Hey WSH, stop copying our bad contracting habits
$6.5m is good value for the next 3-4 seasons but that's too much term, wow.
but probably those few extra years were what convinced him to take $6.5m

why?
if he plays at even nearly the same rate and stays healthy then more teams will likely be interested as it would mean last season wasn't a fluke. Also cap is likely to go up more significantly 2024
team situations will change and perhaps that means more interest

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>That's your opinion. He is an 11.5MM noose around their neck. His value will never be higher and very few teams want him. So they can keep him and lose 46MM in an industry that doesn't make a ton of money or toss him and get back 46MM and help their tank.
In 21/22 the revenue for SJ was about 150MM. Remove tax, operational costs, team budget, coaches, scouts, etc and you're looking at a fairly small profit margin. Now, if your team is winning, then you don't need to make money. But if you're tanking AND losing money, the owners are going to be unhappy.
As far as fans go. Yeah, they like superstars but they prefer winning. Stars who don't win still dont bring in large crowds. Then take into account that Karl misses about 20% of the season every year.... His departure isn't really going to eat into revenue.
So yeah, SJ ownership would be dancing in the streets if someone took Karl and his 11.5MM for a handshake.</div></div>
<img class="for_img" src="https://media.tenor.com/dlLdNF3Z-CUAAAAd/the-big-lebowski-thats-like-your-opinion-man.gif" alt="the-big-lebowski-thats-like-your-opinion-man.gif">
Do you have a crystal ball that tells the future? If not, don't treat your guesses as absolutes. Maybe his value goes up or stays about the same after showing that he's healthy and close to being on pace for a repeat performance before 2024 TDL so that other teams become more comfortable taking the risk that he's going to last through his contract. He did 82 games last season because he fully recovered from the injuries that were bothering him years before and you could tell because most of his game revolves around his skating ability.
If you're going to watch your team lose it's more entertaining to see a star on your team do something cool during the game than just watch your team full of AHLers get obliterated. Yes casual sharks fans just care about winning but most season ticket holders want to go to the game and get some entertainment out of it. Sharks without Karlsson are going to watch their team lose plus not have the entertainment of EK. He's a big name and very marketable.

Probably takes a bit more, like a 2nd. But I have no idea why SJ would want to clog up their LD logjam even further. Unfortunately both PIT and SJ have too many LDs
to be honest, if it wasn't for the rumors I would have never believed PIT was a frontrunner because they are generally poor trade partners unless Grier is interested in sheer quantity of picks or so-so prospects and I had no idea PIT wanted to get even older

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>They are rebuilding and would love to lose his 11.5MM. </div></div>
They don't need to clear cap space during the rebuild. It allows them to take on other bad contracts for assets but I'm guessing they would much rather have a franchise player in the organization to help sell tickets. Highly doubtful they compete for playoffs in the 4 years remaining on the contract. SJ would be so much better off without Karlsson preventing them from tanking fully, but it's not realistic to think they would give him up for free or pay to ship him out, so it's kind of a waste to consider those scenarios. They're going to camp on him unless the right deal comes along. Just because he would like to go to a competitor does not mean their hand is forced to trade him.

don't think sharks will be walking away from karlsson for free. It might be better for them to do so in the long run but I don't see anyone giving away a franchise talent for free. I think that scenario is about when this fantasy site goes off the rails

He DOESN'T want to play in SJ anymore. Period. Maybe I should have worded it differently, but he is done being a Shark. If it happens now, in a week, in a month or 4 months. He wants out. If Grier holds him too long and he is injured....again....you will be stuck with him and will not get ****. Get angry and nasty all you want, but Karlsson isn't worth what you think he is. Yes you should have worded it differently. There's a big difference between "will not" and "not wanting" to. You're spreading misinformation and I'm more annoyed by that than whatever you opinion is on Karlsson's worth

And I'm not out to lunch, it's reality. Texier just sat out an NHL season while playing in France. His contract slid a year as a result. There is no "used car salesman pitch. I'm simply pointing out it's difficult to focus on the future if you have unresolved issues. Open your eyes. Everyone else in the league sees the same thing. Grier is negotiating from a position of weakness. Sorry you can't see that</div></div>
You claimed above " EK said he will NOT play in SJ anymore. "
This is not what he said. He said he would not be okay playing out his remaining contract in San Jose.
Nor does sitting out for a season align with anything he has said. You're literally just making **** up or you can't read
<strong>Obviously the Sharks are in a rebuild right now, would you be okay with staying with the organization for the four seasons remaining on your deal given where you are in your career?</strong>
<em>No I am not. I like San Jose and I like it there, but I've never been able to win before. I want that chance now that I'm at the end of my career. I have been open about that with Mike from the first day he started. He hasn't had any problems with it. We understand each other and we will do so regardless of what happens in the future.</em>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BURGHgirl</b></div><div>EK can also take a personal leave until that trade occurs. Or take a year off and push the contract a year longer. That's not a position Grier is going to want to prolong</div></div>
You're completely out to lunch thinking this based on what he has said to the media.
Karlsson will play in SJ but would prefer to play somewhere to compete. Everything he has said has aligned with this.
But find me the quote that said he will sit out and not play for San Jose this season?
The used car saleman pitch of "sell now" is tired and old, and obviously Grier is not going for it or else we would have seen a trade for the reported returns.

We'll throw in Granlund for free. The longer the wait, the less the return. We'd like to have Karlsson, but we don't need him. Sharks are at a major disadvantage on this one</div></div>
Peng pulled that trade out of his ass and said as much in the article. Has no bearing on what actually is being offered or negotiated. SJ don't need to trade him yet and that doesn't mean less return

CA bay area is nice for sure but if there was anywhere I'd think he would waive to it would be BOS for not only the awesome team but playing with Pasta.
Think if the 1st and Debrusk is dropped out and then at least a 2nd going to SJ then this deal could work. Don't know why BOS would get rid of Debrusk, but they would need to shed a bit more cap to fit Hertl because SJ absolutely wouldn't retain on that long of a contract

SJ will be clutching onto their 1st rounders for dear life; no chance they give those away for at least a couple years since they're going to be in the lottery, likely top 5
