It's pointless for the Blues to move Steen and Bozak. Wouldn't be paying a first to move either of them, the market has been set at comfrotably less than that.

Blues would have absolutely no interest in Tyler Johnson. Certainly not moving a first for him.
Even without Bozak, we have ROR, Schenn, Thomas, Sundqvist and Barbashev as centres.

I won't break down every aspect of the Blues trade, other than to say that it is a very obvious no from the Blues. No need to move Steen and Bozak, and obviously not with that crazy price.

Regardless of what happens with Pietrangelo, we won't be getting out of a cap issue by dealing a player on a bargain contract.

Selling Yotes
I wouldn't move our 2020 first for Kessel. We need to add to our prospect pool now. We showed last season that we can survive without Tarasenko during the regular season... so we don't need to rush out and replace him and can be patient with his return with how late it looks like next season will run.
If we were talking the 2021 first & Bozak for Kessel at 50%? That is something I could maybe get on board with. Might not be enough for Arizona though. Normally delaying the pick a year isn't good, but Bill Armstrong might be open to that knowing he'll have his own set up running the 2021 draft, rather than the current group.

That's just utterly bizarre reasoning.
Benning is crap. Even if Pietrangelo leaves, we have Parayko, Faulk and Bortuzzo as RHD who would be ahead of him.
If Pietrangelo is leaving, then we don't need to clear the Bozak cap space. We're happy with him as a player, just accept that he's overpaid. Far more useful than Chiasson.
That we're giving up picks and also taking Chiasson? Come on...

It will take substantially more than that to get Parayko. No reason to take such a significant downgrade for an, at best, extremely average prospect.

Fixing the D but keeping the Bottom 6
The value in the Parayko-Nylander trade is largely meaningless.
If the Blues lose Pietrangelo then there is no chance they trade Parayko. If they keep Pietrangelo then there is no chance they take on ~$1.5m in salary in this deal.

Marc Staal is not an NHL calibre player. He is hot garbage, has a $5.7m cap hit and plays a position (LHD) that there is an abundance of around the League. That trade shows that the Blues won't have a problem moving Bozak, and the cost will be nowhere near a second for a good third line centre (always in demand) who is great on the dot. Absolutely overpaid, but the team actually gets a competent player.

Parayko will be getting $7m+ on his next deal because he is a #1D.
The idea that the Blues would trade one of their best players to create cap space is bizarre... there are plenty of better candidates, before we even consider buyouts.
Lagesson is nothing special. His realistic upside is a bottom pairing defenseman. At 24 you can get guys with similar upside on waivers at the start of a season. The Blues have 3 NHL LHD and both Mikkola and Perunovich would be ahead of him in the pecking order.
They aren't even getting a first in the deal. Just a massive, massive downgrade from Parayko (with 2 years on his deal) to Larsson (with 1).

That offer for Parayko is nowhere near what it would take. Larsson is not a starting point, and mediocre prospects don't help bridge the chasm in value between Larsson and Parayko.

If we need the cap space and a fourth for Bozak with $1m retained is the best offer? Sure. I doubt we'd want Aston-Reese though, probably better just removing him from the deal and burying him.

Nylander and Boeser to Boston
That Vancouver trade makes no sense. The rights to Krug are worth about a fourth round pick. The Canucks aren't giving up any significant assets for a sign-and-trade, because then it's clear the player is happy to sign in Vancouver for that price and they can just wait until October 9 and they don't lose the asset.
Nylander is worth considerably more than DeBrusk. If the Leafs want to move Nylander then they won't have a problem finding suitors.

I'm guessing you're not clear on how LTIR works, but acquiring Dubinsky doesn't help us in any way. It doesn't magically give us extra cap space.

Sundqvist is pretty important to the Blues, wouldn't be using him to get rid of Bozak.
While Allen was traded for cap space, it's also to give Husso a chance. We need to know what we have in him going forward. So none of the return makes sense for the Blues.

I didn't mean that he would get $11.5m AAV. I said there is no chance that he leaves $11.5m on the table... the reported Blues offer is 8 x $8m, that's $64m. 7 x $7.5m is $52.5m. Things like signing bonuses are important, but it isn't such a big issue that you leave so much on the table and take higher taxes. I imagine that the Leafs offer would need to be in the $60m range, which is getting to around 7 x $8.5m.

I don't see Pietrangelo leaving $11.5m+ on the table to sign in Toronto. Probably going to have to bump that up to at least $8.5m x 7.

poile turnaround
It doesn't make sense for the Blues to move a 25 year old signed at $1.5m for a 28 year old signed at $2m. Over the past two seasons Järnkrok has produced at a pace of around 33.8 points per 82 games, whereas Sanford is 35.2 per 82 games.
I don't see the incentive for the Blues to do it one-for-one, never mind adding a pick.

This is correct. The problem is that most of the media doesn't seem to understand this, so people are going to keep believing that acquiring his rights is enough.
I don't see any realistic scenario where the Blues trade the rights of Pietrangelo, and the asset cost of a sign-and-trade would not be worth it to bring the cap hit down by $1m-$1.25m compared to just signing him to a seven year deal in UFA. I doubt the Leafs would offer a second for his rights and the Blues sure as **** wouldn't accept.

Lets try that again
Bjugstad at 50% returned a late pick. If the insiders are to be believed, the big issue around the League is salary and not necessarily cap hit. Bjugstad is injured, also only has one year on his deal, isn't as effective as Bozak at centre and is owed $5.25m (so Minnesota on the hook for $2.625m) in salary this season.
Bozak is owed $4.25m this season. 30% retained ($3.5m cap & $3m salary) and he's still far better value than Bjugstad and doesn't have the injury risk. There is always a demand for centres. I don't think we'd have an issue moving him at that without giving assets.
If the Blues are going to extend Pietrangelo and trade Dunn, then moving Bozak with 30% retention would be enough cap space open to sign Pietrangelo and have a full 23 man roster.

The Blues don't do any of those deals.
Parayko for Rielly doesn't make sense. People can bang on about about having too many RHD, but Rielly certainly doesn't fit on a pairing with Pietrangelo or Faulk. There is no point in paying Pietrangelo and then neutering him so Rielly can be the PMD.
Bozak at $4m has value, and I wouldn't move Dunn for Bertuzzi. Dunn for futures makes more sense for the Blues.
The first absolutely is no getting moved to move Steen. There are other options.
This also doesn't make sense for the Blues beyond this season, it puts us in cap hell at the end of 20/21.

Brutal for Detroit. Recent 6th overall pick, a first rounder that's expected to be high, the 32nd overall pick in this draft and a 40-50 point 25 year old winger? It makes absolutely no sense for a rebuilding team to trade multiple high value futures for a young player on a massive contract.
Blues don't entertain the idea of Reilly for Parayko at all.
