I think a 2nd evens the value a bit, but I think Toronto would need another pick, leaning towards a 1st, with one dropping to a later pick if Forsberg doesn’t resign.

Could only see this happening if Tkachuk requests a trade (unlikely considering his current deployment) which would lower his trade value and actually make Calgary want to move him. Otherwise I don’t see Calgary having incentive to move him without a decent overpay and this is a slight underpay

Buffalo gladly accepts, especially considering they could move both pieces if they wanted to for more than they’ll get for Eichel.
With that said, Jets easily decline

I don’t disagree with what they are now, and maybe Butcher is what he is, but Bjork hasn’t been in the league long and still could improve. Even if he doesn’t though, they carry far more value than the two pieces coming the other way.
But either way it’s a terrible trade for Buffalo, this is what I’d consider deweaponizing your cap space

I think Nashville would be willing to trade Johansen for Eakin straight up just for the cap relief and then they don’t have to part with players with a bit of upside like Bjork or Butcher for two AHLers

If Calgary had the cap space to resign Rielly then this would be a steal for them. Only reason they wouldn’t do this is bc they have to resign Tkachuk, Gaudreau, and Mangiapane

Don’t mind the value. They’d likely have to involve a third team that Johnson would be willing to go to considering his NMC. Colorado I’m sure would also be pushing to swap Burakowvsky for Kadri, but if they did then I think Colorado would do it if the 1st had conditions connected to Eichels health

Don’t know that NY would be keen on getting rid of Lundkvist or that they’d be looking to add Fischer, they have a fair amount of forward depth as it is. Makes sense that Arizona would be all over Kravtsov but I think they’d only take on Kessel if he had some retained, otherwise their handcuffed if they want to sure up their bottom 4

I like the value, but NY would have to clear out a little more cap space ($2-3m) before next year to make Zibanejads new contract also fit or go with a 20-21 man roster. And that’s not including a new deal for Fox that needs doing. Only way NY can get Eichel is if Buffalo changes their mind and retains or if NY can trade away Troubas $8m

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>So you think Eichel is worth a 2nd, 2 3rds and Krebs? Maybe if those two thirds were firsts….</div></div>
And Hague (as Chabotrrorr said) and yes but that’s worse case scenario too. You’re saying he’s worth that much if you get <20 games out of Eichel and that only happens if there are complications after the surgery and the recovery time is lengthened.
It also means he could be worth:
Krebs + Hague + 2 1sts + 3rd
That seems like a very acceptable return for Buffalo

Eichel brings cup to Vegas
To me the biggest hurdle is Vegas including Krebs and Dadonovs no move clause, Buffalo would probably have to work in a three team deal so he goes to a team he finds acceptable)
From Buffalos side, if Eichel comes back healthy, there’s a very good chance Vegas makes the cup final, although they could always include the condition on a pick of a future year and make it upgrade if they make the cup final in either year.
But most likely you’d have:
Krebs
Hague
3rd (could easily become a 1st)
1st (if they retain half of Smith, which doesn’t hurt them at all, he should get them a 1st)
3rd (Dadonov could be traded for a later pick, or high pick if they retain something, Buffalo knows they can’t contend for the next few years so why wouldn’t they)

Yeah, honestly if Buffalo would make this trade but swapping the 2 1sts for Krebs and a conditional 1st I think Vegas should do it. If they could have Eichel for mid season they’ll be filling their only hole in their lineup

Los Angeles declines before even discussing how slanted towards the Sabres this offer is. You can make a colorable argument that Olofsson is worth Kupari plus the second (personally, I don't think so), but Quick >>> Dell and that doesn't even bring Thomas into the picture.</div></div>
My thoughts were Thomas + Kupari for Olofsson (maybe a pick instead of one of them is more fair). And Quick + 2nd for Dell considering if LA wants to be competitive in 2022-23 they'll need to rid themselves of Quick with Petersen starting his $5m contract.

Buffalo completes the rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>Yeah I don't love it, but if the neck thing disappears I see no reason to bash the trade value. Just looking at the Blues team for the future though, losing Thomas and Neighbours and adding a 10m long-term forward makes it extremely hard to keep the band together. It probably means no more Perron, no more ROR, no more Kyrou, and the guys that would fill around Eichel just got traded away for him. Basically, the window becomes 2 years, and then the team painfully dissolves to nothing but bad immovable contracts and a star center. Would be a fun ride though, and you could trade Eichel in 2 yrs to trigger the rebuild, which would be peak irony.</div></div>
With Eichel, Schenn, Buchnevich, Saad, Faulk, Krug, Parayko, and Binnington locked up long term, I don't expect it would prevent them from locking people up all that much. Likely lose Perron, but at 33 that might end up being better anyways since he could command more than he's worth. O'Reilly, Kyrou, Sundqvist, and Barbashev will need new contracts in 2 years, but the cap is also supposed to rise by $2m.
So $7m left in cap space (including current cap space after the trade) + their current contracts to sign those 4 players. That's enough to resign O'Reilly at $9m, Kyrou at $6m, Sundqvist at $4m, and Barbashev at $3m.

That's on them. They had loads of opportunities before the expansion draft seeing as they were one of the only teams without a goalie worth protecting. They could have gotten any number of quality goalies for dirt cheap.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>When you look at the oilers roster who do they need more tarasenko or kosk? I think it’s more likely smith will need help covering an 82 game season than oilers needing help scoring goals pretty sure that part is already well covered. Could take out broberg and the first oilers still have to decline it has nothing to do with value of assets it’s about what the team needs more currently that’s kosk.</div></div>
I agree Edmonton would need another goalie, but nothing is stopping them from trading for one. They'd save $0.75m in cap space with that trade and could then look for a goalie that's more capable than Koskinen or at least as capable and also cheaper. They could check in on goalies like Kahkonen, Vanacek (imo they should've made a play for either one before the expansion draft), Montembault, Korpisalo, etc. Washington gave up a 2nd to get Vanacek back, clearly they could have paid that.
Smith will be done soon and Koskinen won't cut it. Sooner or later they needed to trade Koskinen and find a better replacement. If they waive Stalock & Archibald, and make the trade I'm proposing then they'll still have $5.03m in cap space to find another goalie and take back salary, and their forwards will now be:
Hyman-McDavid-Puljujarvi
Foegele-Draisaitl-Tarasenko
Perlini-RNH-Yamamoto
Turris-Ryan-Kassian
(Shore, McLeod, Sceviour, Holloway, Marody, Benson, Lavoie)

Eichel to STL Tarasenko to EDM BUF retains half
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>I don't think you read the explanation by the author. BUF is retaining the 50% (can't transfer on a 3 way trade post on CapFriendly). The one thing I actually meant to add to my post was that I didn't think Eichel was a good fit for STL.</div></div>
There would definitely be risk, but it's a small price to pay if Eichel returns to form and if he does, this would give them one of the best teams in the league. In terms of the pay scale, he's signed long term, the deal was made my another team, and he would be the clear best player on the team. STL could use an elite offensive player to get back to contending and they have lots of depth at centre and could afford to move on from one of Thomas, Sundqvist, or Barbashev. Why I think it could be a good fit is because it would be like a Pettersson-Horvat combo; no one denies Eichel is the better player, but this would still clearly be O'Reilly's team.
Tarasenko also wouldn't have a ton of value due to his cap hit, but to a team like Buffalo, he would be a great trade chip to have, because if they retain 50% then he has lots of value.
