Yes its possible that Beauvillier get's hurt, but that kind of risk is present in pretty much every kind of deal involving players the NHL. Adding Beauvillier for a single year is not a bad thing for the Red Wings. He would improve the team next year and they have the flexibility to keep him, trade him or simply take the cap space. All of those scenarios are fine for the Red Wings from someone who fills the role of cap dump in the trade.
I originally had it as Myers + 1st 2024 (top-10 protected) for Rasmussen. If Detroit doesn't want Beauvillier then the Canucks just don't sign Barbashev in this scenario.</div></div>
Now you are getting unreasonable. 2024 is no protection. Period.
Detroit doesn't need a 1 year rental. Detroit isn't taking Myers and giving Rasmussen for a protected 1st. Not even close. No matter how you look at the proposal you have, Detroit declines. Detroit isn't helping your cap for a protected 1st, at the cost of a top 9 plug with physicality that is lacking in the current lineup. Rasmussen will continue to get better. The cost is not a protected 1st.

I've been a Rasmussen supporter from the beginning. He was a project when he was drafted, but I wanted Liljigren or Necas.
He has gotten better every year. He is awesome now as a role player with some skill. I won't give him away. A first in 2023 nets you Moore, Pelikka, and Barlow. That is a crazy good core for the future with Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson, Mazur, Berggren, Kasper, Wallinder/Johansson, etc....

Beauvillier could probably get a 2nd and Myers with retention would get a mid round pick. If you look at it that way then the trade is really 1st 2024 + 2nd + 3rd for Rasmussen.</div></div>
You really can't. What if AB gets hurt? You aren't trading Rasmussen for a mid or late 2024 1st and the possibility of more draft picks. If that's how you want to look at it, remove AB from the trade and dump him elsewhere. Then make the pick 2023 for sure, and add a 2nd.

This is a very realistic proposal honestly. Vancouver surely needs to add, but it not only gives them a cost controlled top 9 plug with size and defensive capability, but it frees up 8 million in cap. Vancouver most definitely needs to add, unprotect, or change the draft pick year. A trade like that would be a win for them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeROFLCOPTER</b></div><div>You're gonna anger a whole buncha Red Wings fans.
No one states it, but he's our fan favorite.</div></div>
I'm not so quick to get upset here. While I don't think I'd do this trade, it isn't far off. Rasmussen is cost controlled and cheaper than AB, and Rasmussen is younger, better defensively, and can play center. Plus, Rasmussen is RFA after next season, AB is UFA. Production wise, AB is pretty close to .5 ppg, Rasmussen had this past season as productive, though I expect here on out he will be above .5ppg.
So, we can establish, Rasmussen is by far a better value than Beauvillier, with a massive reason being contract expiry and future salary expectations. The Wings may as well consider Beauvillier a rental, or tbey will probably wind up paying a middle 6 winger north of 5 million per, which is not likely a good idea. Myers costs assets to rid the contract, or has very little trade value.
That leaves this whole trade down to the 1st. A 2024 pick, protected, is non-starter. Protection needs to be gone. Rasmussen is worth more than a middle or later 1st. I'd also add a 2023 2nd round pick to the package to Detroit. Otherwise, the 1st would have to be 2023.
This is a fair idea, not crazy outlandish like Vladar for a 3rd plus or Hellebuyck for for 4 first round equivalents or Petry for any asset. Just needs some more work.

It has to be the right player to acquire. The 17th pick is like a top 10 in any other draft. In order to let loose that pick, the return has to be someone with top 6 talent, and young enough be part of the future for the next 6 plus years. The Boston pick would need some lottery protection if Boston stinks next year and in 2025, and I don't see any teams signing up for that.

I have a hunch Leo Carlson falls in this draft. He is billed as a center, but he really is a LW.

I had Kasper picked as a future Red Wing around November before he was drafted. I'd been kinda watching him for a bit (I was in Europe for work and had nothing to do). Trust me when I say I straight up knew he was coming to Detroit. If Larkin were a couple years younger and a little better offensively, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Larkin is a top 20 center in the league, but for him to be fully effective, he would be better as the defensively deployed elite 1b. I see Kasper as like the 35th best center...of course he has the potential for top 10. Fantilli's floor is top 10, and he has a bit of toughness to go with it.

I get that. But you do have Mazur on his way, and can always trade for more quality tough guys. At some point, you are going to have a nasty D with Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder. Throw in Mazur, Soderblom (who will learn to be tougher) and Rasmussen.
Thing is, we all love gritty good forwards, and every team needs a few. Detroit can cover that easier than a 1C for the next decade. If you have a back with terrifying giants, teams will be a little less likely to take liberties with your own guys.

I love Kasper, but I'd add Kasper to the trade to get Fantilli. Kasper has a huge upside and very unique style; he could be a 1C, but it will take time. Fantilli will be a 1C easily in 3 years time, if not sooner.
Detroit can find their future long term 3C at 17 in the draft, or sign let Copp do it. Trade up a few more picks/assets to get Pelikka and the team is set to ascend for a few years.

I'll be honest, if it wasn't all the garbage packed with JT, I'd consider it. I'd put lottery protection on the Boston pick if it falls to a 2025 pick (ie, Bruins get top 10 pick next year after the cap related exodus of talent). I'd be fine with a 1st and second for 2 years of JT at 8 million.
Of course, no way Tavares waives his NMC for Detroit.
Having Tavares play 1A/1B with Copp, Kasper, Rasmussen all options in the top 6 or 3C? Yeah, that helps a ton.

I don’t like Mittlestadt as a Target, since we already have Dube. Best would be to Trade Tanev to TOR for either a 1st + Timmins or Lafferty OR a couple 2nds and both Timmins and Lafferty and try to get Coronato’s Harvard Teammate Abruzzese at the same time, although he’d likely be most useful/helpful if Coronato & he both started next season on the Wranglers
Only BUF forward targets of interest to me are Leyton Krebs and Victor Olofsson 50% retained
Otherwise I’m on board to move Old Man Tanev before he falls apart and/or we can’t get anything if value in return for him</div></div>
Holy moly, how do you come up with these values? Tanev is not worth that. A 1st for a 33 year old rental of a good but not elite player? Defensively, sure probably. But non point producing D just get lower value. Doesn't matter if they are elite at creating scoring opportunities. Jake Walman will be like that next season.

McIsaac is ready for bottom 4. He plays LD and is solid overall. He'd have been called up this year but Detroit has the best LD talent pool in the NHL. In any case, Detroit wouldn't take on Petersen (nor will anyone) without a significant return. Sounds like the Kings are stuck with him.
