Why would the caps do either? Tvr is a good third pairing guy but if you want to clear room for younger guys I guess I could buy that. Why do the caps need a third goalie at 1.8?

Timmins is a 7D on a good team and has had trouble staying healthy and playing consistently - not worth more than a 4/5.
Mantha can probably be dumped for a second and a later pick. I also read that wrong and thought you had a first and a second for him.

You’re overestimating how much Mantha dump and Timmins are worth.

Nikishin is going to be a combination of Lidstrom and Makar and Orr and better than all 3 so canes pass.
In all seriousness he’s pretty highly valued in the org so it would be difficult to pry him away and would need to be a drastic overpay.

There’s a lot of other types of packages. It’s doubtful pesce waives to go to SJS and also doubtful sharks want this type of return. Sure they could try to flip both guys but teams in their position generally get futures or there’s a third team involved.

3 Way Blockbuster Karlsson Trade Between Sharks Hurricanes Predators
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>It's mind-boggling how Erik Karlsson just had a season for the ages with a 100-point season, played in all 82 games last season, won the norris, here you're locking him in for 4 more years at only 6mil (as an elite defenseman he'll likely decline slower than forwards and will decline post 36-37), and yet you define that as 'nothing'. Incredible.
Karlsson at 9.5mil or so has less value and wouldn't warrant Jarvis. That's true. But at 6mil? It's within reason.</div></div>
What are the odds that ek replicates that versus replicating the prior 3-4 injury riddled seasons prior to last year though? It’s a big risk any way you slice it, which is why the valuation is a challenge. He’s definitely worth it if he can stay healthy but that’s massive if and the canes aren’t going to spend extremely premium assets in their eyes to take that risk on. Especially when there’s one other team in on the deal and they can’t come within sniffing distance of anything the canes can offer.

Target 3-Young Players that Need Change- Then Move 26- Then get EK65
Don’t think there’s much incentive for those teams your targeting buy low candidates from. I get they’re not worth a ton for various reasons but can’t tell why ANA would move him for essentially nothing, DAL and Petry likely decline, etc.
Also not much quality value going to ek. I don’t think he’ll get a massive haul but with retention and dumping cap to them so it works for PIT, you’d actually need to give some firsts and or valuable prospects.

Jarvis isn’t going to be included in an EK deal. Why would they need to? What’s PIT offering that comes close to Jarvis and a first? There’s not a massive bidding war for EK so there’s no chance this happens and even if there were I think canes would just bow out and hold onto pesce Jarvis and a first to get ek.

If EK went to Carolina
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Burns has also been very durable and Karlsson an extreme opposite of that. Add in the cap hit discrepancy and Karlsson's full NMC instead of Burns' three team NTC. If I'm Grier, I'd rather risk another season and see if Karlsson can improve his trade value before unloading him on a Burns-like return.</div></div>
Yeah that’s true. Although CAR wasn’t on Burns 3 team list and wasn’t until GMDW called and asked if he’d waive that it even became a thing so I’m not sure that piece of it is too much different to ek NMC.
The risk for Grier is that ek ankle blows up and he’s not moveable for rest of the deal. I guess the question is what’s more important - maximizing return on ek or getting whatever you can to clear the space and make sure his value doesn’t go down?
I’d want to maximize the return this year and to do it I’d eat as much of the contract as possible. Ek at under 6M brings more teams in the fold and gets a bidding war going most likely, even with injury risk. Guess that’s an ownership decision not to eat that much dead cap essentially, which is a fair stance and hard to argue from that standpoint too.

Drop Skjei and a first and put a condition on the second.
Don’t do the Schultz deal - rather have cheaper chatty in that role. Trade Skjei or pesce for top 9 winger instead or futures to get one.

If EK went to Carolina
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>EK at 8m a year won't fetch this big of a package. Not even close.
Also, I don't get why Carolina is going after EK. Keep Pesce and call it a day. Their D core is already amongst the top in the league.
They can just add Dumba or DeAngelo if they want another Dman.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>I can't understand it for the life of me either. Pittsburgh I understand because they need to take a high risk like that to be relevant. But Carolina has the best defense and the most offensively productive defense last year. Why would they bring in such a high risk player?</div></div>
I think it’s the “distressed asset” thing, similar to what they did with Burns. Circumstances are much different as Burns was coming off a rough year and EK just posted an incredible season, but with EKs previous 3-4 seasons before that it puts that risk in place. I think that’s why the canes are ultimately in on EK, because they think they can get him around 7.5-8 for less than he’s worth. And I believe that’s why SJS hasn’t moved him yet, the pens offer probably doesn’t have as much value as they want and they know canes could blow it away if they wanted to so they’re hoping canes will get restless and send a big haul. I really doubt that actually happens tho and I think it’s most likely canes don’t get ek keep pesce and take another run at Vladdy.

Also, we lack the cap to pull this off.</div></div>
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of Pesce to Dallas deals and Harley would be my target over other guys mentioned. He’d be a great Skjei replacement this year since Skjei is going to be wasted playing third pair minutes most likely. Plus Harley will be cost controlled on the left side for years to come. Him Slavin and orlov/Nikishin would be a nice set of left D.
Cap wise could you dump Faksa somewhere? Would that create enough space for a deal like this?

Think it’s a nice deal but I don’t think it solves much for the canes, kind of gives them another option that they already have a few of. Wouldn’t be upset if this trade happened but would also prefer to use these assets plus more to land a bigger fish.

Caniacs can we talk for a minute
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>datools</b></div><div>Would you prefer Joseph over Smith?
I think both are interchangeable in terms of value, just very different styles. Smith had a great 9 games for pens last season, they just didn't have the cap flexibility for him to be up full time. I saw this as adding a cost controlled D but Joseph might be more your likeing. In the same way Petry gives you another cost controlled season at RHD.</div></div>
Nope, not really interested in either of them or the framework of this deal whatsoever, don't think there's much that you'd realistically want to include that would make the Canes think about this proposal. Would also rather still keep Pesce for one year versus Petry for the second year. Morrow will likely need a spot on the right side next year anyways. POJ and Smith don't really have a spot over here as they'd be behind our own prospects in terms of depth chart so we wouldn't value them much.
