<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jbarre6</b></div><div>I like the ideas. Ideally you want Minny to retain some salary and I would shuffle the D pairs and have Brodin play his off side not antipin. Overall makes sense and would be a good offseason</div></div>
Even if they don't I don't see it being a big deal, we have enough money to re-sign Eichel, Reinhart, and Kane should we choose to keep him. I guess even retaining 1M couldn't hurt.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>Theirs no reason to believe any team will take a 3rd round flier on Ennis</div></div>
Doesn't have to be a 3rd rounder, I'd take just about anything. Maybe put a condition on it that if he scores 20+ or plays X amount of games the pick becomes a higher one.

Brodin/Nino
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jdfitz77</b></div><div>I agree with that guy ^ ^ ^
Plekanec? Ugh... no freaking thank you
Is he even better than Girgensons at this point?
We'd get a 2nd also, but I'd rather just keep Girgs bc I think both he & Ennis can bounce back under a new coach
If we did wanna bring in another Center, I like your Bonino idea if he'd come here. Probably not though.
Maybe try to sign someone like Hanzal or Boyle to an overpayment of a 1year deal. If we are in the playoffs, great. And if not, they can be moved to a contender for a pretty decent return at the deadline
I like the guys we're getting from Minny,
but I think u gave up too much
8th overall should be enough for Brodin
And Reinhart is worth more than Niederreiter
What I'd really like to do there, is make that deal while keeping Reinhart. Leave all the other pieces u gave up...
but take Pominville off their hands to ease their Cap & expansion issues
So basically...
8th overall for Brodin, that definitely works imo
Then for Niederreiter, we take Pommer's contract, and we give them Fasching & Nelson, and instead of the 4th we give them back their own 2nd round pick
That would be freaking great if they'd go for it
Then our lineup would look like:
Ennis-Eichel-Okposo... Ennis gets a shot to produce
**** -O'Reilly-Pominville... can score a bit & defend
Kane-Reinhart-Niederreiter... matchup nightmare
For LW on the O'Reilly line, let the young guys fight it out
Foligno, Girgensons, Larsson, Bailey, Baptiste, Rodrigues
Then the rest fight it out for 4th line duty
Also, if Ennis isn't cutting it with Jack, one of them can get their chance with him
Defense also looks better...
Brodin-Risto
McCabe-Antipin
Guhle-Bogo
Falk
And we still have picks & decent young forward prospects that we can try & move for another defenseman of possible as well</div></div>
At first I thought I might be giving up too much too but here's how I look at it. Reinhart for Brodin, then 8th, Fasching, and Nelson for Nino. I think Sam does have a lot of value but I think Nino still has slightly more. Sam had a down year and did not show the same things he showed in his first year. I also think he's more effective at center, and I'd rather move him for assets than bury him on the third line. Nino is a proven goal scorer, having scored 20+ each of the last three years, all while continuing to raise his assists as well and become a more complete player. His possession numbers are also much better than Sam's.
Fasching could grow into a middle 6 role on the offense, but we're stocked at RW and I feel he is the most expendable. He fits that western conference style, and if we want speed then Nylander, Bailey, and Baptiste should be our choices. Nelson could be a good depth guy and maybe grow into like a 4-5 role, but it gives them something to throw back into the pipeline in the loss of Brodin and MAYBE someone else should they make other moves.
The 8th overall pick is what seals the deal I think, and I don't mind giving it up. Weaker draft, and we have our core pieces in place. It gives them another controllable asset for years to come, or ammunition to make another trade. Maybe it is a little overpayment, but, yeah they might lose Brodin for nothing, but we wouldn't be the only team calling. And they're not just going to give away Nino. We're going to have to compete with offers from other teams and I think someone's gonna pay a little too much regardless. I'm happy to take that challenge with this package.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FrodoBeggins</b></div><div>Alex Nylander + Sam Reinhart for Nino Niderrieter+Jonas Brodin</div></div>
Pass on that one.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jbarre6</b></div><div>Plekanec is a better player right now than Girgensons. He can take away 25% of ROR draws in the DZone so ROR can spend more time scoring. It's veteran depth that will improve our team right now and provide long term assets. Win win.</div></div>
Exactly my thought process. I like Girgensons, and I think he could have a bounce back year, but at least Plekanec is a known quantity. Sure he's older but I think he fits that 3rd line center role perfectly, and still has a little more playmaking ability than Girgensons does. Evan showed that he could handle 4th line duties at the end of last year, looking much more comfortable in the NHL than he did in the AHL and I think it's fair he gets a shot to stick with the club. Larsson can also play center or we can sign a depth guy still such as Boyle to fill that fourth line role. The 2nd round pick can be packaged at the deadline to acquire more pieces if we're making a run, or you flip Plekanec for additional picks and try and get some of that organizational depth back that Murray dealt away.

Playoffs
Gonna take a ton more than that to get Orlov, who they probably wouldn't trade anyways. RFA, solid stats, good possession numbers, etc. Not likely giving him up, never in a million years for Fasching and a 2nd.
Still don't see the point in buying out Moulson this year. Bury him in the AHL if you have to, but we have the cap space to just keep him and if we need to we can buy him out next year. That way he's only on the cap for 2 years instead of 4.
Vanek not an ideal fit either, third line winger at best these days. Still a bit too slow, need to add speed up front, especially to keep up with Jack and Sam. MAYBE he fits next to ROR and Okposo, but I still don't really care to bring him back here. Don't think he signs that low either, 48 points in 68 games and he's not taking a pay cut.

Yeah I thought I might have to add a little more, even with retaining money on Ennis. Not a big deal though, think a deal could get done.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Hawks might do that deal just to get rid of some cap. Maybe you don't even have to give them Bailey (who I like)</div></div>
I like Bailey too, but I think the Hawks still need to get something back if they're going to expose Girgensons and could lose him after dealing for him. I don't think just a 3rd on top of it enough to entice them. In my eyes TVR > Girgensons AND Bailey. Bailey hasn't quite shown that scoring touch in the NHL that he had in the minors, but I think he could blossom in that Chicago system.

Don't think any of those trades happen, not there in value. Fowler will take more than just Sam, Ennis DEFINITELY isn't getting you Dumba. I'm not sure of Eberle's value but I can't imagine swapping him for a couple picks and Girgensons.
Plus with all of this, how are you re-signing anybody in the off season? You'd have maybe 12M in cap to sign Dumba, Fowler, Eichel, and Kane.

PIT/CHI
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jack_Eichel</b></div><div>or we can wait until after the expansion draft for this trade so girg larrson and foligno could be protected</div></div>
Those players can be replaced. Pittsburgh would need the deal to happen before the draft so they don't lose Schultz/Maatta for nothing. If losing one of those three players means keeping Ullmark too then that means we end up with a top 4 defenseman and our young goalie with potential.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlacknGold4life</b></div><div>I think the value is right for Justin Schultz since you can lock him up long term. But he might not want to sign long term if he is worried this will be like the Oilers team he was one (which I do not believe). I think after all those years of losing in EDM he found a place he is comfortable in PGH and will be signing a 4-7 year deal this offseason for decent AAV. I think he is more valuable to Pens than the pick in a not deep draft. If Letang goes down you shave Schultz otherwise you have 2 top end RHS d-man in your top 4.
But good job on the value. I like it.</div></div>
Yeah it's more of a dream, they'd probably move on from Maatta first. Schultz has been their best defenseman.

Fleury/TVR/Brodie/No FA's
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rangersandislesfan</b></div><div>In my opinion not enough for Brodie or Fleury.</div></div>
I think it's enough. Better than losing him for nothing, not many teams taking on that cap hit.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ashleyschaeffer</b></div><div>yeah, i don't think calgary gets off of brodie for that but i think we could get something for lehner (sam bennett and a 2018 2nd?) from them. fleury can maybe be had for that price. not a lot of up an coming teams are going to want to take that cap hit. we can. add in deslauriers to that chicago trade. they need two forwards to meet exposure requirements and if they protect everyone they want, they would have only tootoo who meets requirements. then you can maybe entice vegas to take ennis if they can't get at lehner or ullmark.</div></div>
Absolutely no interest in Bennett. We've don't need another center to throw on the wing, we need a LHD. Maybe that's not enough, but the foundation is there and I think it could work. Could find something to throw at Chicago.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kempjl01</b></div><div>I like Fleury and all but we are going to be in cap hell in one or two years so why tie the team up in a 5,000,000 + 32 will be 33 year old goalie?</div></div>
The way this team is set up, we have about 22M in cap space 2018-2019 if the cap stayed at 73M. Plenty of money to re-sign Kane, Eichel, Reinhart, TVR, etc. Then the following year Fleury and Kruger both come off and the buyout hits from Ennis and Moulson decrease dramatically. Gives us another almost 10M in cap space, enough to sign McCabe and whatever other small pieces we need. Then Bogo comes off that following year when things are starting to get a little tight but by then Guhle should be more than ready, we should have some other young prospects ready to come in and fill in the holes at a low cost.
Trading for Fleury gives us a goalie for now that will help us compete, and will be gone by the time UIlmark/Petersen are ready to have a go at full time duty.

NSH trade // return to playoffs

If they're getting an additional 2nd or 3rd round pick in 2017 (higher in the round), I don't see why they wouldn't have interest. Ennis and Moulson I understand the lack of interest, but Bogosian is serviceable, young, and yeah the cap hit sucks but he's still a top 4 defender on a new team. It's not like they don't have the cap space.
Who else on the Sabres would they be interested in? Our top players are exempt for the most part, so we're protecting the role players like Larsson, Foligno, etc. Ullmark would be the only one I could see them having real interest in, but there are plenty of other young goalies that I'm sure will be available if they want to split vet/young (Korpisalo/Subban?).
I think it's reasonable to think that you could pay Vegas a 2nd or 3rd to take Bogo, at worst you retain some of his salary.

I think the Weber deal is fair, he made 1.5 this year and played solid over the season and is on a team going to the conference finals, he'll get some kind of raise.
I have the forwards grouped like that because I think it plays best to each of their strengths. You don't always need your best players paired together, spread the offense around. I think Baptiste is ready to take the next step and compliments that line perfectly.
Even if Nylander doesn't make the cut, then Kane can slide up a line and I liked the way Carrier played with O'Reilly this past year so he can plug in there. We have an abundance of forwards on the cusp of making this team and a lack of defenders. Trading from areas of strength, I think Ellis is more valuable than Reinhart on this team. Sam also is better suited as a center and I think ROR stays in the middle so Sam isn't going to crack the top 6 outside of injury and can play his best hockey on that Nashville team. You wouldn't trade a winger (which we have plenty of) for a very good, if not great, d-man on one of the league's best contracts? Just because we lost and got a top pick doesn't mean they can't be traded.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>elltrain22</b></div><div>Not to shabby! Much better def pairings!! Colin Wilson isn't my ideal top 6 forward, but if he's skating with ROR & Kane, he might be a 45 + point guy. Only thing I don't like is Gorges still on the team. I'd bring up Guehle and play him game 1, and buyout Gorges to conserve for cap room in 2018, which we'll need for Jack's long term extension/etc. Overall though, I like it!!</div></div>
Wilson may not be ideal, but as you said, he could be productive on that line. Solid defensive line with some scoring punch in Kane. Could swap Wilson and Baptiste, but I like Baptiste on that third line to add some speed, whereas Kane has speed on the second with O'Reilly and Wilson not being toooo far behind.
Gorges is there simply as depth. Sure you could buy him out, but his contract is up after this year so why not let it ride out and be clear the entire 3.9M next year rather than tack on an additional 1.3M to your cap hit? Someone goes down, then the bottom guys slide up and Gorges fills in on the bottom pairing, period. Ideally never higher than that imo.
As far as Guhle, this lets him play top minutes in the AHL rather than bottom pair minutes/being a healthy scratch up in the big leagues. I really like the idea of letting d-men play a year in the AHL, and I think it did wonders for Ristolainen's development and could do the same for Guhle.

Definitely not getting McCabe for that package. Buffalo's defense is bad enough as it is, trading one of their better and younger defenders, not to mention someone who will still be an RFA when their contract is up, for someone older with under 30 NHL games played does not help them in the slightest. Kruger doesn't add enough for that to even be close to worth it for Buffalo.

May be true, but you never know with the trade market. Clears up a good amount of cap space and they've got plenty of good young d men to bring up.
Figure everyone thought Taylor Hall was going to bring a significant return and they ended up with Larsson. Maybe Fowler more realistic as a one for one.
