A possible Meier solution
IMO the best Timo option is to wait. We are rockin it right now no need to sell the farm and mess things up. The Sharks suck, and are going to suck for a long time, Timo has to know this. I say we wait and pick him up in the off season. Sign Bratt and then see what we have to fit him in. If he doesn't sign then ok. If the team tanks anytime before the off season and we see that we have to have Timo, then we figure out a way to pay more during FA or make a trade deadline deal. Holt will get his chance at some point this year to prove he is worth keeping, and I think he is. But I would take Bratt over Timo, and but would love to find a way to add Timo in FA.

Deadline Deals
as a Devils fan I don't know much about Ceci but I think it would be a good trade. we could try him out for the remainder of the year and if he doesn't work let him walk, and you get a physical forward that works well in front of the net.

Final thoughts on the Hall trade
I, as a Devils fan, like the trade. I think it works for both sides. Yes Devils are gambling a bit on the future, but I think it is a much better return for a rental than anyone was expecting.

never say never, lol. Your a good team now, he might want ride that to a cup. It is obvious that he will not be in NJ much longer. We are no where near the level of team he wants to play for and I don't see Shero letting him walk for nothing at the end of the season.

Chicago what would it take
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>To me...including Schneider is a pretty large negative. He's NOT a true #1 goalie which means the Hawks will have a $6M backup for a few years which isn't ideal cap management since they're already up against the cap ceiling. I personally have would trade Lehenr at half retention to the highest bidder. Call me cold and heartless...I don't care. The Hawks problems are singular. Get as many high picks as you can. I don't see NJ being the landing spot as I don't see them giving up enough assets to get him. Yeah...I guess they could, but NJ isn't a true cup contender this year. I see a team like CAR because it's already clear they don't have a #1 goalie. They also have multiple high picks over the next few years. Or if an unfortunate injury were to happen. I would hate for any player to get hurt, but it does happen.</div></div>
I agree, Schneider is going to be a problem for us for years to come. I can't see any team taking that off our hand.

thanks for reading the post and responding with an actual alternative, other than puking. I don't know enough about either prospect but would probably lean towards Bouchard and a pick. Thanks for the input.

Edmonton and Colorado
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>that is too much, over payment.
Timmins Zads, Bura, and 3 draft picks? Dear lord that is just a gross over payment and a way to just gut a team, killing their cup window before it even opens fully
I would say the vast majority of avs fans (and the majority of any other teams fan base with that sort of value given up) would say thanks no thanks if that is what the cost of Hall is. Devils can ask for too much, not get a trade and he will walk for nothing</div></div>
for the Hall trade it was only two picks, and in the comments I noted that I thought it would be too much and had remove the 1st? To the Vatanen trade I figured Timmins was a second round pick, and Vatanen is playing well so added the 4th.
Remove the 1st from the Hall trade, remove the 4th from the Timmins trade, does that still look to be too much?

I wasn't sure, I know you guys are looking for a cup run and thought he would help. He has been playing fairly well lately, but he is not a long term solution for us. At least I hope not.

if you look in the comments of the trade, Hall signs extension, which I think he would given the prospect of competing for a serious chance for a cup with Edmonton for the next few years.

Actually yes I was. Looked at Brook and noticed his size, and he was a middle 2nd round pick. I was not aware of his apparent upside. Most of the Montreal trades include a d man and since your in the top 10 for goals for in the eastern conference, but middle of the road on goals against, I thought it would be a good fit. On top of that I know that NJ needs to look for some D men that won't be pushed around, and we don't need them to play this year.

Wild trade your thoughts
I just watched the first period vs Boston and I am not sure I can blame just the players any longer. The spacing is horrible, and bringing it out of our zone is a waste of time. We are just passing to the opposition. I know it is early in the year and I was optimistic after the Edmonton game, but you can already see we have the same problems. I think this change might help, but as much as I hate to say it we might need to look for a new coach soon. Oh and last thought, I don't know that much about Zucker, but unless he can play a strong game, not get pushed off the puck, he would be a waste on this team.
ok I am done ranting.

New Lines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Book_Hockey</b></div><div>Hughes should be paired with Bratt/Boqvist and Palms. No reason to keep him on the 3rd line with guys who cant keep up with him skating wise after two games. If Hynes keeps this up he wont be behind the bench come the new year,</div></div>
Hynes isn't going anywhere.
Hughes is great offensively, but needs a lot of help on defense (Coleman) and physical protection (Simmonds). Doesn't really matter if he is the #2 or #3. He will learn and be a solid #2 by the end of the year. We have a lot of younger guys that need to learn how to play both sides of the puck. Mixing the lines up will cover their inexperience until they improve. I do think Boqvist should be one the ice instead of Rooney, and I think he will in a very short time. I would like to see Gusev and Bratt swapped, but that is just me.

I think Sami will net a 2nd and maybe a fourth.
I agree we should try to get Quinn, and Smith hasn't done himself any favors this camp. I know he has a great upside, but I think the Hughes connection makes it something we should try. Especially after missing the boat with the Niedermayer brothers.
Do you think Smith and a 1st for Quinn without Mcleod would be enough?

Final Opening Night
I think Hughes needs either Kyle or Wayne on his line. Kyle would be shooter 1st and protection 2nd, Wayne would be protection 1st and shooter 2nd. I could see Bratt moving to L1 and Kyle to L2. I still think Ty Smith makes the roster. I know he has had a rough go so far, but I still think he will sneak in and take a spot. I also think our goalies are not the liability that everyone thinks they are. Cory looks to be back to old form, or near enough, and Mackenzie looks ready to be a solid backup until he take the next step.
This team could make more noise in the playoffs that most are giving them credit for.
