove Lindgren and I'd do it.
If I were to recreate it though, I'd rather take Eakin or Haula, because they also only have a year left on their deals.

Toronto deal
Idk where you get this idea that Shattenkirk is the 7th Dman on the team. The only reason he's being shopped is to make room for kids so they can continue to develop.
Disregarding players with only a handful of games, Shatty had the 2nd best Corsi and Corsi rel on the Rangers last season. Braun was 2nd worst on the Sharks in both categories.
Watching almost every Rangers game, you could tell Shatty was quite unlucky this season. He deserved more points and a better +/-. Shatty is still a more than capable defenseman. At $6.65 he's not worth it, but he'd be very much worth 50% of that.

Potential Trades for the guys rumored out
So you think Vlad Namestnikov + a 5th is more valuable than Buch...
There's no reason to trade Buch right now. The 2nd half of last year he was really trending in the right direction. If you're iffy on him, give him a bridge deal and let him prove he can continue to get better, rather than selling low and letting another team reap the benefits.

Shattenkirk was often a healthy scratch on a pretty bad team....and making $6.7 mil from the press box.
Apples and oranges</div></div>
Shattenkirk played in 73 games. He wasn't often scratched. Also, he costs less than Braun at 50% retained.
Braun was by far the worst Dman on SJ, of those who played regularly.

Most teams will take that lottery pick. Otherwise, Shattenkirk has zero value.</div></div>
With the 2020 draft supposed to be really strong, the Rangers would be foolish to part with their pick just to dump Shatty. Retaining half his salary should be enough to get some kind of return for him without needing a significant sweetener. Certainly nothing close to what OP has though.
Also, that Kreider trade doesn't make COL significantly better. They're not going to trade well contributing roster players; futures and spare parts only.

I'd rather hang on to Georgiev for the season and see if he can improve his trade value. He's performed well so far behind our porous defense.
Also, we're just assuming Shesterkin is the heir to the throne. Maybe he comes over and struggles. Georgiev could be our future #1

Big move up for Rangers
If Kreider is going to EDM, you start the conversation with Puljujarvi and their 1st. Modify from there.
I'd rather have Tony D than Brown. DeAngelo is trending in the right direction. Could be a solid 40+ point Dman.
Remove the LAK trade.
Vesey probably gets a single 3rd from most teams. I'd rather use him to get Puljujarvi instead of a deal involving Kreider.
WPG deal is whatever. Maybe Beaulieu is a decent presence in Hartford.
I don't think CBJ gets rid of Anderson.

There's no way Pitt makes that trade. It just makes their D worse and we're not adding any incentive. They don't even have cap space for Staal even if we retained half his salary.
