Yes, but there is Waiver Eligibility enough for that. And it's hard to imagine operating NHL rosters without an AHL or some kind of reserve pool. Just speculating obviously. These things are very much unanswered. Leafs seem to have lots of flexibility with Engvall, Robertson, Sandin, Liljegren all being waiver exempt.

I'm imagining there will be some sort of 'taxi squad' allowances this year if there is no AHL, and there are existing 'emergency call-up' rules but i have no idea how they work. Sufficient to say that if a guy gets hurt it should really be no problem to insert a call-up. The issue i see is waiver exemption. We seem to be ok in that regard.

He's only got 39 games. Not much of a body of work. 1 year deal and let him prove himself.

Dont seethe sense in Sandin on 3rd pair to play 12 mins a game, he needs to play more meaning Marlies.[/quote]
By the sounds of it he's played himself onto the team. If even only for 9 games, and/or until Dermott is back.

Chaos? How do you figure? This isn't the second coming of Hasek, and most teams have their rosters set in terms of goaltending. I'm not even sure he's much better than Hutchinson, just 25K cheaper and that would allow us to add a scratch other than Holl (when Dermott, Hyman return).

I'd expect him to be on waivers seeing as they have Desmith and Murray.

Spezza seems destined for RW, with or without Marner on the team. Agree with you, Petan, Aberg and Schmaltz are iffy NHLers.</div></div>
I agree it's likely that they wait til January or February for Liljegren, but i'd really like to see what's there. Sink or swim in some sheltered third pair minutes. Let's see what we've got!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Unfortunately he can not play in the khl unless we terminate his contract. But that cap space could be useful to make a move for an rhd.
I think the idea is that they will try to trade him. If not that then try to find him a better role in the club. All else failing terminate his contract.</div></div>
Right, but terminating the contract seems highly unlikely. And this is what we could easily look like if we can't get a 'fair' value return. I don't think him leaving is a foregone conclusion.

What if we dont deal him away and he says screw this and goes to KHL?
Yes we off they hook long term, but we still need 6 d man to put on the ice, and we would be stuck with 3 million in salary for this year at minimum.
He has value, look at the reports, we can get something for him and either sign UFA or trade for D man in another trade</div></div>
Can't give away a RHD without getting equal value. If you can't get a return, you have to keep him. That's the premise here.

Possibly, but Muzzin/Zaitsev was fairly effective in the playoffs last year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brocklesnar</b></div><div>LMAO relax tough guy, just because nobody wants Leafs garbage you don't need to get so butt hurt, Zaitsev had one good productive year where Mike Babcock and his stupid reason to not play Rielly on the powerplay that year. Zaitsev as a rookie was terrible even strength and compiled a lot of powerplay points and played a premium position RHD and got a 7 year deal based on PP points. He is only useful when he plays in a sheltered role and that's how Babcock will continue to deploy him.</div></div>
Except that this year in the playoffs he played anything but a sheltered role. He and Muzzin ate tough minutes and he played just fine.

Fair exough. Destination isn't important to me. Shedding $ to fit Spurgeon in was the intention.
