Tkachuk for Laf
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYRFan92360244</b></div><div>I know what I am giving up, but also know what I am getting back. And I am trying to find deals that fit Dolan's mandate for Drury, which is (a) more toughness, grit and fewer skilled guys and (b) more urgncy to win now as opposed to building slowly over time.
It is more like this:
Option 1: You have $2 today. It has 1-in-4 chance that it turns into $15 in the future. 1-in-4 chance it becomes $9, 1-in-4 chance of $6. And 1-in-4 chance of staying at $2.
Option 2: You could have $8 today, which has 1-in-3 chance to be $10 in the future, 1-in-3 chance in stays at $8 and 1-in-3 chance it slips to $6.
Both have present value of $8.</div></div>
Fair enough, I personally think that would be
A) An overreaction to the last few games, trading a potential superstar for a chance to get "tougher"
B) A short-sighted perspective to make that move

Tkachuk for Laf
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>So was Yak he was a 1st overall and call Laf $10 in the future and MT $5 now would lead you to believe he’s 2x the player when maybe he’s $6-$7in the future.(if everything goes right) Unless you think Laf is a 90-100 point guy</div></div>
I had a feeling you were gonna bring up Yakapov. lol
The difference an elite player can make above an average 1st line player is enormous which is why I used the 5 to 10 analogy.
You can debate the exact value.
Listen, I hear your point, but taking the "proven" player in a situation like this is a formula for missing out on a top player.
Here is an example I'll never forget that is of course unique but offers some similarities...
I once debated with someone who thought the Leafs should trade Matthews to avoid having to pay him huge $ after his ELC.
The mock trade suggested was: OEL, Domi, Strome, 1st rounder for Matthews.
At the time, OEL was pretty dominant, Domi was young and had a similar (just similar, relax) offerings as Tkachuk with a blend of skill and snarl, Strome was a future top line centre.
Looking at the trade now it looks ridiculous, but at the time there was huge debate saying the Leafs would have to consider...
I apologize for the long story, but its an example of people being short sighted with young players. Matthews was good, but he wasn't point per game, people questioned his health, etc...

He is the proven 1st overall pick... The ceiling difference is massive.
Its not 4 quarters or a dollar. Its more like "You can have $5 now or if you wait you can have $10."
The trade would be a massive L for NYR in 5 years

Canucks 2021-22 Starting Lineup Projection
The Hughes and Pete contracts could be tough. The players have a lot of leverage in my opinion. Those bridge deals would be wins for the Nucks.
Hughes camp can use Chabot, Ekblad as comparables on a long term deal. (about 10% of the cap)
EP camp can land somewhere between Aho and Eichel. (10.5-13%)
Obviously it would be scaled down for a bridge, but definitely some solid comparables for those guys.
Pete might accept. Hughes will want more for 4 years IMO

Targets for next years back up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan416</b></div><div>For starters Kerfoot is not a cap dump IMO. He will most likely be selected by Seattle so that gives you the cap space you want. As for goalie options I would be surprised to see Dubas give a 3rd rounder away to not resign Rittich. Sign him to a 1 year deal. But Remier could be a nice option too, Driedger, and Forsberg.</div></div>
Yeah, maybe. Was Johnsson a cap dump? Its a similar situation.
Personally I'd be surprised if Seattle took Kerfoot. I would take Dermott or Holl if I was them.
I guess I'd be ok with Rittich if he signed a 1 year deal on the cheap.
I'd just be concerned about wasting the team we have if ou goaltending isn't good enough. If we have full faith in Campbell then I guess its fine, but I would personally like to see a highger quality back up option if Campbell isn't up to the task.
Its not just about being good enough.. Its about being amongst the best in the league so we can win a cup. Campbell has been amazing this year and if he can keep this going for the long term we are in great shape

I think these are some attractive options for a 1B goalie tbh..
Desmith or one of Dallas' goalies seem like really good options imo

High end talent is meh, but the depth is probably best in the league.

I love Hyman but 5M/season is too much with that term. I don't think his game will age well in the back half of that contract.</div></div>
How do you feel about Gallagher and Coyle contracts?
They are pretty much the comparables.
Gallagher at 6.5x6
Coyle at 5.25x6
I could see Hyman getting 5x5, but anything under 5mill and its gonna be 6 years for sure

It also just simply doesn't always work like that. As much as we would like to believe that. Sometimes guys can thrive on crap teams and not be able to step their game up on the bigger stage. Thats why I am suggesting a shorter term

Yeah maybe, but he has never done it before.
He might get 5x5, but that is a big risk on a guy that has never played more than 37 games in a year.
Again, I think its more likely he gets a shorter term "prove it" deal around 4m x 2. We'll see.

Also very doubtful Ulmark would be less then 5 sooo I just dissagree on that not to mention with andersons rough season and him coming back healthy here with campbell playing very well in his absense I believe Freddy will get 3.5 or 4, From the leafs for at least 2 or years also I believe Hyman already has a deal made with dubas for 2-3m MAX, and 3-5 year term, Hymans dubas's guy and they will use all tools available to beat the seatle draft if they do have a deal made and wait till then they will get him cheaper and hes protected with out having to be from seatle look at Downtown sports on youtube guy explains in some very good detail. So yeaaa..... lmfao</div></div>
If Dubas can get more for Kerfoot I'd be thrilled. Kerfoot is a good player, but his cap hit is what is harder to move.
There is no way Hyman signs for 3million though. Thats insane. He is a 5 million dollar player.

You think? To me he hasn't proven he is worth a long term deal especially with his injury trouble and flat cap.
I think he takes a Binnington-like bridge with a team like Toronto to show he can be a starting goalie on an actual good team.

That works too, but I think in the playoffs you go with your best lines. Hyman-Matthews-Marner is the best line you can make.
I don't mind him on the JT line, but I didn't see the same chemistry there.
My overall point though is that I think Hyman needs to be in the top 6. This idea of him being a 3rd line darling is silly to me as he is our best winger behind Mitch and Willy. Put him in the top 6 for sure
