Opening Night
I'd put Hino up in the #2RW. His speed can help a top 6 role more than on the 3rd line. Not 100% sure Nylander makes the team.

Don't think Nylander has a sweater opening night.
It could probably be Ruhwedel over T.Smith as well.

I'd consider Cal Foote at RHD as well to give Ruhwedel and Friedman some competition in camp.

Who knows though for sure though. Just is concerning because ankle is one of the tougher injuries to recover from for skating. Whatever happens though definitely not good news for a team that has awful depth scoring. Can't really handle any injuries all season given the depth. If we don't pull the trigger on Karlsson this weekend will be feeling pretty bad about this upcoming season.</div></div>
Yeah I kind of forgot about getting back into playing shape. So best case scenario maybe like 14 weeks - 12 to re-evaluate and then a couple for skating on it. And yeah for a sport like hockey that's definitely a brutal one to have.
Oh it's terrible for sure. So much rides on the health and performance of the top 6. I'll be feeling bad as well. But hey I've felt pretty good about the teams the past few years and they did nothing so maybe this will be the opposite haha

If they're able to get EK and Guenztel only misses like 5ish games(what's currently expected) they'll still be solidly in the WC mix. If they don't get EK and Guentzel has a setback then yeah - they'll be in trouble

Brutal news
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>futurebobmckenzie</b></div><div>1.5 for Tatar is a joke. I don’t want Karlsson cus we saw how the Burns/Karlsson show went. Letang and Karlsson can’t both play 1st pair minutes and how will it go over telling one of them they’re off PP1. It’s not gonna go well. Would rather spend the assets on trying to get some scoring depth for this team than for an overpaid d man who doesn’t play defense and had his first good year since 17-18</div></div>
You saw how the Karlsson/Burns show went? You mean when Karl had 45 points in 53 games and Burns had 83 points? And then went to the conference finals and lost because the entire team was injured. Karlsson returned to form because he was healthy and because he wasn't bogged down by Boughner's system.
And considering Letang literally said he wants EK65, I think he's ok with not getting his PP minutes.

We have like 10 NHL defenseman between PIT and WBS. We can spare Rutta and POJ

I'm actually pretty close to that opinion as well. And if it doesn't happen by the time the buyout window closes, I seriously doubt it happens at all.

I’m sure Grier’s praying someone does, but I’m doubtful. I’d bet the deals he’s looking at are likely of the take it or leave it variety. That’s why we have a staring contest between Grier and about four teams. He can either take one or look like a fool who couldn’t trade a Norris winner who has no interest in playing for the his team. Plus, Karlsson has a full no move. He could simply say, nah, not Carolina or whomever. I don’t see the Sharks winning this trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>You'll find out soon enough. I also suspect if nothing happens by the time the buyout window closes, then Karlsson isn't happening either. As Dubas has little flexibility after that point.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcsnack</b></div><div>Agreed. I am kinda sensing that the Karlsson saga has slowed down. Dont know if he moves before the season starts at this point, but regardless, not buying out Granlund will mean that a trade of some sort has to be in the works to clear cap.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>I think this is a big week for Karlsson stuff. If it goes by with arbitration hearing and nothing changes then yeah, not great</div></div>
I bet Dubas has a trade on the table for Karlsson that involves Granlund. Grier is attempting to hold out but he will fold eventually when he realizes that he won’t get anything better. Karlsson mentioning he wants out doesn’t help SJS’s case either. Carolina is out of the mix after signing Deangelo so it should boil down to the Penguins and Kraken.

Being able to get Duclair in the Karlsson trade would be an incredible move. As far as the MIN deal - I think I'd rather keep POJ and just go after Tatar instead anyway

Question for Pens fans
I love the 4th line you put together here. All 3 of Nieto, Acciari, and Hinostroza provide some much needed speed for this team. that’s a fast line. could be a very effective 4th line.
Also for the 3rd line. I think we should try to follow the model of the HBK line. A good 2 way center in Eller along with one defensively responsible winger and one offensively minded winger. Maybe Nieto-Eller Rust and toss Johnsson on the 4th line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BURGHgirl</b></div><div>The buyout is $833k this year and $1.8m for the following 3. Retaining would only last 2 years. I intended the retention for Petry since he has the trade protection. Chiarot had trade protection too.
Granlund can be sent anywhere</div></div>
If Granlund could be sent anywhere, he would’ve been gone by now. Dubas isn’t going to pay a premium to move a bad contract. He’s more likely to buyout Granlund since we get a 2nd window with the O’Connod arb case.

Doubt it will be this complicated. Granlund, Poulin, and a 1st for Karlsson at 25-33% retained. Petry moved to another team in a 3 way deal or separately.

EK price is right.
I think ANA would actually take Rutta, but not sure about DeSmith.
Think on Petry you retain $1.5M and there is a decent chance Chicago takes that. I don't think any team will take Petry's full cap hit, but IMO Petry at $4.75M is a solid cap hit.</div></div>
You are correct about Anaheim, we have a spot for Rutta

Karlsson trade gives SJ a bunch of garbage. At least give them a decent roster player.
Sabres don't need a geriatric Jeff Carter for any reason.
Tanev for Ty Smith is ok, wonder if more pieces are added. Dube for a 2nd is bad.
Chicago considers that I think but you should take the 2nd out and include Puustinen instead.

I disagree w/ <a href="/users/PaulKorea" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@PaulKorea</a>. I think the Hawks probably consider that. AZ on the other hand definitely declines. They aren't taking on $4.4m in actual salary plus the extra year of Rutta for a couple of 6th rounders.

I'd take the gamble personally... he's been up and down the rags line up. I think this past season he spent the most time on Chytil's line which, he's a fine center but nothing amazing. Put Laf next to sid, bump jake to Malkin's line (they've shown plenty of chemistry when together) and see what happens. Laf could be really solid playing with someone as talented as Crosby.
If it doesn't work out then is what it is.

If we dont end up getting EK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>I think the teams in deep trouble if we don't get Karlsson. I think I'm at the point where I believe we need a true star to make this team into a contender. Like someone who would drastically take some of the pressure off the core and completely change the dynamic of the D. Karlsson would make us have a core 4 instead of 3. Even then we still have other flaws that would make it tough, but I could see a scenario where we win the cup if we get Karlsson.
If not Karlsson I think we'd pretty much have to build the perfect bottom 6 and add an elite puck mover on D given other negative factors such as age of the roster and lack of speed. Which at this point I don't think is possible given the moves that have already been made.</div></div>
Dubas has made some nice adds with Graves, Acciarri, Smith and Ned. Eller I'm on the fence about but considering the options this offseason it's not that bad. I agree with the Karlsson statement. Need a bit more star power and he could really change the dynamic of this team.

Say No to Erik
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>What power play chemistry do we have? It was awful last year. This team doesn't have enough offensive firepower in the bottom 6 or on defense as is.</div></div>
I was thinking the same thing, but I'm not thinking chemistry, but mentality... I desperately WANT EK to change the mentality of the PP. Yes, they scored some goals last year (with that talent, they better.) but they could be so much more if they changed the way they thought on the PP. I was EK to QB it from the center point. Put Letang on the left hash and Geno on the right. Sid and Jake down low. this will give them one-time options in either direction with people that have hand for deflections and rebounds. My only worry is that you don't want Sid in front of the net, and I don't know if Jake can survive being there all the time.
