Even if EJ waived, why would the Avs do this? Drouin is only $500K cheaper and is a healthy scratch for the Habs.

For the last time: nobody wants to trade for Drouin. The Avs are not gonna trade for Drouin because he played with MacKinnon 10 years ago.

If he doesn't and both teams want to do this they can just waive him Montreal has first option. I however would not do this if I were Colorado.

Why would Colorado do this? Drouin needs MacKinnon. MacKinnon doesn't need Drouin.
