Description
Kesler Trade- ANH is not a big market franshise and I see them wanting to shed salary for business purposes. Kesler is owed over 12 million over the next 2 years and I don't see ANH wanting to carry that for cap relief. in this instance, ANH is paying the Isles to take this contract.

Zetterberg Trade- this one is more complex. DET is def willing to take on salaries for futures. I believe JHS is a player Steve Y likes and would be willing to give him playing time in the NHL with quality players. I also believe that Leo is good fit here. when you are rebuilding, you need solid (but cheap) vets who provide a good locker room presence. the tricky part is ladd's contract. it has 3 years left, almost all signing bonus money and he is no longer an NHL capable player. the price here might be low, but I think MVS and JHS are good enough pieces to sweeten the deal enough.

if Johnny Boychuk becomes an LTIR candidate, the isles have enough room to sign hoffman, but I am okay with this roster. at some point they need Bellows or Wahlstrom to step up, so I am okay w leaving a roster spot open for them to compete for

That’s no where close on the Detroit deal. You can keep Ladd and Komarov unless you’re willing to offer us something of value.

Nowhere near getting us to take on Ladds 3 x $5.5M and 2 years of Komarov Ho-Sang is looking like a bust and Vande Sompel and a 3rd isn't enough to take on those horrid contracts. Detroit's not moving Zetterberg and a 4th for that.

Staal only had a single year left. Ladd and Komorov both have multiple years left. Detroit would probably ask for the 2021 first or something around that value.

You don't need Zetterberg or Kesler either. Islanders wouldn't be able to accrue cap space next season which limits their in-season transaction flexibility. Detroit seems perfectly fine letting Zetterbergs 6 million get them to the floor for one more season.

JHS was on waivers so if Yzerman wanted him that was the time to acquire him. Based on his latest interview I’m sure they’d take on Ladd but it would cost.
