Mantha starts with Broberg or Bouchard. Likely adding in Puljujarvi in there too.
Call it an overpay, but Mantha has very strong analytics and is signed on a great deal with term. Detroit has no reason to move him for nothing short of something that blows them away.

I'm assuming for the same reason people think adding Zetterberg gives them an extra $6M in cap space. They don't understand the rules.

The TJTwolf and csick trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwingsfan04</b></div><div>Looks decent from a Detroit prospect. I’d say Nemeth and Bernier are worth around a 3rd each which is roughly equal to a 2nd + prospect.</div></div>
Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.
In that case maybe we'll just trade you a couple of 3rd's instead lol...
Seriously though, I figured that a 2nd and a lesser prospect instead of two 3rd's would be enough to offset the retention. Detroit would need to retain at least $1m to make this work for Colorado.

Salary retention would help yall too with the cap fllor.
And bruins arent the team (they dont want him), but a 3rd isnt unreasonable to another team

What a Graves to PITT would actually look like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwingsfan04</b></div><div>I think some of the trades proposed by Colorado fans have been overvaluing Graves but this isn't anything that the Avs would even consider.</div></div>
I tend to agree, but he's a decent young d-man locked up for 3 years at a decent cap hit. Not many teams looking to shop such a player, so the Avs are in a position of strength in that regard.
They're also in no rush to trade him, so it'll have to be a decent offer.

what we should do next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwingsfan04</b></div><div>Not sure what Deangelo returns. He was great offensively last year, but with his defensive issues and "attitude issues", I'd question if anyone would give up a 1st for him. Also, any reason why he was a healthy scratch this year?</div></div>
the reason was becuase he bad mouthed a ref after a questionable call. he was sucker punched and got a penalty so he said something to a ref and slammed the penatly box door shut. quinn wanted to play him against the devils but also wanted to keep the lineup the same so quinn is at fault. Deangelo sat the first game as a statement to younger players on the team.

Official
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwingsfan04</b></div><div>Seems like a bad trade for Colorado. Exchanging Cole for Pateryn is a downgrade and they didn't really need to save any cap since they're both UFA's. Even worse if they had to retain salary on Cole. Only reasons I can think of to make this trade is creating more cap space for a TDL splash or making room for Byram.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Not a fan, but in Joe we trust. On face value it's a loss for the Avs. All depends on Joe's next move.</div></div>
It's a savvy trade by Sakic.
Cole was going to be our 8th Dman once Byram and Johnson were ready to play, and it made zero sense to have $4.25m sitting in the press box burning capspace.
Sakic also has a reputation of being solid with players, and likely did Cole a favour by trading him somewhere he'd get to play in a contract year, rather than simply waiving him and letting him fizzle into obscurity when he needs to be playing to earn his next contract. These things matter when players are considering where to sign as UFA's.
The cap savings are important too. $1.2m will allow for a 22 or 23 man active roster instead of just 21, meaning that there's way more flexibility in moving players up and down to the taxi squad.
Not to mention that $1.2m in capspace will accrue around $6m in capspace by the deadline, meaning that Sakic basically created the circumstances by which he can be a serious player on the trade market from now until the deadline. All for a minor downgrade at 8D.
As for Pateryn himself, the fact that he's a PK'ing unit and a RHS is obviously really beneficial, as it gives us a RHS PKer to insert into the lineup in the event that Johnson is injured. We really missed that against Dallas, and this is the insurance.

PLD and TJ do have the same AAV
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwingsfan04</b></div><div>I suppose that might work although I think McDonagh has a NTC (I guess they could arrange it so Tampa leaves McDonagh unprotected and Seattle takes him). I still don’t think it would make sense for them as they’d probably have to give a lot more for Dubois than Seattle would give them back since Tampa would lose leverage since they’d have to make that move to get under the cap. If I were Tampa and looking to move Johnson this year I think I’d just do it for a rental.</div></div>
Personally they should do nothing but stick with what they have get the B2B and deal with next year in the off season
