In my head I still think Svech starts season later / slowly so having another top 6/9 option is never a bad thing. Especially when injuries inevitably happen over the course of the year. Doesn't have to be bonafide top 6 winger, could be a middle 6 option, maybe even with some positional flexibility i.e. Henrique. Tatar comes to mind too. 3C Backlund wouldn't be terrible if you want to address middle 6 center.

Yeah I’m still pretty iffy on EK in general but I can see both sides of it. I’m inclined to agree that I’d rather use the cap space up front. I’d like to add another top 6 winger as I think KK can be a low end 2C and if you load up wings around him he’d thrive. I thought Vladdy would be a nice addition and I guess still could be, there just aren’t a ton of C options available that I’d want (I like lindholm but weary of giving him the Horvat deal and the rest of guys available like Backlund aren’t really an upgrade in my mind).

I def agree if we get Ek there’s no room for tda. If we don’t get ek there’s def value in tda at a cheap deal. I really like chatty but seems like he’s be odd man out in that scenario unless pesce or Skjei are moved which I don’t think is smart to do unless you have a legit upgrade in the top 4 as part of that overall deal.

I get your point but I also think RBA spreads time more evenly and better than most. Top 4 probably would average 22 min a game ideally to keep everyone fresh through the season. Having Skjei and chatty play 15/16 a game isn’t ideal bc they’re better than that but it’s a nice luxury to have.

I think the PP1 QB is probably the biggest challenge if burns and ek care more about that than winning. Idk if they would but would hope they both just want to win a cup at this stage of their careers. I also was thinking about that this morning and was wondering why they couldn’t both be on PP1?

That’s a pretty good set of PPs and you can interchange the pieces to find the best mixes. I also wouldn’t bring in tda if ek was coming anyways as I think orlov could easily run pp2 if you pair burns and ek on the first unit.

Why are you disputing he’s a 3C? You literally agreed by saying he’s in the 60-70 range for centers which would make him a high end 3C even by your estimation. I think most ppl on here agree that he’s a very good 3C but he’s slightly overpaid for that role which doesn’t make him a bad player but with a flat cap and taking into account Boston’s needs and their own cap situation it doesn’t make any sense.

Eventually burns will prob decrease. Skjei and pesce have been great together for a few years so if they’re still there I expect similar results, whether people think they’re overrate or not. Orlov adds a great element and added depth. Bunting also adds some scoring and pest type play which is arguably needed. Anderson was great in playoffs and was a vezina candidate the year before. Koochie and Raanta have been good when they’ve needed to spell him so not that concerned with goaltending in general with the defensive support in front of them especially.

Still think there’s another move coming at some point this summer. I’d rather it be a top 6/9 add like Vladdy or something else via trade versus swapping EK for pesce. Don’t think they’re done yet tho.

Either way I expect them and devils to have close race during season and I’m expecting canes to take a step forward. I’m biased but also thing the team is absolutely a top 5 contender and if they stay healthy and get hot they’ve got as good a chance as rest of legit contenders.

Lol I get it. I’m actually in Raleigh and have been here most of my life. Originally from overseas though and have hockey in my blood and have always been a huge puck head. Been a canes fan and stm since inception so I’m used to the small market/southern barbs and don’t really let it get me up in arms. Every team and fan base gets it for one reason or another, nobody is immune haha

I think it was a few leafs fans that got really upset about the post and a couple other fan bases made tongue in cheek comments but were nowhere near as upset as you guys. I’m not really sure why these types of things irritate you and some of your louder leafs buddies on here. Of course the dude who posted this is gonna pick the canes to win, they’re a top 5-8 team and any of those teams have a pretty even shot at winning. Typically it comes down to which of those teams gets hot at the right time and stays healthy. Look at Florida last year, they made the run but were beat up by the time they got Vegas and ran out of gas.

Canes got swept and that sucked. Games were close but a sweep is a sweep. They made some strong adds so far and should be in a good position again this year. Just like Avs knights stars leafs devils oilers and a couple others. Idk why this turned into such a pissing match with various teams who’ve come up short in recent and/or longer history. This isn’t surprising though when you look at the folks behind each side.
