Avs lack RHD? Are you crazy. They have 2 Top 4 RHD in Johnson and Barrie, they have Cole and Zads who are lefties but can play the Right side, and they have 2 talented prospects in Timmins and Meloche who are Righies that will be be making their pro debuts, as well as Makar who is a Righty that will be signing at the end of his NCAA season to join the avs.
If anything Avs have too many RHS Dmen in the mix right now. You dont burn high assets for a rental to play 3rd pairing and that blocks your young Dmen. Its a bad trade for the avs today and for the future, it solves nothing

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>The only thing I'd question here is Kamenev. He's a big wild card for me, because we only got to see him for ~2 minutes last season. That's the bigger reason why I had Kerfoot up on the 2nd line. Otherwise, I think this is another likely lineup. I have a feeling the 2-4 lines will get shuffled a lot, besides Nieto-Soderberg staying together.</div></div>
Kam is the ultimate wildcard, have no idea where he will carve out his spot but I would like to see him on the Wing first. He could be 4C or 2W...who knows
I know that the Soderberg Nieto Calvert thing will happen one time, but I would like to see Berg with a little better winger, he isnt utilized enough with offensive players. Him and Kerfoot could be an interesting combo

Calvert-Kamenev-Compher
Nieto-Soderberg-Bourque
Zadorov-Johnson
Cole-Barrie
Girard-Nemeth
Scratches/Fringe Players:
D - Barberio, Meloche, Timmins, Lindholm
F - Wilson, Toninato, O'Connor, Greer
I'm not sure how the D pairings will actually go. I don't like dropping Girard to the 3rd pair, but I don't know if I would pair him with Barrie either.</div></div>
This is very similar to how I believe the lineup will look. Although I think they trust Soderberg too much to have in on the 4th line, I think he'll play 3C. And I could see Zadorov-Barrie Girard-Johnson as the top 4

I would definitely not want COL to move OTT 1st/Timmins/Jost for Stone. That's an overpayment from COL to me in this scenario. The Stone trade happens as it is (or similar prospects) depending on how desperate OTT is to get their 1st back. It may seem better to OTT too if Stone is only taking a 1 year arbitration deal before going UFA. If OTT doesn't want to go for a deal like this, then COL hangs on to the OTT 1st and is happy with a likely top-5 pick.</div></div>
Agreed. Jost+Timmins+Ott 1st is too much of an overpayment. One of them + the 1st maybe.

Zadorov or Zaitsev? And for how much.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Thank you guys!!!! I felt like we were all shouting over each other in the other thread, and nobody even saw each other's questions. Thanks so much for answering! You, too, <a href="/users/coga16" target="_blank">@coga16</a> !
Would a more two-way defenseman like recent first-round pick Lucas Johansen who just had a decent rookie year in the AHL help? Would a purely defensive defenseman prospect like Jonas Siegenthaler help?
As for chemistry with the Caps' franchise defenseman, I actually think that a Russian speaker like Zadorov could play really well with Orlov.
And I know that having Zadorov around is fun to show off to Buffalo, who aren't quite as satisfied with O'Reilly at the moment. But in the real NHL, I see COlorado as a team finishing up its rebuild and trying to add more talent long term, so it can keep making the playoffs and keep improving its long term outlook at the same time. I get that Kempny is old and somewhat unproven, but Zadorov, as good as his defense and hits are from last year, was a sieve before last year. So it is a little bit of a gamble, which player the Caps are getting. But I think the Caps are in a better position to gamble on an enigmatic Russian speaking player, wince they have three dependable Russian guys to help him navigate in an English speaking country, than the 'Lanche are right now.
So, with the understanding that Zadorov just had an awesome year on all fronts, I really appreciate you both taking the time to explain that an offer would not only have to match his value, but include one of Johansen or Siegenthaler, to get Colorado to the table. I'm still interested. What else ya need?</div></div>
Honestly they probably are good and wouldn't move him unless they get a clear cut upgrade over him at the same age and cost controlled certainty. Avs are finally going in the right direction and wouldn't be selling off guys they know fit and work on the team on the chance it might be a lateral move.
They want to win as well and arent in the business of selling off young assets at this time. Its slowly coming together so they wont be taking risks in moving a guy like Zads at this moment unless they know for certain they got the better player that checks all those boxes for them
Avs have a lot of russians in him, Varly, Kamenev, and recently have brought over their draft picks in Mironov, Boikov, Shvyryov. Have Smironov Shmakov Kovalenko Zhuravlyov from the lastest drafts. Their head of scouting said once you have one russian you can get 2, once you have 2 you can get 3, once you have 3 then you open youselfs up to bringing guys over.
So the same with your chemistry comment. Zads brings value with how they have been tapping into the russian pipeline the past 2 drafts and guys are coming over bc of it.

I asked you that three times in the last thread, and you just kept posting diatribes of vitriol against Michal Kempny, who was no longer on the table.
I apologize for describing your behavior.</div></div>
You didnt ask me anything so dont lie, I was having a conversation with someone else. Zads isnt untouchable but its a known commodity to the Avs blue line, brings some offense, has a nice base line of what he can do after 200 nhl games, and bring a big time physical edge.
Djoos had a nice rookie season but he got 14 points after some heavy heavy offensive zone starts. Zads plays a different game, used in a defensive role and still out produced Djoos. than him so on a team with already Barrie, Girard and Makar coming up, they dont need more offensive minded dmen. They are happy with the guy they have and arent in the business of selling off assets like this is some sort of game of NHL18 .
Ask yourself what are you offering to the Avs that they need, bc offering them something they already have doesnt temp teams. Christian Djoos is a nice player but he doesnt move the needle of why they would move a guy like Zads who they have spent time and assets to develop

EK 3-team with TOR/OTT
It's nothing against Tyson Barrie, but I doubt the Leafs would be interested. Yes, they'd need to make up for his missing offense, but the Leafs plan seems to be keeping Nylander, re-signing him and moving out Gardiner for some stable defense-first, or rather, a more all-rounded defenseman. If there was a defenseman the Leafs would be interested, it would probably be Connor Timmins. He's a RHD and plays a much more two-way game than either Gardiner or Barrie. Not sure what the cost would be there, certainly not Nylander.

Replacing Grubauer and seriously upgrading the offense.
My feeling is to stop looking at someone who's scored "more goals" in their career...because Duclair got different minutes with ARI, and that's not relevant to the Caps situation with Vrana. Keep V up and let him develop as he has...don't stunt his growth just because he's waiver exempt. That won't matter to BMac now that there's zero Cup pressure...
Copley is the backup...unless a mid-year trade needs to be made. The Caps said this.
Vrana is an NHL player, with a very high ceiling to go. The Cap said this. Top 6 is the top 6....not a worry on Wilson either, he earned his role ad will sign soon.
Top 4 defense is set...with a veteran and some developing guys to all get mins on the bottom pairing. The Caps said this.
There is ZERO need for a Yakupov, a Duclair, a DeMelo, or even Lehner (especially at $2M). BMac has done rather well with his moves...the Caps will contend so long as they are healthy and they have a stellar pipeline in Gersich, Stephenson, Boyd, AJF, etc on offense, and good developing D depth with Djoos, Bowey, Johansen, Siegenthaler, Greisser, Hobbs...and obviously in net w/ Samsonov.
That's SO much developing talent that they'll be ok.
The Caps will be ok. No pressure...none.

Sens 100% match that offsheet, I think you have to go up to 5 years x 8m to make them really think about if they can afford it or not
and hes not an on average point per game winger, he has 249 points in 307 career games, just last year he had a heck of an over ppg pace. Doing it once doesnt make it the average but i Get what you are trying to get at here

I like these moves for COL, but I don't know if they would be able to persuade Tavares/Carlson. I don't really feel the big need to push for Carlson though, with Johnson/Barrie/Timmins/Makar on the right side. But if signing Carlson means you flip Barrie for other needs (wingers, LHD, goalies), then I'm onboard.</div></div>
Timmins can come up next year to replace Barrie. Flip him for (see above). When Makar is ready 2-3 years from now trade Johnson to Seattle for player protection in the expansion. The Right side is solid for the next decade almost.

2018-19: Two Possible Blockbusters
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>I agree that Ottawa is going to be short on stud players - they'll lose 2/4 of top producers, and the team attitude will likely be terrible. That being said, look at Vegas this year. That team supposedly didn't have much scoring depth and they went way further than they should've. It's not a pure apples to apples comparison, but I'm saying that you're not guaranteed to get the pick. I think Ottawa could easily find a way to be in the 5-10 worst teams, instead of in the 1-3 worst.
As far as Karlsson's contract - if I were Sakic, I wouldn't trade for Karlsson unless there was already a verbal deal in place. And if the price is too high and you're mortgaging your future, then be satisfied with holding the pick.</div></div>
Fair enough. I would argue that the 4th overall pick this year could be of more use for Colorado than Karlsson. He's going to be an Albatros, him Doughty and Tavares are pretty much the last of the star players signing bridge deals pattern. It doesn't work, Anaheim and Chicago found that out and soon anyone who signs these 3 to massive contracts will learn the same. Players decline in their 30's, its just a fact of life.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Ultimate_Pielord</b></div><div>I like the O'Reilly trade, but the construction of this lineup is really iffy.
1. O'Reilly should be driving his own line as a 1B Centre, not flying wingman to MacKinnon. Rantanen can do that just fine.
2. Rantanen should be the 1RW. He had 70 points last year!
3. Barrie is COL's best dman, and has been for ages. He should be 1RD.
4. Emelin is a 2LD at best. Get him off that top pairing. Zadorov can do that job with Barrie as 1RD generally, or you can try to swing a trade for Klefbom (Rantanen could be a good asset to move for that).
5. You probably have too much cap space tied up in your backup. Bernier might well be worth it, but honestly, you could probably get Mrazek for cheaper than that, simultaneously giving yourself a strong backup and freeing up cap space to both swing a Klefbom trade and to acquire Austin Czarnik as a 3RW.</div></div>
1. Agree, though no way he returns to Colorado.
2. 84 points.
3. You're having a giraffe. Barrie isn't even the top 50 D in the league. He's a winger who plays from the point. To be a D you have to first know how to play a thing called defence. It's pretty crucial to the role.
4. Agree Emelin isn't good enough for 1D, but neither is Barrie. Have you ever watched the Avs? Rantanen you do not move for love nor money, your opinion of Rantanen & Barrie's abilities and value should be reversed.
5. Bernier is worth that money.
Plus, I'd try and re-sign Comeau but no way he is even close to worth that money. Andrighetto should fetch more in a trade.
EDIT: That's also too much for O'Reilly who really doesn't fit the Avs needs. The Avs need help on the wings. If you use Sam Girard in a trade a more logical partner would probably be the Habs. Drouin for Girard plus. Girard is a francophone who'd probably fit nicely alongside Weber. Drouin could be re-united with MacKinnon. Both teams win.
