That’s fair points. I was more or less saying that kapenan doesn’t fit the role with toews as a first line.
Rust does.

Make the Pittsburgh trade for Rust. He’s fit better with toews and kubalick.

I like Guentzel but he stands no chance. He’ll get tossed around by the bigger teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if Burke trades him to get more depth.
I’m these tournaments, I’d prefer speed and grit for my team so that means no Johnny hockey either.
I’d also replace Carlson for someone like McDonaugh or another shut down guy.

Stan,
I see your point and it certainly does seem logical.
Although I wouldn’t mind seeing debrincat-dach- Kane followed by kubalik-toews-smith.
Just seems like a better fit. Plus we’d get a second back which we could use.
I’m just not sold on strome. He hasn’t panned out anywhere.
And on your point for being a “50 pt guy”. He’s a 3rd line center On this team so he won’t be going over 35 pts this season.
It’s a nice cushion to have in case toews still isn’t ready though so like I said, I see your point, but there’s an argument to move on as well.

USA Team Built On Speed and Grind Similar to 2010 and not 2014
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>ah yes, the "nuh uh, youre a troll because you disagree with me" reply. Always a good sign you have nothing. And goal differential, not point differential, you see when teams are otherwise tied, teams that score more goals get the tie breaker, it's pretty common knowledge for anyone who knows anything about international hockey.
Im also not saying you should have oshie on the team, just that not putting him there because he's a "skill" guy is a dumb reason.
And if you dont make the gold medal game then you cant win the gold medal game, if you are bringing grinders over more skilled players you're reducing your chances of making that gold medal game</div></div>
Are you telling me that USA might not get into the quarter-finals with this team while playing Canada, Germany and China? Wow I didn't realize how back USA Hockey was that they can't beat China and Germany?!?!?
Once you get to quarter-finals, it's a grind bud.... The USA has shown time and time again that talent won't get you gold medals.
2006- No medal - team had little talent and grind
2010 - Won Silver - Good combo of talent and physical play
2014 - No medal - talented team lacking grit/size/speed
2018 - No medal - No identity for this team and hard watched.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>One, the Olympics are not the cup. It's a one game tournament format where goal differential means something.
Two, discounting oshie as a skill guy when he's one of the most big stage clutch players the states has ever had is hilarious
Three, just because some teams have slogged their way to wins doesnt mean that is how you build a winner. Canada isnt going to care if the usa wants to grind it out, they will just cycle the worse players into dust faster than a speedier more skilled team that lacks counter punch.
The usa will have by far the strongest goaltending in the tournament and they should use that to lean the other way.</div></div>
I can see you’re now a troll. Who cares about point differential in olympics? It might help you not play Canada in the first round of preliminaries.
Oshie was clutch one time on the national stage, but was still on a team who didn’t Medal ( I think). Maybe bronze.
But point is, you might be in it to have a good record, but I’m focused on winning the gold medal.

You bring the best team you can and hope foe the best, every other country hopes like hell the usa thinks gritty hockey over skill is the direction taken by that team</div></div>
If you look at the long list of Stanley Cup Champions, each one had a combination of Grit/Role Players and Talented Players. If you add Oshie, Gaudraeu, Debrincat then you will have an lopsided mix of talent.
On top of this, if you want to play the style of game that has the "most talented players" then you better compare them to who you are playing against. Canada would destroy the US on talent alone. Russia would beat the US on Talent. Sweeden and Finland would probably do the same in my opinion. Does anyone not remember 1980?

Apparently, you don’t watch playoffs. How’s Toronto or Colorado doing?
Oh yeah, two of the most talented teams were ousted early in the playoffs.
Tampa bay is talented, but they also have a good amount of grit in their game.
Dallas didn’t get to the finals with just talent, Montreal didn’t, Nashville didn’t.
The common theme here.
You need top-end talent though to win.
Kane and Matthew’s are your top-end talent.
Canada has a lot more as well, but going with the guys I keep referencing will get you a winning record in preliminarys and knocked out quickly after that.

Look at the history of USA teams. The two years they brought teams that are tough grinders (1997 WC and 2010 OG) they either won gold or silver. All other years you have smaller more (talented) players, they hardly medaled. It's too bad Stan would rather have a team based on talent and not a team meant to win in the games that are battles.

I like the points on Suter over Hughes. That leaves me on a torn decision though.... McDonagh vs Suter. Tough call because McDonagh sure looked solid in playoffs and Suter hasn't looked like he used to. Players in their prime, I'd take Suter all day.

Defense wins you championships. Not small players who can get thrown around. Luckily Kane has enough talent that won't be an issue.

USA has a plethora of speed players.
We saw in the World Cup a few years ago what that can do.

Eichel trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>corsiagainst</b></div><div>The Sabres literally wanted Power to go back to school. There is no point for him being here next year. They are trying to lose again. It is so short sighted to believe this is a slight against the Sabres. If the Sabres truly wanted him in the lineup next year he would be here.
Power will play the year in Michigan, log big minutes, play in every situation on a stacked team and go to World Juniors. Then after the NCAAs he will sign at the end of the season and get a few games in this year. Barring injury you will see Power in a sabres uni before the end of the year.
I get he's 1st overall and it may not seem normal, but then again what has normal been lately? no fans, covid, shortened season etc. We are not in normal times. Also, see Makar, Hughes, Werenski all as recent examples on D-man who went back to college after being drafted (Makar is somewhat of an outlier because he was drafted out of jrs.)
As far as the trade above goes, you would have to change the 2023 to a 2022 1st and include Svechkov to get the conversation started.</div></div>
Listen, I would say Buffalo has the best fan base in the nhl. Someone please name one more loyal.
But unfortunately the organization has developed a bad reputation among players in the league and this Eichel thing has exploited that very publicly.
They really need to completely gut the organization and create a new culture.
It’s tough enough to get players to commit to Buffalo and other northern Canadian teams but then add that to the rumors of issues within the organization and that makes it easy to see players don’t want to go there.

While I agree it's not the best. You may need to start preparing for the fact you may not get what you think out of him. If Salary get's retained, it could help, but word is out on this and the other teams have all the leverage. Unfortunately for you fans, the GM is playing the LONG waiting game to trade him. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. In this case, since he doesn't have much leverage in negotiations, he won't be able to get what you think he should. I don't see too many desperate GM's out there willing to make it happen.
Moreover, teams should have their star players back on issues like this. I bet the rest of the league... including OWEN POWER are taking note of this and will be much more reluctant on signing there.
I hate to say it, but Buffalo is still in for some hard times whether you like it or not. The key tell sign for me was the fact Owen Power is going back to school. Thats the sign that he doesn't want to play there. He gave up over $1 million to go back to Michigan.

Hawks rework this trade for Beaudin instead of Mitchell and the hawks accept as long as it’s not top 3 protected.
Montreal isn’t making playoffs this year. Price isn’t going to be 100% to start the season and then on top of it you have to pass Boston, Toronto, Florida and Tampa.
Good luck Montreal. I’ll roll this dice for a top 3 potential.

What’s with all of the trades for Morgan Reilly on here.
While I’m not saying he’s not a good defender, why should the hawks give up so much for him?
Moreover, why should Toronto be shipping him if he’s so valuable and they need him for a cup run.
This makes no sense to me. To me, hawks defense is looking fine with regula, vlasic, Mitchell all waiting to step in at any time.
They sure look to have a big tall defense for years. Losing draft capital for Reilly doesn’t seem logical
