CRAZY offszn

He’s better than demelo and younger. This is a big upgrade for winnepeg</div></div>
As a red wings fan, I believe it’s pretty hard to judge. Hronek at times looked great in Detroit, but also often got exposed defensively. Due to our situation, he was used a lot. In Vancouver, he not only has the benefit on playing with Hughes, but they have a fairly favourable deployment. If he played with Morrissey in Winnipeg, that would be beneficial as well, but would likely require harder minutes. Tough to judge then where he would fall in line between Vancouver and Detroit in performance, as it would be somewhere in the middle. Probably more palatable for the jets would be this deal and a cheaper contract

So what I’m saying is Wpg keeps Schmidt, Ana retains 50% on Henrique and Jets send their first and maybe a little sweetener the ducks way is what is fair for me

Few days ago I mocked Henrique to the Jets for a first and was chastised for it being a gross overpay lol. How quickly people’s perceptions change. I think no way Henrique fetches Lindholm return though

I've really enjoyed watching him play in Detroit with Cat.

While it’s likely just by chance and the crazy stretch the Wings had in December. The team’s record with Kane (6-9-4) vs without Kane (20-9-1) does bring me some pause, despite knowing Kane has looked fantastic and instantly brings a winning pedigree to this team.
Because of that, I’m torn if it is or isn’t the right move to try and bring him back.
Sprong I can also see possibly going either way. But he has been very good for us.

Yzerman loves Fabbri.
When he's playing he makes the Red Wings better.
He's finally healthy now and contributing.
He's a leader on that team.
I think he has more value as a Red Wing than whichever return he'd get which would be minimal given his 4 mil cap (or 2 mil retained) for a year and a half and his injury history.
Do I expect Fabbri to be re-signed when his contract is up?
No I don't. They'll need his roster spot for one of the many young forwards they have marinating in Grand Rapids.</div></div>
I agree with all. Only reason trading him makes sense is if we really want a roster spot for Berggren/Mazur. Can also make that happen by not resigning Sprong, Kane (and Fischer - although he falls into different category of player)

A team that wants a fairly priced middle six winger on only 1 year. Whether it’s for no return or Detroit retains half, I’m sure they could move him if they wanted to

I can see an off-season trade making sense if just to make a roster spot. Depends what we plan on doing with Sprong/Kane/Fischer/Berggren/Mazur. If we aren’t bringing back most of those guys and promoting the other ones, it wouldn’t make sense to trade him.

Why replace Fischer with a guy like Fischer when we already have Fischer? In all seriousness, the guy has been very good for us this year and is one of our best forecheckers. It’s not a coincidence they seem to create chances when he’s on the ice, even if he’s not the one putting the puck in the net

Henrique is a good target, but isn't worth a 1st. Maybe a low 2nd tops.
Tanev doesn't fill a need, he'd be just a depth guy in case of injuries and that doesn't cost a high 2nd that really is petty much a 1st.</div></div>
I do disagree about Tanev, even if it’s not a glaring need, he makes the team better. But I can agree that ideally the Jets wouldn’t give up quite this much. I just bumped the price a bit as sometimes happens near the TDL

Tanev wouldn’t solidify the blue line? Say Demelo gets hurt on the run home? You’re left with 1 rhd and probably Stanley in the lineup. Yikes. Teams strength in defending becomes an issue.
And yes the Crosby deal is a lot. But I disagree that the other ones are overpays let alone ‘crazy’. Would like to hear why you think that

The coach stinks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuzzledActuary</b></div><div>I bet you weren't saying sh*t about the coach when this team was second in the division and playing great hockey. He was probably a really great coach a month ago, right?
Blaming the coach is such a cop out for someone who just doesn't understand what they're watching. The players play the game, not the coach. The players create the turnovers, the players make the bad pinches, the players show lack of effort - not the coach. Etc, etc, etc.
Maybe they were playing WAY over their heads to start the year - ever think of that?
Maybe Larkins injury, coupled with Perron suspension and Kostins injury AND that Sharks loss blew a tire in them - ever think of that?
Maybe losing their hot goalie and having to rely on Reimer most nights has effected goals against - ever think of that?
The coach is far from the real problem. It's a skid, let them shake out of it.</div></div>
You’re pointing out a lot of big problems with the team, and I would agree with all of them. That doesn’t absolve the coach from my original points. He’s putting the players in a box and they look like they’re playing so restricted. I do know what I’m watching. They have at times played over their heads, but they are quite capable.
I think there’s one point here that can absolve the coach, and that’s if as some people suggest, the players are just tired because of a heavy schedule. But I personally think that’s a terrible excuse for high level athletes. If a team has a good structure, they will overcome that anyways.
The biggest question mark is the team is supposed to be defensively focused, well structured. That is the preach and I believe they’ve tried to bend these players to such a restrictive approach and a) a small mistake opens huge holes b) it is a difficult structure to master. So yes, mistakes happen from the players, the coach is putting them in bad situations. Even as guys like to rag on likes of Chiarot and Holl, they haven’t been bad by any means and can play defensively. Even when the team was playing over their heads, they were blowing leads for no reason other than bad structure. And if this falls ALL on the players, then why has the coach failed to hold any of them accountable over the last 10-15 game stretch that this has reared its ugly head?
Again, you’re bang on with things that have caused the downfall, but signs have been there and for me, it’s not acceptable. Notice I didn’t say fire the coach. But he needs to get his act together fast

And then go and blame the coach....lol</div></div>
Which part of that is hard to understand? Coach puts players in structures and situations and he’s not giving them spots where they excel, rather the opposite. The players are always the ones on the ice, so when things aren’t good enough, we should never blame the coach?

No you’re right. I do forget that at times. Yet they were at least supposed to be battling for a spot in my opinion, either just in or just out. And they still could. But it’s more about the way in which they’re playing. Brutal defensively. Brutal team defence. Sloppy play. And a serious lack of speed, physicality, or really anything that would indicate a passion for hockey, at least lately

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. But it’s not so much the defence. It’s the rush defence. Listening to 32 thoughts pod maybe a month ago, they mentioned one thing Detroit can do really well is defend (when deciding they are a decent for real team). But they also mentioned they’re still weak in rush defence, as we’ve seen. 2 separate areas and 1 we are good at, 1 we are brutal at. Missed Compher tonight, seems like no other forward wants to play responsibly with a lead. The defence have to be so much smarter and more responsible too in those situations. Simply unacceptable.

Holl has been okay to decent from what I’ve seen this season. Tbh I think the majority of games I watch though he is the scratch, or at least it feels like he is the most common blue liner scratched. Nonetheless, ok I think, comparable in that way to Maata, not usually a lot of good or bad things to say.

That's actually wicked then if he is playing better. It was probably more of a team thing than just a him thing last year as well.
I'll take back my statement if what you are saying is true.</div></div>
One caveat was he is facing much weaker competition this year than last. Which makes a lot of sense. We still likely don’t want him paired with Seider facing the best that the opposition has, but in better situations he is holding his own at least for the most part!

Chiarot is garbage? Have you been watching the wings this season Lance? Fairs if you said that last year, but saw a stat today he is 57th percentile in expected goals above replacement this season (was horrid last). I’m not big on analytics, but he’s passed the eye test with flying colours as well.

Kostin and Maata are roster players (see tonight’s game) and are not negative assets. I would be willing to deal Maata for very little so Edvinsson can get in, but Kostin is going nowhere. Please realize the way Klim was brought in just months ago.
Campbell is a boat anchor contract, not sure where you get the idea it only costs the wings 1.5M? Unless you’re mathing some subtraction there with this trade, but don’t bother. No matter how you swing this, Campbell is a massive cap load unless 50% retained, for any team.
Broberg has Filip Zadina level value in my opinion, I wouldn’t even take a flyer on him for free. We have about 5 better lhd prospects. I could do Campbell and 2 firsts for Maata and Reimer, but echoing some above comments, highly doubt Yzerman considers any such trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>You do understand teams have more than 1 draft pick per year, right?</div></div>
Yup. And as draft round goes on, draftee success rate significantly declines. Furthermore, players drafted in later rounds typically take more years before they might have a chance at breaking into the NHL.
Seider at 22 years old is Yzerman’s first draft class. You do realize you said ‘his rebuild didn’t work’ right? And that’s what I am still pointing at as being an asinine comment. Point is, the rebuild is still a work in progress, as one should expect with a rebuilding timeline. At the same time, the wings are competitive, adding Kane might make them even more so. By the time the rebuild is complete, Yzerman’s draft picks will be graduating into an already competitive team. Sounds terrible
