Marner needs to be humbled

This is assuming Muzzin calls it a career. Anaheim is poised to get a good crack at Bedard and with him, Marner and the rest of the young guns could be a dynamic team quickly so long as they either add the right FA defenceman next year or trade for one or see Drysdale and others take big steps. Hopefully find a goalie along the way. Ducks would be a contender in 3 years.

This would change the entire dynamic in TO but perhaps for the best. I think Marner is a leader on the team but he's just so fragile that it rubs off on guys. I think he'll figure it out eventually but it's causing too many problems right now. Muzzin retires we need to make some moves on defence. So we get Fowler who really is a solid solid player that can play either side well. That solidifies the defence and gives Holl a chance to regroup and play where he should which is sparingly on the 3rd pair or 7th defenceman. We'll need him at some point and it's going to just cost too much to get a marginal improvement over him. Fowler is the big add and we end up with better depth than last year.

Yes the offence will take a hit but maybe they force themselves to change their system a little, be smarter with your risks and wait for chances to transition. Score less but give up way less and Matthews will still score a pile of goals. I think it puts a little more pressure on Nylander who will need to step up to fill the void left by Marner. You take a flyer on comtois hoping he just needed a change of scenery and maybe you find just a better style of play.

This for fire Keefe. If Dubas won't, then it has to be him. I feel like that's a mistake but it's going to come to a breaking point.
