OH MY LORD because Mikhail Granlund will push the needle for NSH to make the playoffs. Give me a break, you can get draft picks and a decent prospect for a guy who won't be resigned in the summer. You don't really get how asset management works do you.

Granlund is a UFA at the end of the year, and he isn't really producing much for the team. Nashville will be bounced in the first round for Tampa anyways.

Every fan base on here....."my team says no, but you can take my 30 point 3rd liner if you give me a good prospect and a 1st"
Every player on here is worth at least a 1st and a good prospect. Why? Because remember that time a desperate GM spent that on a player that is barely comparable to the player in question? That's why! All GM's have to make bad trades for my players!

Literally any trade involving the Leafs will result in people complaining about how much it favours the Leafs. You could trade Matthews for Henrique and someone will say TO adds because Matthews makes over 10 million. It doesn't matter if you overpay or not, idiots will troll.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Assuming Calgary does for a second, You could move Bennett to 3C and Marroon or Barabanov up to 3rd wing and put Thornton 4C. The bottom 6 looks nice and can be rotated a lot.
Calgary might consider this. Kerfoot puts up way more points than Bennett (this offseason as an exception). Plus they upgrade to a nice pick in this years draft. They may not be pumped on the retain, but it is only one year.</div></div>
We like Bennett’s effort on a nightly basis, he’s always working and plays hard, even if he doesn’t always get points. He’s also shown chemistry with Lucic so if he can make that situation any better that’s a plus for us, and Kerfoot isn’t that much better. Bennett is cheap and team controlled for a while (1 year until RFA) so I really doubt we’re gonna trade him. There’s also not a chance we retain, we have our own cap problems, we’re not gonna retain AND get the more expensive player lol

Miller is not good and has been sheltered. Not a god trade at all to Buffalo. In my mind, the team gets remarkably worse.</div></div>
The Freddie trade is 1 3rd that has the potential of upgrading to a 1st. It's an awful trade for the Leafs

There is no evidence that Dubas wanted Miller last summer. Healthy scratched multiple times over the last two seasons by two different coaches on two different teams. I would think that by now most people would understand that Miller's great advanced stats are only because he has always been astronomically sheltered and can't handle even moderate levels of QoC. I would be fine with having him on the first pair if the Leafs' were trying to finish last and win the lottery. Almost 4M AAV for the next two seasons for a guy who is a 3rd pairing/press box level player.

I was also confused by his comment... idk how you score at a 90ish point pace and are on a "downward swing". his account is 24 hours old so I assume hes trolling or banned already for being "intelligent"

Toronto
First off, I just want to say sorry for the long explanation. Secondly, before I explain everything, I want to say I think it's a fair trade. But here's why I would say no if I'm Bill Guerin:
I think Kerfoot's max potential is the 40 to 50 pt range. He's a decent center when on top of his game but not a great center.
I think if Jordan Greenway hits his potential, he'll be around the 50 to 60 pt range while dominating physically on the boards and down low. If he reaches his potential, he'll also dominate puck possession which will come in handy. All of this, of course, is a big if.
If we already had a true 1C for the future on our team and were in need of a middle 6 Center, I think we do this trade. But we have more middle 6 centers and are in need of a bonafide 1C. Therefore if Greenway left, I think it would be in a package for that elusive 1C we seek.
Sorry for the long explanation but I thought I'd give you credit on a fair trade instead of just saying, Minnesota declines

Leafs vs Oilers whos the better team right now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>Your only FACTS was your line combos and that’s cause I’m not a leafs fan and don’t know the exact lines.</div></div>
He wasn't even right about that. Johsson played much of the first half next to Matthews and Nylander and when Keefe took over Johnsson got hurt and Matthews was moved to play with Marner and Hyman. Nylander and Soupman played with JT and Kerfoot was playing with Kapanen and Johnsson before Kap and Mongo collided and Johnsson hurt his knee. Either way right now, Johnsson would 100% be on the 3rd line next to Kerfoot and Kapanen. That is a fact that would not be disputed if he was healthy. With all that said, you are right, Kerfoot, Kap and Johnsson is lightyears better than Sheehan, Archibald and Ennis or whoever is on that line. I really get a kick out of these Oiler fans saying Ennis is better than the Leafs 3rd line. I wonder if they realize he was a Leaf last year and was a 4th liner and sometimes a healthy scratch, so good he couldn't crack the top 9.

The contract only takes Ellis to 36 (and he turns that age half way through his final year), so even if he starts to decline at 35 I'd be perfectly happy with the Ellis contract.

Leafs and Rangers Fans --- Would you make this deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nics6ix</b></div><div>On this site, there are about 50% of the people like you and I who believe that the Leafs actually have good young man they have to trust in, and the other half of the site saying the Leafs defence is the worst in NHL history and they will back that up until they die. There is no in-between</div></div>
Much like everything in this day and age. You have to pick a side and if you don't pick a side, both sides hate you more than they hate the other side. Its ridiculous. In my opinion I just don't see the need to go crazy. Obviously if you can get a good deal that makes sense, pull the trigger but I am not sure that is anywhere to be had. I also think that under Keefe, the Leafs system was finally getting better for the team we have. Yeah there were still mistakes but anyone who watched them over the last 20 games or so, and knows how hockey works, defensively they were much improved. The way I saw it, under Babs they had a system of pressure everyone all the time and it led to defensive breakdowns all the time. Way too much space to operate for opposing teams and when they cycled around the offensive zone, eventually they'd get a wideopen shot from the slot. Under Keefe the team just collapses to the net to take that area away. It took a while for them to all buy in but they did. However, they did create problems for themselves by turning the puck over in the offensive zone resulting in odd man rushed in opposite direction. When they didn't do that, they often gave teams almost nothing offensively. I think they will continue to learn that sometimes, its smarter to just throw it deep and regroup. Protect the slot and let teams fire away from outside. When you regain possession go back and do what you do. Once they master that on a consistent basis, this team is scary good.

Playoffs
What became apparent to me towards the shutdown is defensively, TO was actually really good. However where they kept getting hurt was from self inflicted wounds. Their game is possession and puck movement and sometimes they held the puck too long or tried to be too fancy in the offensive zone and that led to high danger chances the other way. When they were back and defending they did an excellent job protecting the front of the net. I think the team just needed more time to learn when to keep the puck and when to just dump it deep and regroup. It had looked like they were getting better toward the shutdown and if they can continue with that trajectory, I think they'll be able to silence these trolls who say the Leafs have the worst defence in hockey. They definitely are far better than a lot of teams.

Stop embarrassing yourself. The deal proposed here is awful but yours is borderline worse. Dougie was the best defenseman this season in the 40ish games he played, if he did that every year since coming into the league we could have the discussion of him being the best dman. This guy plays half a season of his best hockey ever and thats his new standard? Cmon
