I agree but Demko signed this contract irl. I think JB should have given him more $$$ during the two years so that Demko would be more likely to take a discount on his next contract which will likely have some term. It would then give us more flexibility in the long-run to re-sign guys like Petey and Hughes etc.

Eriksson has turned into a "defensive specialist" for VAN... solid pk and shutdown guy who can chip in 10 goals

Summer 2019
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>J_Sand3rs</b></div><div>Lucic for Eriksson is about as lateral a move as possible, and Edmonton is giving up Puljujarvi. No, he's not the valuable 4th overall pick he was drafted to be, but the kid is still only 20 years old. I can't see Edmonton doing a trade like this without getting something of value in return.</div></div>
On the surface Lucic for Eriksson is a lateral move but when you examine their contract's, Eriksson is more tradeable than Lucic. Lucic has an extra year and an NMC throughout the entirety of his contract which means he will likely require protection in the Seattle expansion draft. Edmonton would not have to protect Eriksson and would be able to move him (after paying his signing bonus) to a team that is looking to reach the cap floor without spending too much real $$$. Essentially, Edmonton is trading a bad contract and JP for a better contract which would be easier to move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>I don’t understand your reasoning... I’m sure the canucks will not burn the first year off his elc(although on here it doesn’t say he is a slide candidate I assume that just needs to be updated). With the Draft not happening till after next season and Hughes needing more than 2 years pro hockey I think he is safe no matter what.</div></div>
Once he plays one game the first year of his ELC will be burned. If he plays 11 or more games this season he will be required to be protected in the expansion draft.

(NYR/VAN) - Mazanec for 2020 7th RD pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoreOfAnIslesGuy</b></div><div>I watched that video with Ray Ferraro talking about this. I agree with Ray, the deal would've been better earlier. I think they might've hoped DiPietro would be like Carter Hart, as also said in that video. The poor guy doesn't need to be anywhere near the NHL right now and I hope his confidence doesn't take too big of a hit because of this. Always have an NHL-capable emergency goalie at the ready in the AHL for situations like this. Wish Benning would think ahead, goalie wise. Markstrom isn't as good as he thinks and Demko is just getting there. When either of them are injured, the Canucks are **** out of luck.</div></div>
Markstrom has been carrying this team defensively. He gets no run support from the defenders in front of him and is doing his best to steal games. A goalie can only do so much when EP40 is your best defender most of the time.

Gardiner to van city
Don't see VAN moving on from Stecher unless it's a RD prospect coming back. He's practically our only young right-shot defender that's good. Also there is no way that Dalhen is traded (at least until he gets a chance to play with Pettersson again). Gardiner is going to complicate things in VAN next season. With Edler unlikely to waive his NTC I can see them extending him so they don't lose him for nothing. Hughes and Hutton will likely occupy the other two LD spots.
