Description

Don’t crucify me here. I don’t know a whole lot about either of these guys, so I may be way off. My thinking is both these guys have potential to be top 4 defence men. Kent Hughes said he’d rather prospects over picks, so what better place to look than at guys Gorton drafted. Ben Chiarot is going to get a first round pick at the deadline, there’s no disputing that. Between Fox, Trouba, Schneider, and Lundqvist, the rangers are projected to have four right defencemen that can play top 4 or higher, so I feel it’d make sense for them to trade one of the younger guys (fox isn’t going anywhere and neither is trouba with that contract) for some immediate help on the left side, and who better than a big, mean, defensively responsible top four guy in Chiarot who can come cheap and eat big minutes in the playoffs. Montreal will have to add, and I’m thinking either their second rounder (gonna be in the mid 30’s) or a couple mid round picks should do the trick, but I could be way off on that. What do you guys think Montreal needs to add to get one of Schneider of Lundkvist? As a Habs fan this trade makes a ton of sense, but does it from the rangers perspective?

This is a bad trade for the Rangers all around. Schneider is going nowhere as he is ready and fits into the lineup quite nicely. I personally wouldn’t move Nils unless it was in a deal for a top 6 winger. Chiarot isn’t worth the price tag to me for what it’d cost us. Rather Giordano than Chiarot. Honestly think it’s wasteful because I don’t see us going anywhere even with Chiarot so this deal seems unnecessary to me.

No it doesn’t make sense for the Rangers because a late 1st RD pick (might not even get that) and a solid RHD prospect with Top 4 potential isn’t worth the same. You don’t take a piece and try to add to equalize the value. Toffoli half retained vs Lundkvist + is the only trade that make sense for both team. Now depends what the + is
