Agreed, they have the most depth. I could have easily made three competitive Ontario teams, would have just been complicated to divide the players logically

Ya that was the site I was using, surprisingly team Alberta doesn't have that much depth up front and no starting goalie

I'm not sure Marleau's played well enough to get to play with Matthews and Nylander, I'd rather see a puck retriever with them, like Brown or maybe even Leivo, he's been a good possession driver

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>no I read your description but why bother adding these clearly elite players to this ........roster? you also said these players represent Nylander's floor and his ceiling. You should Sign/Trade/Value Nylander accordingly.
in what world do those players represent his ceiling? ill answer they don't....it was pointless to list them....... that was my main point</div></div>
Completely disagree with you, the post gives a nice perspective of the only players that have done better than him on their ELC.
Although unlikely, those elite players could be his ceilling, player's don't fully mature until about 23-24
Great post

2020 Seattle Expansion Draft - Protected List
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tomato43</b></div><div>I think if you are under 20 years old the only way to accrue a professional year of experience is to play at least 10 games in the NHL. So as long as LIlgegran doesn't play 10 games in the NHL this year he would still not have technically accrued any professional experience as defined by the CBA. Grundstrom on the other hand has a birthday that falls in a period where his age 19 season in the AHL is technically considered an age 20 season because of when his birthday happens.</div></div>
Thanks for clearing that up.
Wow, so the expansion draft is looking pretty bleak for our forward crop, 5 of Brown, Hyman, Johnsson, Grundstrom, Moore, Leivo exposed

I'd keep Grundstrom over Brown just because we are already so deep on the right side and he'll be cheaper at that point then brown

2020 Seattle Expansion Draft - Protected List
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tomato43</b></div><div>Liljegren will be exempt from the draft if he doesn't play 10 games in the NHL this season. I think Dubas will purposefully not call him up for this fact. Grundstrom will need to be protected however if my understanding is correct. This all assumes that Seattle gets its team for the 2020 season. Unless Hyman has a monster year and scores 25 G and 25A, or if Johnsson doesn't excel with additional playing time, i think i would rather protect Johnsson over Hyman. it would be tough to possibly love Grundstrom too, after his development with the Marlies. Expansion sucks :(</div></div>
Grundstrom would have to be protected if he played 40 games in 2019, because Marleau will still be there and because I think Moore is ahead of him in the system I don't see that happening. He'll definitely play in the Nhl in the 2019 season but probably not 40 games.
As for Lilegren I'm not sure, this what it says on NHL.com
* All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).
Not sure if the AHL would count for professional experience, but I am pretty sure he will play 40 games in 2019, unless we sign or trade for someone to replace Hainsey

Big time, worst come to worst we could trade Zaitsev, it's a modified NMC, so we could dump him to one of the 10 teams on his list

Nylander trade and full health lines your thoughts
Although Dumba is one of the few defencemen I'd want in return for Nylander, I just don't see it happening regardless of the price. Both teams are doing really well this season, there's no need for a huge shake up like this from either side

Nylander long term deal Dec 1
Don't know how many days you put in for your result, but what the google sheet doesn't do is show how much of the first year salary Nylander would actually get paid, considering the days he has missed.
Made a green box showing that amount, I think that's how it'd be calculated

How to fix the Marleau situation next year
Best case scenario really. Everybody benefits from the signing bonus heavy contract here, although who ever took the buyout deal would take the full 6.25 cap hit, it would only cost the franchise 800k to buyout

Thread:
Nylander Blinks 30th of November
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>This idea needs to be put to bed. All of those cap savings come directly out of nylanders pocket in year one. On a 7.5m contract x 5 years nylander loses 2.325 (to get the savings year one has to have a 7.5m salary not bonus) so he makes 5.15m year one and 7.5 x4... so 35.15m over 5 years. Why would toronto not sign him to 7x5???? With max bonus year 1??? We would save more money than what you are proposing and nylander would make the same amount.</div></div>
The cap hit of the years after the first year of the contract is calculated first:
Cap hit after the first year = (First year salary * season days remaining / total season days + contract value remaining) / contract years
The first years cap hit is then calculated:
First years cap hit = cap hit after the first year * total season days / season days remaining
That's from the frequently asked question on here, what's your source for knowing that the signing bonus would be excluded from this calculation. Normally the signing bonus gets included in a player's salary for that year.
